WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK
I’m a person with a message to share just like you. The truth is I never planned
on writing this book about YouTube Video Marketing. I thought for sure my first
book would be about my life and how I overcame so many challenges living
with my abusive grandmother and her perverted boyfriend. I thought it might
even be about the challenges I endured when no one believed the "stories" I told
about the abuse I endured living with them even though family members, people
at church and the teachers saw the bruises on my body... I remember when I was
in the 5 grade my grandmother visited my school and beat me with her shoe in
th

front of the entire class while the teacher, Mrs. Lee, was in the classroom. My
offense? Talking too much in class. All of that talking is what now makes me
money on YouTube!
I thought my first book might be about never meeting my biological mother or
how the father I met when I was 18 behind prison walls passed away after
spending nearly 20 years of his life in prison. I thought my first book might even
be about the father of my 3 children, my first failed marriage, how I went from a
General Equivalency Diploma to earning a Master’s (with an “A” average)
before I was 30 or how I survived in a homeless shelter with my 9 month old
daughter. Well, it's not about any of those! It's about my 4 year journey on the
world’s largest video website - YouTube!
I started my journey on YouTube in 2009 and in 4 years had over 1.4 million
views, over 10,000 subscribers, multiple businesses and have made over $50,000
in sales online! That is the equivalent of speaking to a sold out concert crowd of
20,000 at the Madison Square Garden over 70 times. Imaging getting your
message in front of 1.4 million people – for free! Where else can you get your
message out and advertise to so many people for free? Anyone that is not using
YouTube in their business is missing out on thousands and thousands of dollars
and spending way too much on advertising that they could be getting for free.
This book started off as a special report that I was going to offer as an opt-in
offer on my website. After writing more than 20 pages I realized that it could be
more than a special report and contacted my friend, Kate Redwine. She has 2-#1
Amazon bestsellers and she gave me guidance that helped me turn the report into
my very first book. She even turned her training into a free 14-Day Best Seller
Kindle Course. So…my very first book is not about the life I endured, it is about
a life I now enjoy. It is YouTube Secrets Revealed and I am so excited to share
my story of how I used YouTube to make more than $50,000 in online sales so
that you can use my mistakes to your advantage and get more views, subscribers,
build traffic and learn how you can make money online.
Are you ready?
Let’s go!
WHY YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK
There is an amazing opportunity out there for you to share your message with
the world for free and you do not have to be dishonest to do it. You do not have
to buy views or pay for subscribers. With a strategy you can get more views,
add more subscribers, build traffic and make money online. I am a YouTuber
and in this book I share with you my story from beginning to end.
Many people are searching for how to make money online using YouTube when
you can make more money online leveraging YouTube and video marketing.
Unless your channel is owned by an advertiser and makes partnership, it is very
difficult to realize the hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars that some
channels are making with YouTube. This doesn’t mean that you can’t make
money on YouTube, it simply means that you can use YouTube to build a
marketing funnel and grow your very own money tree with YouTube.
At the time when I wrote this book there were 48 books on Amazon specifically
about YouTube video marketing and only 4 were written by women and was co-
authored. Might sound a little discouraging if you think of the glass half empty
instead of the glass half-full. I saw an amazing opportunity to share my journey,
what I learned and show real results.
I wrote this book with the beginner in mind. Although there are strategies and
tips included, it is not written in a tactical approach or the formal step-by-step
approach many other books about YouTube offer. Instead, I chose a more
conversational, illustrative and literal approach for the everyday individual that
wants to start or grow their channel and produce results. I did make sure to
highlight big tips and summarize chapters where I believe it was necessary for
you to pay close attention and apply the strategies, tactics or tips.
There are action steps and an infograph included that you can print off to use at
the end of the book. My goal is for you to see from start to finish how taking
advantage of the mistakes I share in this book that you can use them to work for
your channel and you, too, can begin producing results on your channel.
I reversed engineered my entire journey on YouTube and went through every
year, what I learned and gave you specific ways to leverage the information to
build your YouTube channel using YouTube. I specifically point out the
mistakes that I made and how you can leverage them for your own YouTube
success. I used specific illustrations from my YouTube channel so that you
could see how my channel evolved and to better illustrate some of the points that
I make in the book.
This book is for the person that:
*Is interested in YouTube but does not know how to get started
*The beginner that wants a guide that will help them get started now
*Wants to see results in their YouTube Video Marketing

better, solve problems, educate, raise positive emotions like self-confidence,
make things easier in life, help others realize their dreams and give hope. I make
videos to make a difference and I hope that you will too.

