FIRST LATIN
CLUB MEETING!
Audrey Lie
Although the first latin club meeting of the year did not have its usual
energy with the buzz and excitement for the Freshmen about to get
sorted or the joy for the upcoming slices of cake, WJCLers all joined the
zoom with warm and smiling faces. The JCL officers quickly introduced
themselves, and a rundown of the entire year for the WJCL was
presented. All the perks of Latin Club like State Convention, Certamen,
and Farnsworth hyped the new JCLers up for an exciting year. Then,
the awaited sorting hat ceremony began. VPs Isabel Buyers and Grace
Shen presented the 8th and 9th graders with their house of either
Valerii, Fabii, Claudii, Cornelii, Aemilii, and Iulii. Check out page 12 for
the current family standings!

fall forum
All the Latin Scholars across Georgia
woke up bright and early to head to the
awaited virtual Fall Forum. WJCLers
excitedly sat on their computers, filled
with excitement for the fun games,

participants of the zoom all felt the Latin

Then came the academic tests!

With the Latin 1s and 2s testing on
subjects of History/Culture, Latin
Language, and Mythology and the
Latin 3s and up testing in the
Pentathlon, everyone used their
intelligence to ace these said tests.
Certamen, the superior quiz bowl,
was still competitive as ever, even
in an online setting.
Congratulations to all Walton
teams! With the intermediate team
receiving 1st place along with the
advanced and novice team
receiving 2nd, all teams performed
extremely well.

A few snapshots of the opening GA Assembly 5

After proving our smartness, it was time for everyone, including
non-certamen players, to get competitive with some fun games!
This year's games included Skribbl, Scavenger Hunts, Mafia, and
the iconic Among us. In my games of Skribbl, all members were
friendly, and there were certainly some interesting words and
drawings alike to guess. Doodles ranged from lemons to William
Shakespeare. In the game of Among us, Latin scholars were
divided into groups of 8 with 2 people being the imposter. It was a
fun game of master trickery and persuasion to either save your
crewmates or fool all others to victory.

pumpkin palooza
On Wednesday October 21st, many high-achieving Latin scholars joined
together on zoom to decorate their own pumpkins! With the choice of
drawing the pumpkin on paper or painting on an actual pumpkin,
WJCLers took it upon themselves to incorporate their Roman knowledge
with spooky festivities. Some painted and drew the JCL logo while others
drew a picture of a Roman man! Latin V Aric Ting specially made a
pumpkin origami! It was a fun way to have Halloween fun while
celebrating the Classics!

Any advice for other certamen players? As president during this abnormal year, how do you
plan on keeping spirits high for everyone in the WJCL?
I'm not a certamen top tier by any means, but Things definitely won't be the same as they were

If you start doing this early on, you can pretty

I would be Quintus, Caecilius's son. He's an overall

the cultures of Greece and Rome.
