Background

pneumonia in the city caused by a new coronavirus.

▪ On March 11, 2020, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, the managing


director of the World Health Organization, classifies the new
Covid-19 as a pandemic.

▪ The first case of covid-19 in México, was detected on
February 27, 2020. After this record, in the next 64 days,
there was an exponential growth in contagions. The
number rose to 19,224 active cases.
▪ The US National Library of Medicine, has spoken about the
similarity in the number of confirmed cases between
Mexico and China. Mexico has a higher mortality rate.

Repercussions of the
quarantine in Mexico
The quarantine officially began on March 20, 2020.
Some companies and schools stopped their activities a
week before.

We know the economic impact that the pandemic has


caused in México:
• Bankruptcy of local and small businesses.
• Unemployment: the rate reached more than
25% of the total population at the end of last
year, that is approximately 6 million
unemployed people.

Facts
▪ Feeling fear, stress or worried are normal responses when there are a lot of
changes, but if it starts to affect your activities, you have to do something about it.
▪ According to Carmen Fernández, general director of the Youth Integration Centers,
young people have suffered a huge impact during the confinement. “Suicidal risk is
increasing... 43% of suicide cases are of young people between 15 and 29 years
old”.
▪ In Mexico, every 40 seconds, a person commits suicide. 8 out of 10 are men. The
other 2 are women.

How to prevent
There are a lot of things we can do to prevent suicide and
other mental illness, such as:
1. Identify your own, your family or friends symptoms
(feeling down all the time, losing interest, sleeping a
lot, not sleeping, eating a lot, not eating…).
2. Talk about the way you feel with somebody that you
trust or be the one the others can trust.
3. Queretaro’s government has a program that gives
phycologist attention for free. You can find it in

4. UAQ has other program called UAPI ONLINE thar also
offers phycologic help for free. You can find it in