UPDATE

Thank you so much for downloading this book! It’s been an amazing journey
since I first published it July 2013 and over 3000 copies have been downloaded.
This was my first book and a giant leap of faith. I know it had a few editing
challenges for which I profusely apologize. I was an amateur and thought that
my eyes could catch them and I was wrong. Please forgive me.
I also received a comment from a well-meaning gentleman that told me “…your
words of encouragement and inspiration are very good, however as a business
person, you may turn off the business crowd. You need to separate business and
inspiration.” If you are offended by a positive message and are looking for a
business book there are dozens of other books about YouTube that you can
download. This book is written from my point of view for the beginner that
wants to learn video marketing, increase subscribers, views and grow a
community on YouTube.
I don’t teach theory – I teach results. Every tip that I give I do. In 6 months my
YouTube channel has grown by 5,000 subscribers and over 500,000 views. I’m
in the trenches just like you. YouTube has given me opportunities to grow
multiple businesses and to use video marketing as part of my strategy to retire
from my corporate career in before 40.
Instead of adding new chapters I decided to update current chapters. You’ll see
*UPDATE* and the new content at the end of the chapters where I add fresh
content. There have been many changes with the integration of Google+ and
Google Keyword Tool going away and I want you to still know how to become a
YouTube rockstar.
Lastly, I read every review. It is considered “taboo” for an “Indie Author” to
comment so that is why I refrain from doing so. Although I refrained from
doing so for six months I have decided that I will be responding to comments. I
believe in being a copycat and copying the right cat. If Gary Vaynerchuk
responds back then I’ll take my chances and let “them” think what they want.
Thank you so much for your continued support! I believe that YouTube gives us
an awesome opportunity to provide hope to the world through our messages.
Please know that I am here for you and hope that you use YouTube as part of
your marketing strategy.
Let’s grow great together,

CHAPTER 1: WHY I BEGAN MY YOUTUBE JOURNEY

In 2009 I began my YouTube Video Marketing journey. Little did I know
four years later I would have nearly 10,000 subscribers and over 1.3 million
views on my videos. I simply turned on my camera one day and wanted to share
my message of hope with the world. My very first video is still available for
view on YouTube and it is so embarrassing. The audio and video don't match,
the time is embedded in the video and it was only 34 seconds long. I had no idea
what I was doing I only wanted to share a message. Seemed like a “fail” video
right?

I created an account and used the name SPARKWISDOM that

represented the nonprofit that I founded “Single Parent Assistance Resources
and Knowledge Network.” The mission of the nonprofit was to “Activate
Confidence and Inspire Wisdom in the Single Parent Family” so it just made
sense to me to take the acronym “Spark” and apply the word “Wisdom.” That
simple connection was a fantastic idea even though I didn’t know it at the time
and we’ll talk about it in greater depth later. My entire purpose for beginning
my channel was to introduce people into my world and to share some of the
challenges that I had encountered in my life and how I overcame them as a
single parent.
Little did I know that one video would provide the gateway that I needed
to create more videos to inspire, educate and share my message with the world. I
continued making even more videos and thank God they were better than the
first one. The second series of videos that I did were in my office that was
donated to my nonprofit. I founded the nonprofit Single Parent Assistance
Resources and Knowledge Network in 2009 and our mission was to “Activate
Confidence and Inspire Wisdom in the Single Parent Family.”
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SHARE
The thought of sharing with other single parents is what drove me to start
my YouTube channel and create videos. What is driving you? Why do you want
to share your message with the world? Is it for business or entertainment? Do
you want to show people how to do something or do you want to have a way to
upload and preserve memories for your family? Or do you have no clear drive
and simply just want to share? Everyone has a different reason for why they
want to share videos online. Even if you are not in business, you are still
marketing something so why not use video to do it?
When I first began my video marketing journey on YouTube I didn’t
realize that by sharing my life story, and including my family in my videos along
with just a small amount of business talk occasionally I was implementing a
strategy that I now call the 80/20 rule with video marketing on YouTube.
Keeping my channel diverse helped me to increase views, gain subscribers and
build traffic to my site. Not only was I sharing business information through my
nonprofit initially, I was sharing my life experiences with my amazing viewers
and subscribers who could identify and relate to what I was saying. I was
“keeping it real” and I didn’t even know it.
Here is a list of statistics that would be good to remember from YouTube Press
Statistics:
* More than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month
* Over 4 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube
* 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute
* 70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the US
* YouTube is localized in 53 countries and across 61 languages
* In 2011, YouTube had more than 1 trillion views or around 140 views for
every person on Earth
* Millions of subscriptions happen each day

