Dynamics of Rigid Bodies 2nd Semester AY 2020-2021 Rectilinear Motion

Activity 1

Name: Score
Section:

1. The motion of a particle is defined by the relation x = 2t3 – 9t2 + 24t -5, where x and t are expressed
in inches and seconds, respectively. Determine (a) when the velocity is zero, (b) the position and
total distance traveled when the acceleration is zero.

2. In a race competition, Car A leads Car B by 70m and both cars are traveling at a constant speed of
150km/hr. At t = 0, the cars accelerate at constant rates. Knowing that when B passes A,
vA =263km/hr and t = 6 s, determine the acceleration of A and B.

3. An elevator is moving upward at a constant speed of 4m/s. A man standing 10m above the top
of the elevator throws a ball upward with a speed of 3m/s. Determine (a) when the ball will hit
the elevator, (b) where the ball will hit the elevator with respect to the location of the man.
