Fall Forum

On October 13th, many members of the WJCL participated in the annual Fall Forum hosted at
North Gwinnett High School. The day was filled with excitement for all JCLers. Following the
customary singing of the JCL Creed during the General Assembly, students dispersed to compete
in academia, athletica, and fine arts competitions. Walton as usual had a strong presence in all
categories with many placing in the academic and athletic events. GJCL officers Albert Chen and
Vivi Lu interacted with fellow JCLers and participated in a service project to help the victims of
Hurricane Florence. But best of all, everyone got together, made new friends, caught up with the
old ones, and made lasting memories only to be triumphed by the ones to come!

MEETING

GRAPE EATING

At last, the annual grape
eating contest was finally
here! The intense contest
was called to occur on the
November Latin Club
meeting where Neeraj
awaited to defend his
championship title!
Excitement filled the air as
students filed in to watch
the highly anticipated
contest.
A total of eight brave
mortals partook the

his title but raised the bar
for future participates.
Beware, for Neeraj plans to
return next year to defend
his title for the third year!

Eastside Certamen

On November 17th, the WJCL had a
huge turnout of participants
(partially due to a promised 100 quiz
grade) competing at the annual A triple Walton
Eastside Certamen tournament. We faceoff!

while trying to capture each other’s
body heat. Forty-five minutes later,
we finally boarded for the two hour
bus ride. Everyone was hunched

Anika Park with Eric Chen

Meet Anika Park, our very own National
Editor!
Why did you decide to take latin?
Of course, one of my reasons was the
generic one: my mom thought it’d help
my SAT vocabulary score (little did I
know that they would get rid of the vocab big reason why I was able to step up and
section very soon). But, I’d also heard
from my friend’s older sibling that
Walton Latin club was really something
else, and I’d regret not joining. She was
right.
I was excited to be GJCL 1st VP, but I love
being editor more than anything else. I had
the time of my life being GJCL Editor and
really wanted to keep doing what I did. I
thought about it for a long time and even
conferred with my friends about it. All my
friends were really supportive, and they’re a

What does the WJCL mean to you?

Walton JCL to me is family, a constant,
an inspiration, a home, and so many
other things. I have found my best friends
here, and I’m always meeting new
underclassmen who never cease to
impress me. Whenever I step into this
classroom, I feel a small sense of relief
and comfort. WJCL is the root of much of
my personal growth, and I’m always
learning (not just Latin) from Mr.
Farnsworth and WJCLers around me. I
could go on and on about what WJCL
means to me, but I think it would require
too much paper. 

Why did you choose to become NJCL

editor?
Honestly, I was really hesitant when
deciding whether or not I should run for
the office.

Could you explain what your campaign
for NJCL Editor composed of?
I think everyone has their own way of
campaigning. My idea of campaigning
was to approach few people at a time and
being more personal with them. Some
candidates have amazing charisma
where their mere presence is enough to
turn heads. That definitely wasn’t me, so
I stuck with trying to be genuine! Again,
my friends from Walton helped me SO
MUCH. They also talked to other JCLers
on my behalf and handed out my
campaign materials (flyers, tags, etc.).
They sacrificed much of their precious
convention-time for me, and I couldn’t
be more indebted to them.
Advice to underclassmen?
I’m not sure how qualified I am to give
advice on this because I’m forever an
underclassmen on the inside. Really, my
best advice is to completely forget about
your future and past from time to time.
The present is fleeting, and you’ll regret it
later when you look back to these precious
moments and realize you missed so many
opportunities to have a good time.
Best latin joke?

How has your experience as NJCL editor

been so far?
It’s been great! I sincerely love what I do.
I could sit at home and make
publications all day. My fellow officers
are all amazing as well. Somehow
they’re able to maintain a level of
professionalism in everything they do
even though their sense of humor and
personalities make me smile and laugh
all the time. We met in Fargo, North
Dakota mid-October for our Fall
Planning Meeting (which is why I wasn’t
at Fall Forum :c ), and we had so much
fun. I respect all of them for their
passion and hard work, and I’m excited
to see what we can accomplish this year!