If you have a message that you want to share with the world, YouTube is
definitely the place that you want to share it. It is the 2 largest website and in
nd

2011, had over one TRILLION total views. That's over 140 views for every
man woman and child on earth and YouTube is the largest video site in the
world. According to a 2012 article on Nbcnews.com “America’s 10 largest
websites” 18.6 billion videos were viewed at this division of Google in January
against a total of 40 billion nationwide for all websites. The average number of
minutes per viewer for Google’s video content, almost all of it on YouTube, was
448 minutes in January, compared to 57 minutes on Yahoo! and 22 minutes on
Facebook.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Spend some time thinking about what you want to share and why.
- Share what drives you in your message and how you can share it to encourage
and “drive” others
- Be clear about the footprint you want to leave on your channel.
- He who has the idea has the idea. He who executes on the idea makes their
dreams come true.
CHAPTER 2: HOW TO CONNECT ENTERTAINMENT AND BUSINESS ON YOUTUBE
After uploading my very first video in 2009, I quickly developed a strong
like for YouTube and found myself doing more and more videos. I found a
connection between the viewers that were watching my videos commenting and
just overall I enjoyed watching other videos too. Little did I know that that
journey in 2009 to share would later introduce me to my husband, new
businesses and so much more.
I began sharing everything from my life, my hopes and dreams and
successes on YouTube. I even shared a child support story and when my father
passed away I shared it first on YouTube. YouTube is an amazing sharing
platform with some of the most amazing people on the planet who actually care.
As I was making the videos I never really had a focus for traffic to a website,
building an email list or any of the other fundamentals which come along in
business.
That’s why I decided to write this book. You can learn from all of the
mistakes I made and find out how to optimize your videos, gain more views and
subscribers on the 2 largest search engine in the world and eventually maybe
nd

even make money. Even if you don’t have a business using the strategies I
outline will help you to optimize your titles and tags so that your videos can be
found in search engines.
Most people don’t understand that YouTube is really about having a balance
in your videos between business, information and entertainment. Most of the
people that are on YouTube are there to be entertained. They are not there to
learn business and you can see that from top business videos versus fun videos
that I have included examples in the book.
3 BASIC TYPES OF VIDEOS
There are 3 basic types of videos that people upload to YouTube - videos
that are informative, educational and those that entertain. Do you remember in
elementary school when you were taught the basic modes of writing? They
included creative writing, descriptive writing, expository writing, narrative
writing and persuasive writing? Take what you learned in elementary school and
apply it to your videos. You want to be sure to use your videos as a place where
you are providing details, information and adding value to your viewers and
subscribers.
One of the things that I realize now that I didn't know when I started
YouTube is that many of the YouTuber’s sharing videos tend to be entertaining.
I wish I could say that I was on YouTube to entertain as well yet it would not be
the truth. In fact I am a pretty serious person and although I like a great laugh or
Madea comedy it’s not often that I tend to watch anything outside of personal
development or something I’m extremely interested in learning about. Now
there are times when I have watched “Man versus Wild” with my son and I
really like that show (yet that would still be considered informative
entertainment.) Yes, most people would probably find me pretty boring unless
they’re interested in business, personal development or learning new things.
The SMOSH channel was created in November 2005 in as you can see
from the views they have plenty of video views and subscribers and they rank
number #1 on YouTube. People are watching videos on YouTube because they
want to be entertained.

