Windshield Wiper
General
The BK117 C-2 is equipped with a single blade wiper system. The
windshield wiper removes water or snow from the windshields to
provide sufficient view during inclement weather conditions.
Components
The assembly consists of an electrical motor, a gearbox and two wiper
arms with one wiper blade attached. The system is supplied with
electrical power from the ESS BUS 1 and is protected by a circuit
breaker, located on the overhead panel labeled WIPER.
Operation
The windshield wiper is controlled by the switch WIPER, located in the
overhead panel. The control switch has three positions:
-- SLOW
normal operation speed,
-- FAST
high speed operation, required for heavy rain and snow,
-- OFF
the windshield wiper arm returns to its park position and
stops.
Additionally to the permanent operation by the switch in the overhead
panel, the wiper can be triggered by a one time push button mounted
in the control panels of the pilot and copilot collective lever.

PUSH FOR DEFOG, the air-switch can be controlled. If the knob is fully
pushed down, the whole airflow coming from the blower is routed
through the ejector to the windscreen ducts. In the ejector the cold air
is mixed with warm air coming from the mixing valve. If the Bowden
cable is fully pulled out, the total airflow is routed to the air--nozzles in
the instrument panel.

Pax Ventilation
General
To provide more fresh air to the cabin, a pax ventilation system is
installed in addition to the heating / ventilation system.
System Design
Ambient air entering the system through a Naca inlet installed RH side
of the roof structure. After the air has passed a water separator, it is
forced by means of a blower into a tube system which distributes the
air to the discharge nozzles.
The blower is electricaly connected to the SHED BUS 2 via the circuit
breaker PAX BLW and controlled by a switch labeled PAX BLW in the
overhead console.

System Design
The instruments cooling blower sucks air either from the RH NACA
inlet or the RH recirculation duct, depending of the flap valve position,
and blow it to the instrument panel. Via a triple distributor each
compartment of the instrument panel are provided with cooling air. The
instruments cooling system is electrically supplied via a circuit breaker
INST COOL at SHED BUS 2.
Blower Control
The instruments cooling blower is switched on / off automatically via
a temperature switch mounted inside the center part of the instrument
panel. It will switch the blower on with a temperature above 45 °C and
off with a temperature below 40 °C. In case of insufficient cooling, a
caution CPDS OVHT will appear on the CAD if the temperature raise
above 55 °C inside the center part of the instrument panel.

Fire Extinguisher
Description
The fire extinguisher is a model “Air Total” with a filled weight of approx.
2 kg. The extinguishing agent is Halon 1211.
Flashlight
Location
The flashlight Stabex Mini can be installed either to the pilot ’s door or
at the copilot’s door or on both doors. It is attached to the door with a

Anti--Collision Light
General
The anti--collision light is a strobe light covered by a red glass and
informs other aircrafts about the presence of the helicopter, even in
adverse weather conditions.
The system comprises a flash tube covered by a red glass installed to
a console on top of the vertical fin and a power supply attached to a
bracket in the lower part of the vertical fin.
The flash rate of the anti--collision light is 40 to 100 times per minute.
In case of NVG--compatible anti--collision light (optional) the red glass
cover serves as a filter.

Interior Fairings
General
The interior fairings are made of phenolic-prepreg glasfibre reinforced
plastic, with a material thickness of 0.8 to 1.5 mm. The panels are
reinforced with nomex cores with a thickness of 5 to 8 mm.
On the cabin frame are three mounted panels. The center frame panel
is fixed to the frame with spring clips and screwed together with the
compass bracket. The two panels at the horizontal frames are
mounted via plastic straddling dowels.
The interior fairing in the passenger and cargo compartment consists
of three roof panels, six side panels and three small panels which
cover the gap between the cargo and the passenger compartment
panels.
The panels are fixed with a type of quick release screws and spherical
typehead pins fitted in spring clips. Additionally the side panels are
retained with Velcro tapes. The three small panels are mounted by
Velcro tapes only. The aft two roof panels are supported additionally
with two spring clips each at the mainframe of the fuselage.
Installation
To install the fairing, first the three small panels have to be fixed with
the Velcro tapes. After that the side panels can be installed, followed
by the last two front ones, as they are overlapping. Finally the three
roof panels can be installed, the middle ones shall be the last because
they overlap too.
For deinstallation the order must be reversed.
