Criterion B: Developing skills
● demonstrate the acquisition and development of the skills and techniques of
the art form studied
● demonstrate the application of skills and techniques to create, perform and/or
present art.
1. The Idea - What?
Here’s where the artistic statement lies.
● There are different ways to find a good idea regarding to create a piece of art:
Write down crazy stuff!, doodle, sketch things you like and things you don’t
like!
● What is inspiration? Inspiration is NOT going to google and finding and
image you like an then you just copy it!!
● What about references? YES! You can find some good references in the
internet or books and magazines. Gather them and use them when you think
you need to refresh your creativity a little bit!
Artistic references
Sometimes you need a little help from your good fellow artists. So, finding some
good pictures of art that give you chills or make a deep emotion grow in your soul
is a good idea.

When you find artwork or an artist, you really like to find all the important
information about it. Essential data or details on techniques and materials are
always good to have.
2. Sketching - How???
● Do you already have some good ideas? Good! Now is time to put them on
paper.
● Sketching is NOT only drawing your idea once. Is also, exploring different
ways to express the same idea. Explore the composition (remember the
principles of design?)
● So, take these things into account: Composition, Color, Value, Light and
Dark…
● Is your sketch effectively communicating your artistic statement?

2. Sketching: Composition, Color, Value among others…!
3. Technique, Medium and support
4. Note: Every technique has different steps, so be careful and don’t get
confused!!