The Tony Robbins Live channel was created January 2010 so as you can see
people are on YouTube to be entertained. You must understand that in order to
have a successful channel when using YouTube to drive traffic to your business.
At the date of this publication, the Tony Robbins Live channel is ranked number
9,683 in YouTube versus the SMOSH channel’s #1 ranking on YouTube as of
April 2013.
Another thing I want to point out with the SMOSH channel is that they are
intentional with their banner. They have specific information on their banner
asking for their viewers to subscribe, watch additional videos and they included
their Facebook and Twitter icons as well as the information to visit their
website. This is definitely a phenomenal example of a Call-to-Action banner.
At the time of this publication both channels were using a YouTube
interface that involved an exclusive page. YouTube has since introduced the
“One Channel” design that is amazing! The branding works across all devices,
you can reach out to non-subscribed viewers, and you can show off more of your
content. One of the features that I like the best is the featured trailer that plays
when non-subscribed viewers land on your channel.
In order to maximize the channel design you will want to upload a
banner that is 2560 x 1440. I recommend outsourcing the banner creation and
you can easily find someone on Fiverr to do this. Simply do a search for
“YouTube Channel Art” or “YouTube Banner” and select “Rating” and select a
match from one of the top-rated sellers. Be sure to include information in the
“About” section and custom links. Let people know who you are, what you do
and where they can find you online. I included an example of my channel art
below as an example.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Find balance between entertainment and education on your channel.
- There are three basic types of videos-informative, educational and entertaining.
- Be sure to update and optimize the about section of your YouTube channel art
and include custom links.
CHAPTER 3: HOW TO CREATE A CHANNEL TRAILER
I have over 300 videos uploaded that vary from Natural Hair tutorials,
Entrepreneurship, Motivational, Goal Setting, Family and Vegan Cuisine so my
channel “purpose” might not be evident to a new subscriber. The channel trailer
gives me an opportunity to speak to potential subscribers directly and explain my
vision of inspiring, educating and sharing with them. This also is a great way to
introduce yourself to your subscribers and it gives them an opportunity to learn
about you in just a few minutes and how your channel would best benefit them.
I know that there are video marketing coaches and teachers that teach
reading from a script, I strongly suggest that when you record your channel
trailer that you speak directly from your heart. It is okay to be a little bit
nervous, just look directly into the camera and speak your message of hope and
inspiration from your heart.

Do not use this time to talk all about your business or direct sales
company that you just joined. If you are on YouTube to spam others your
channel will never grow. Remember to keep it under three minutes and rehearse
your channel trailer a few times before you get in front of the camera without the
script. Although I do not use a script when recording my videos, I do rehearse
my videos and key points a few times before I press record on my camera. I just
told on myself and revealed another secret. Yes, I do talk to myself! Here are
a few guiding points that will help you as you create your channel trailer.
*Create a video and explain who you are, what you share and why I should be
subscribe to your channel.
*If you’ve already been on YouTube for a number of years consider editing a few
or videos and explain your personal journey on YouTube.
*Talk about the types of videos that you’ve already created how often you post
and what people can expect in terms of new content from your channel.

CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED

- Speak from the heart when creating your channel trailer. Let people know who
you are what you're sharing and why they should subscribe to your channel
- Remember to rehearse your channel trailer a few times before you start
recording it and from the camera. Practice talking to yourself – it works!
CHAPTER 4: HOW TO OVERCOME DISCOURAGEMENT
There are many reasons why people become discouraged when sharing
on YouTube and we’re going to talk about a few of those. Many people become
discouraged when sharing their business on YouTube and stop creating videos.
YouTube is not the best place to just share business videos and to tell everyone
how to get their life together. People are there because they want to have fun, be
entertained and to get away from the conundrum of their current life.
As you are creating your videos, remember that people are online to be
entertained. The best way to have balance when creating and sharing videos is
to have an 80/20 rule. Entertain your viewers 80% of the time and 20% of the
time to share your message. Now when I am talking entertainment I am not
talking about creating a comedy act. I am simply saying that you can share your
life. Video captures important moments and you should be using it! Share a
recent adventure with your family or share the night your children went to
prom. I shared the video I created for my daughters’ prom night on YouTube
and the comments were amazing!

