1. Explain the differences between teaching, test, assessment and evaluation.
Answer :
A. A test or quiz is used to examine someone's knowledge of something to determine
what he or she knows or has learned. Testing measures the level of skill or
knowledge that has been reached.
B. Evaluation is the process of making judgments based on criteria and evidence.
C. Assessment is the process of documenting knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs,
usually in measurable terms. The goal of assessment is to make improvements, as
opposed to simply being judged. In an educational context, assessment is the
process of describing, collecting, recording, scoring, and interpreting information
about learning.

2. Explain the distinction between norm-referenced and criterion referenced testing.

Answer :
Items on norm-referenced tests need to discriminate between high and low performers
because those tests are generally used to make aptitude, proficiency or placement
decisions. Criterion-referenced tests, in contrast, are used to measure mastery of specific
material and the goal is success for all students.

3. Explain the principle/characteristics of a good test.

Answer :
1. Reliability: A good test should be highly reliable. This means that the test should
give similar results even though different testers administrate it, different people scores
in different forms of the test are given and the same person takes that test at two or
more different times. Reliability is usually checked by comparing different sets of
scores.
2. Validity: The first important characteristic of a good test is validity. The test must
really measure what it has been designed to measure. Validity is often assessed by
exploring how the test scores correspond to some criteria, that is same behaviour,
personal accomplishment or characteristic that reflects the attribute that the test
designed to gauge.
3. Objectivity: By objectivity of a measuring instrument is meant for the degree to
which equally competent users get the same results. This presupposes subjective
factor. A test is objective when it makes for the elimination of the scorer’s personal
opinion bias judgment. The recognition of the quality objectivity in a test has been
largely responsible for the development of an arised and objective type tests.
4. Usability: Usability is another important characteristic of measuring instruments.
Because practical considerations of the evaluation instruments cannot be neglected.
The test must have practical value from time, economy, and administration point of
view. This may be termed as usability.Explain types of tests.
4. Explain types of assessing speaking.
Answer :
Four basic types of speaking that are assessed. These four types are imitative, intensive,
responsive, interactive, and extensive. Assessments become more open-ended and
there for a greater challenge as proficiency levels increase.
