Practical Work: Drug Prescribing

A. Course Learning Objectives

At the end of the practical work of drug prescribing, the students are expected to be able:
1. To explain various drug formulations.
2. To write a prescription lege artis.
3. To mix the drugs in a powder form (puyer).

B. The Principles of Drug Prescription

A complete prescription should include:
1. The physician’s name
2. The number of physician’s license (SIP)
3. Address of the physician’s office
4. Phone number of the physician’s office
5. The place (city) and date of the prescription
6. The name and formulation of the drug
7. The amount of the drug given
8. The instruction of drug usage
9. Signature
10. Name, age, and weight of the patient
11. Address of patient (in hospital: registry number)

C. BEFORE the practical work begins, the students must:

1. Understand various drug formulation.
2. Understand how to write a prescription in various drug formulation.
3. Understand how to calculate the dosage of the drug in syrup and powder (puyer) formulations.
4. Each student MUST bring MIMS or ISO for discussion during the practical work.
5. Students should individually write the assigned prescriptions.

1. Ciprofloxacin tablet, 2 x tab 1 daily, for 7
days, should be taken until it runs out. For
Ny. Putri, 28 y.o., Jl. Semangka 3 Malang.
 3. Paracetamol oral drop, dose: 10-15
mg/kgBW/x, 3 x daily, for 3 days, should be
taken when fever occurs. For An. Agung, 6
month-old, BW: 7 kg, Jl. Mawar 5 Malang.

days, should be taken until it runs out. For

for 3 days, should be taken before sleep,

16. Doctor gives diazepam rectal gel tube to

treat children with febrile seizure in

 19. Xylometazoline hydrochloride nasal drops,
should be taken 1 drops on both nasal cavity
when nasal congestion occurs up to 3 times

17. Oralit powder sachet, taken as much as he

can for oral rehydration. Doctor prescribes 10
sachet. For An. Cello, 5 y.o., Jl. Sawo 30 Malang.

20. Doctor gives intravenous injection of

metamizole ampules for relieving acute pain
postoperatively. Doctor also prescribes spuit 3
cc. For Tn. Andik, 35 y.o, Jln. Duren 12 Malang.

18. Salbutamol nebules, doctor gives for

relieving the shortness of breath. Beside the
nebules formulation, doctor also prescribes NS
flash 25 cc, pediatric mask and spuit 3 cc. For.
An. Dian, 5 y.o./15 kg, Jl. Markisa 25 Malang.