If you are in business think of intentional ways to share your life with your
viewers and remember that people do business with people they know, like and
trust. Even if you aren’t in business remember that if you are creating videos
you are using – video marketing. Don't believe me? Well you are marketing
your greatest masterpiece and that is you!
Through your channel you can share your message of hope, inspire others
or simply use it for fun for the rest of your life. Most people believe that I came
up with this amazing channel name “SPARKWISDOM” so that I could provide
wisdom to others. Well, as you learned in the beginning I did it only because it
represented my nonprofit.
Take time to celebrate milestones and accomplishments! When you reach
your first 100 subscribers you may want to host a giveaway. You can give away
a product, a report, a book or anything you like because it is your YouTube
channel. When I reached the 10,000th subscriber milestone I did a special video
for all my subscribers and it was one of the best videos ever. I had an
opportunity to tell the subscribers how much they meant to me and they
reciprocated the sentiment back to me. It was one of the most emotional videos I
have ever posted on my channel.

YouTube isn't like most social platforms where you can be anyone or
anything you want to be by changing your name over and over again so you do
want to make sure that your name reflects you. When I first created my channel I
had only one chance to choose a name. I strongly suggest that you make sure it
is something you can live with for a very long time. Consider that your channel
may involve, but sure where that you may later be using it for business. The
name you choose on YouTube may be what you get to be for the lifetime of your
channel. So choose wisely! You can only change your name once, as I
understand it.
If you would like to change your YouTube username here are the
instructions: Please note: This option is not available for all accounts.
* Log into your YouTube account and go to your account at
http://youtube.com/account
* Click on the “Edit on Google+ link” and it will take you to your Google Plus
account
* Select your name and a box will come up with your name
* Select “More Options” and add a Nickname
* Choose the Display Name you want to appear on YouTube (you must make a
choice)
* Save the changes
You will see a notification message from Google about changing your name and
there is a limit to the number of times you can change your name on your profile
and it will change all of the names on your Google services. It will take some
time to see the change. Once complete, your nickname will show up on
YouTube.
I receive so many messages from people that become discouraged when
first starting out on YouTube. If you are one of the people that have sent me a
message in the past and are now reading this, be encouraged! We all get
discouraged from time to time yet you must do something every single day that
fills your cup back up and helps you to refresh. Sometimes we spend so much
time pouring out to other people that we forget that we need poured back into as
well. I want to encourage you to make sure that you take time to refresh.

CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED

- Remember the 80/20 rule when creating videos and seek to edutain viewers
and subscribers.
- Share messages of hope and inspiration from your life when your channel in
your videos.
- Take time to celebrate milestones and accomplishments with your viewers and
subscribers.
- Choose your channel name wisely as it may involve over the years as you
mature or start a business.
- Make sure that you take time to refresh and re-energize so that you
CHAPTER 5: HOW TO CHOOSE THE CHANNEL NAME
I know you may be wondering how to choose your channel name. I’m
sure I could think of dozens of ways to help you choose your name yet I’m not
going to. Your channel name needs to be as unique as you are. It needs to
encompass everything about you and you need to put in some thought about it
yet not too much. Don’t overthink it to the point where you never create a
channel at all. If you know that you have a channel name that does not represent
you well and you have very little views or subscribers then consider changing it.
You are not an oak tree. You are never stuck in a situation that you can’t change.
The only drawback is you must create a new channel if you don’t have the
option to change the channel name.
As you learned, my channel name was derived from an acronym that I
took from my nonprofit Single Parent Assistance Resources & Knowledge
Network (SPARK). The wisdom came from the mission “Activating Confidence
and Inspiring Wisdom” in the Single Parent family. Pretty creative huh? The
funniest part is I used to have a nickname when I worked for a telemarketing
company in Alliance, OH and my nickname was “Sparky” so I guess the term
spark has stayed with me over the years.
SHARING THE MESSAGE
After my first video I immediately felt a connection with the camera and
was excited to create more videos. Creating videos felt like a natural way to
share my message. I could express my thoughts through audio, visual and text
as long as I left information in the description box (although at the time I was not
knowledgeable about the description box or tags). This was simply an amazing
opportunity to share my message with the world. If you can tell in the first video
I was really nervous and I didn’t know what to say. I must admit that there are
still times when I turn on the camera to record and I am still a little bit nervous.
Sometimes I wonder if my message will be clear or if it will be taken the right
way.
There are times when I think - What will they say? Will this message
inspire? Who is going to see this? In the past four years that I've been on
YouTube I had many messages in my inbox from old friends and even people
that I have dated in the past. Being online will bring people into your life from
all different walks of life and it can become very interesting. Now with over 1.3
million views I can only imagine the number of people that have seen my videos
online and it brings a wonderful smile to my face.
We all have a message that we can share with the world that can inspire
others, encourage others and help people realize that they are never alone
whether it's through the happy times, the sad times, birth or death - we all have
something to share with this world. My messages have ranged from
announcements about starting a new business, natural hair, moving to a new
state, learning new things in my job, creating products, time with my kids, even
one of my most popular videos “Help! My 13-year-old is having a Baby” and
dozens of other topics. My channel has gone against the grain because I never
stayed with just one message or in one niche.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Be creative when choosing your channel name
- Remember that you will grow, mature and times will change. Remember to
choose your channel name wisely.
- Make your channel as unique as you are. Go against the grain and remember
that people are there because of you.
CHAPTER 6: THROUGH THE YEARS (2009)
I posted my first video in May 2009 and within 1 year I created 50 more
videos and by 2010 I was gaining more than 1000 views per video. I was so
excited!

