Strategies for Reading

When you read in English, you don’t always need to understand
every word. One strategy for reading better is to guess the meaning of
new words. For example, use clues such as pictures and titles to help
you work out the meaning.
Another strategy to improve your reading is to set a goal for reading
every day. For example, plan to read two online newspaper articles
every day. Or choose a book and plan to read five pages every day.
When you finish an article or a book, a good strategy is to talk about
the story in your own words. For example, tell a friend or your teacher
about it. You’ll understand the story better by explaining it to someone
else.
