Open Ended Lab Experiment

Objective:
To use Double Roll crusher (Smooth) as Mixer.

Introduction:
To make silicone, the silicon atoms must be isolated from the silicon dioxide
compound silica. This is done by heating large volumes of quartz sand to
extremely high temperatures, often up to 1800°C. From here, there are several
processes where silicon is combined with methyl chloride and heated. It is then
distilled into a polymerised siloxane known as polydimethylsiloxane. The
polydimethylsiloxane can then be polymerised. This is done using a variety of
techniques depending on the use of the final product. The raw silicone compound
is then often combined with pigments, any additives required and combine with
the catalyst for injection moulding or extrusion.
Basically, the process of mixing of pigments with raw silicon to for final
Silicon rubber is done on Double Roll crusher.

Silicon Rubber Applications:

Silicone rubber can be found in a wide variety of products, including: voltage line
insulators, automotive applications; cooking, baking, and food storage products;
apparel such as undergarments, sportswear, and footwear; electronics; medical
devices.
Mixing Process:
1. First, we enter Silicon rubber raw material in between of two smooth rollers.
2. Then add Pigments on any part of that silicone rubber during mixing.
3. Repeat the mixing process again and again two get Homogeneous mixture.

Rollers Material:
The Rollers are made up of Stainless Steel that is non-Sticky and can easily
compress the rubber material for homogenous mixing.
