During the online portion of Lab 2 you were requested to conduct a search into specifications, dimensions,
design characteristics, etc. corresponding to the ICE selected for your group regarding the practical lab
component of MET 648.
During lab periods 3 you will now generate a short technical report outlining the investigation you have already
completed for lab periods 1 & 2 regarding your specific group’s engine. The report will be written as a
technical document. This written report will follow the guidelines below:
Use Microsoft word to create a short report outlining the data and information search already completed
which will be formatted as follows:
1 inch margins
12 font
Times New Roman font
Use headers (document name, your name(s), section-subsection-group number ) and footers (the date,
page numbers)
The report is to be no longer than 3 pages (not including title page and references page)
1.5 line spacing
Use proper figure referencing (use minimum 4 references – i.e. websites, magazines, books, etc)
title page includes title, names, date, course code, submitted to
Include a title page showing:
Student names
Course code
Submission date
Title of project
Submitted to (Professors: Dale Haggith & Colin Robson)
The main body of the report will include:
Figures representing the engine, graphs, charts, tables, etc (these could/would include: i.e. power vs
torque curves, cam profile, valve timing, spark timing, engine head flow measurements from
manufacturer, photo ID of engine, etc); please remember that all tables and figures can be copied
directly from a source if properly referenced. Text cannot be copied and pasted.
Headings to identify subtopics in the report (some examples are as follows, the following examples are
not the limit of what can be implemented):
- Engine Identification
- Operational Features
- Dimensional Characteristics
- Performance/Emission Details
- Summary
Reference List with proper numbering
This report will be due March 8, 2021 at 11:00 (the beginning of lecture). Late submissions will be penalized.
An example of a technical research paper has been provided in the BB folder for your review to depict the
concepts of formatting, headings, citation techniques and referencing, etc.