Nearly 1 year later I was more comfortable in front of the camera and found
myself really enjoying recording and uploading videos at least a few times a
week. The video playlist above represents 1 full year from the first video that I
made on YouTube and I want to encourage you as you are reading this book if
this is your first video or your hundredth video to be consistent and go forward
in your journey with video marketing on YouTube.
Within 1 year on YouTube I managed to share information about my
nonprofit, my husband (who was then my boyfriend), my children, and business
tips that I could share about financing business and natural hair. As I’m sure you
can tell my channel was all over the place and there was no central focus except
my life mission to inspire, educate and share. I felt like I was in my zone! Still I
was making a huge mistake with each video and I didn’t know it.
I was leaving money on the table (literally), I was not building a list and
many times I had no call to action in my videos. I simply was just sharing
information with no true intention or focus behind. I know that any Internet
Marketer reading this is probably thinking “Are you crazy???”
I do believe that you should be intentional with your YouTube channel.
YouTube is a phenomenal place to build a list that is your ideal client, market
and still have a place where you can store your memories forever. When I
started my channel I didn’t know much about business and I can tell you I am
still a student of learning and will be forever. Many of my business ideas came
from comments, ideas and subscribers and videos I shared on YouTube.
My first forprofit company, Organic Life Products, began when I started
making natural product tutorial and “how to” videos. I would receive hundreds
of messages per week about my videos and the products and I spent time every
single day answering every single question. The worst part is after I answered
each question I would delete the question from my YouTube inbox instead of
just simply creating a frequently asked questions document. Big mistake!
By the end of 2009 I had recorded and uploaded over 51 videos and shared
over two hours of information and messages on YouTube. In a matter of seven
months I went from zero videos to over 51 and never stopped to look back. I
also went from being a divorced, single mom of three to having a fiancé. My
videos ranged from a “Stuff Broke People Do Series” to “The Love Experience”
and I begin sharing my family on video as well. YouTube quickly became my
favorite Social Media platform to share my thoughts with others that I believed
could add value to my life.
It felt like a safe place to share my thoughts with the world. I found a way
to share some of my favorite recipes, tutorials and “how to” videos. I was on a
natural high! Yet I was still making mistakes with my videos that I wasn't aware
of and although I was getting more views and subscribers I certainly wasn’t
making any money online from my YouTube channel. I was just simply on
YouTube to have fun.
By the end of 2009 I had thousands of videos, comments and likes and I
never asked for an email address and never paid much attention to the title,
description or tags. I simply used YouTube as my "go to place" to communicate
with my viewers and subscribers. I never took time to view the analytics report.
Actually I'm not sure that I even knew existed. I simply just wanted to share a
message with the world.

To find your analytics settings go to https://www.youtube.com/analytics

and when prompted sign into your Google account and you will see an overview
of the last 30 days for performance, engagement, top videos, demographics and
discovery. If you have never checked your analytics you just may realize that
you have estimated earnings for the first time. This happened to someone I
know once and they had a nice monetary surprise waiting for them. If this
happens be sure to leave me a comment on Facebook and let me know!
If you do not see the estimated earning box then go to your channel
settings and enable it under Feature. While writing this book I was showing this
feature to my daughter and she logged into her YouTube account and realized
that she hadn’t enabled the monetize option on any of the videos on her channel.
You want to make sure you enable this feature.

