WHAT ARE THE IDEAS/IDEOLOGIES OF RIZAL THAT ARE STILL APPLICABLE

TODAY?

Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, commonly known as Jose Rizal, is

the national hero of the Philippines. Due to his great contribution to the independence we

have now, he became a symbol of our country’s struggle for independence. Many believed

that he was a man of ideals, and he lived by his ideals. Jose Rizal’s ideals, according to

Sicat (2019), were a combination and result of enlightenment as a philosophy. Listed below

are the main ideas of enlightenment:

Aside from the main ideas of enlightenment, there were also ideals and principles

that Rizal believed in which also served as his driving force in pursuing independence for our

country. Some of those are:

In his short life of just 35 years, Rizal was able to do so much, not just as a patriot but

also a member of a small community, a traveler, a collector of stories, and even as a ladies’

man. For those who feel like they are just wasting their lives, they should realize that Rizal

did so many things in so little time. As we continue our journey towards life, may we be able

to have a full grasp on who Rizal really is and what his ideals and principles are. May we, the
youth, be conformed in Rizal’s ideals and principles so that in the future, we will be able to

lead our nation and make this country a better place to live in.
