Insulation Expansion Joints (Single Layer Calcium Silicate, Perlite or E-Glass

Fiber)

(i) Insulation expansion joints shall be installed in single layer calcium silicate,
perlite or e-glass fiber systems to compensate for pipe expansion and
shrinkage of the insulation. Expansion joints filler material shall be inserted in
the circumferential joint of the expansion joint. The filler shall be loose E-glass
Fiber preformed felt filling a space 40 mm wide and the thickness of the
insulation. The outer surface or e-glass fiber felt shall be flush with the
insulation.
(ii) In the operating temperature range of 66℃ to 649℃, the maximum distance
between expansion joints shall be as follows:

Pipe expansion joints

(i) Bellows type pipe expansion joints shall be insulated with mineral fiber blanket
or e-glass fiber felt insulation supplied with stainless steel wire mesh on either
side of the insulation.

(ii) Pipe insulation shall be stopped 150mm before the expansion bellows. Mineral
fiber or e-glass fiber insulation shall be installed over the bellow's protective
cover so that it overlaps the adjacent pipe insulation by a minimum of 225mm
on both sides. Its thickness shall be the same as the adjacent pipe insulation.
The longitudinal joint shall be laced tightly with stainless steel wire so that no
gaps exist. The insulation shall be secured in place with stainless steel bands
positioned on either end of the insulated bellows.