How and when you decide to monetize your videos is entirely up to you.
I do not monetize my videos as soon as I release them and many I never
monetize at all. I am no longer after pennies as much as I am after capturing
email addresses and building my community. There are times when I will go
back after a few days and then I enable monetization. I do this because the first
few hundred views that come to my videos are normally from those that are
subscribed to me and typically they are not going to click an ad and leave the
video. Some people teach to never monetize videos and send all of your traffic
to your website and build your list while others teach to monetize them all. I
don’t know, all I know is the few hundred dollars I get per month makes me
happy and the few hundred I get weekly to my email list make me happier. You
have to make a decision to do what is best in the season of time you are in.
You can monetize all of your current videos in your Video Manager at
https://www.youtube.com/my_videos. Simply choose Edit, Advanced Settings
and you will see the Monetization information if your videos are eligible and
you have not used third party content or the video hasn’t been blocked in some
countries.

CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED

- Pay attention to your analytics. What gets measured gets results.
- Check to see if you have monetized your channel. How, when or if you decide
to monetize your channel is entirely up to you.
- Create videos with a focus in mind.
CHAPTER 7: HOW TO CREATE VIDEOS THAT PRODUCE FRONT PAGE GOOGLE &
YOUTUBE RESULTS
What is your purpose? Do you simply want to be on YouTube just to
have fun? Even if you are on YouTube just to have fun you still can learn from
my mistake and use it to your advantage so that you can get more views and
subscribers, build traffic and make money online. What fun is it to have amazing
videos and content is sheer that no one can find? I never wanted to start a
business, nor did I really have a real vision for where the channel would go.
This is how most people start out on YouTube – they simply want to
share a message. Many people just turn on the camera and they simply want to
share. This is excellent to do yet you should still start with a strategy and a plan
to be intentional in your videos so that you can increase your views,
engagement, add subscribers, build a list and drive traffic back to your website.
Unless you are creating YouTube videos that you intend to keep private
forever, which I am certain that none of you are, pay close attention to the details
included in this book. Since implementing them I have been successful at
reaching the front page of Google with nearly every video that I upload and the
front page of YouTube for the search criteria.
The videos below are just a few examples of front-page Google results.
Now I do understand that Google has changed their algorithms and that results
vary by region. I get that – yet a result is a result. Go after the first page and do
everything you can to optimize your title and descriptions. According to
YouTube, “The more words you include in your description, the higher your
change of being discovered by searchers.” You can learn more about Google
algorithms and how they rank relevant results higher in this article.
When you have a message of inspiration, motivation and encouragement
that you want to share how great would it feel to create a video that could reach
the front page of YouTube so people can find it? This book and the "Video
Marketing for Beginners' Course" can help you learn exactly how to use
keyword search so that you can get more views, subscribers and get your
message out to the world! Get real results!
As you can see this video ranks on the front page for Google results and in the
video results.
This is a short two-minute video I created with my son, Mansir. Out of about 23,
000,000 search results our video shows up on the front page of Google Video
Results!
“How to” videos are one of the most searched phrases on YouTube. I created a
simple 3-minute video teaching people how to finish reading a book. This video
ranks #1 out of over 200,000,000 search results.
This is one of my favorite videos with my son and we rank on the front page of
Google for organic search and video as well.

The “natural deodorant” videos are both on the front page of Google Video
Search results. Both videos will teach the viewer how to make natural deodorant
yet they rank differently in the searches. Don’t be afraid to create more than one
video about a topic.

