David goes to Belén’s churrería after visiting the gym. He talks to Belén about health and exercise.

They decide to go to the gym together.

Good morning, Belén!

Oh, hi David. It’s good to see you in the churrería again. Please, take a seat. Would you like to
see the menu, or do you already know what you want?

I’d like a hot chocolate and three churros please.

Right away! But didn’t you say yesterday that you’re not eating sugary foods at the moment…?

You’re right, I shouldn’t eat them. I’m on a diet and I’m trying to live more healthily but it’s so
boring! All I’m allowed to eat is lettuce and carrots, it’s rabbit food. So I don’t want to diet
anymore, I want to eat your delicious churros.

Oh dear, well I don’t want to tempt you. A healthy diet is very important you know, and you
shouldn’t eat too much fat or sugar.

Hang on, do you want me to buy the churros or not?

Of course I do David, if you want them. I love cooking food for people to enjoy – that’s why I
opened this churrería! Besides, you told me yesterday that you were doing more exercise.
That’s important for your health, too. How’s it going?

Very well actually. I’ve tried a few different kinds of exercise to get in shape.

Like what?

Well, first I played football with my friends, but I wasn’t very good. Then I did a yoga class, but I
have bad balance and kept falling over! It was very embarrassing. It’s too cold to go running or
cycling, but my friend told me I should join a gym. There are all sorts of machines and
equipment for every type of exercise – you can never get bored there.

That’s great! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. The gym in Villanueva seems to be very popular, a lot of
people go there.

Yes, sometimes it can get crowded at the weekend, and there are too many people. On
Saturday or Sunday, it’s best to go very early in the morning, before everyone wakes up.

It sounds like you’re an expert!

I really enjoy going to the gym. I spoke to a trainer there and she told me all about exercising
different muscle groups and doing cardio on the machines. It’s the best place to go if you want
to get fit. There’s so much variety at the gym, and it’s much more interesting than eating lettuce
and carrots!

I agree with you there. If you want to stay healthy, it sounds like you’d rather go to the gym than
diet.

Absolutely, the best thing is to go with friends and you can motivate each other, it’s a really
social environment. It’s good to be able to push yourself… I’m always exhausted by the end, but
it’s so rewarding.

You’re making me feel guilty now… I definitely don’t do enough exercise. Maybe I should go to
the gym too, to stay healthy.