Natural Hair is a competitive keyword and this video shows up on the

front page of Google for “Natural Hair Help!” Be creative when creating your
titles. They are the headline for your video. If you can upload a personalized
thumbnail it is a good idea. If you are not Photoshop savvy, a simple site that I
use is PicMonkey.
My coaching business teaches part-time entrepreneurs tips and strategies
to create content, build traffic and how to convert their passions into a profit.
What better place to be than on the front page of Google Video Search results for
building a part-time business? When you are creating your videos it is very
important to name your file the title of your video or include the keywords you
researched.
Be sure to do some research before you create the video and include your
keywords in your videos too. It has been said that YouTube’s transcription
service picks up on the keywords too. You want to do everything you can to
optimize your videos so that you can increase views, gain subscribers and build
traffic to your website for free using YouTube video marketing.
Get more views and traffic! Here is a free tool from YouTube that enables you to
find the most popular keywords. http://buff.ly/10ng1gY
The YouTube video “How to Break and Overcome a Poverty Mindset”
was created from an Instagram post. I took a picture of my bookshelves and
added some information about how much my life had changed as a result of
reading books. That post immediately began getting likes and comments and I
knew that I could create a video from it telling my story. I placed the pictures
from my Instagram post into my iMovie editor and recorded a voiceover and
added royalty-free music in the background. I uploaded the video file directly
on my Facebook page and uploaded a separate file to YouTube and shared the
video file from YouTube on my blog. To date the post has over 264 likes, 45
shares and over a dozen comments. This strategy is a great way to share your
videos on multiple platforms. You have a story so go tell it!
Be intentional online and create a plan. With a strategy you can get more
views, subscribers and you can build traffic and make money online! Be sure to
use keyword research with every video that you create. Stop using titles in your
videos that no one can find! Recently I went to a channel and the title of the
video was “Another haul…”

If you’re doing videos about “hauls” then be more specific about your find.
When I enter the keyword “haul” in YouTube’s search function the first two
videos include the young ladies below with hundreds of thousands of views. Be
as specific as possible in your title.
Even if people don’t come directly to your channel if you optimize your
title you have a better chance of having your message found online through the
Google and YouTube search functions. Why continue to create videos that don’t
get views and that no one can find online except you? Big tip: Never use the raw
file that is created for your video when it is uploaded. Example: Video
0987.mp4
One of my favorite video series is “How to Make Natural Deodorant.” I
have 4 videos that I created online that use this long tail keyword. One of the
videos ranks on the front page of Google and two of them rank on the front page
of Google’s Video Search and YouTube search. Both titles are optimized with
keywords:
[How to] make Armpit Candy (Natural Deodorant) Using Coconut Oil, Corn
Starch & Baking Soda
[How to] Make Homemade (Natural) Deodorant Using Coconut Oil, Corn
Starch & Baking Soda
Let’s review some of the titles that are currently on the 1 page of Google
st

for this search “How to Make Natural Deodorant.” I highlighted all of the
keywords in bold that are on Google:
*How to make natural, homemade deodorant
*How to make natural deodorant (2 results)
*How to make armpit candy natural deodorant using coconut oil…
* How to make homemade natural deodorant (2 results)
* How to make homemade natural deodorant using coconut oil…
* How to make all natural deodorant
* TWW recipe: all natural, homemade deodorant
For some of the titles there are multiple videos that show up in the Google video
search results. That’s why it is so important to have an optimized title and
description with keywords included in your videos.
An important factor to consider before publishing your video to YouTube
is what category to choose for your videos. Choosing the correct category for
your video is important and this is one thing that most people overlook doing. In
the beginning I never chose a category other than “People & Blogs.” Big
mistake. Choose the correct category so that you can do everything you can to
get your video to the front pages. The next time you watch a video check to see
what category it is in and be sure that you go back to any older videos you have
and select the correct category too.

Be sure that you review this chapter before you upload your next video.
There are so many videos that I see uploaded that have titles that don’t make
sense and nothing about the video is even included in the description box about
the video or the channel. If you do not take the time to optimize this information
then you will not be able to get views, subscribers, build traffic or make money
online because no one will be able to find your videos at all. You will just be
using YouTube as a video diary and if that is your goal, you will definitely
succeed.

Update
You can set the defaults in YouTube for future downloads. This is so
much easier and you can always override the settings on individual videos. Take
the template in the back of the book and add your social media credentials,
relevant tags and additional information relevant to your video. Update your
default settings at https://www.youtube.com/upload_defaults

CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED

- Create videos with a purpose.
- Use Google keyword search when creating headlines for your videos.
- Name your video file the title of your video and include keywords.
- Create videos from post used one other social media platforms that had a lot of
engagement.
- When you find something that works keep going! Create a video series or
show different ways to use of various product, service or message in different
ways.
- Choose the correct category for your videos so that people can find them.
CHAPTER 8: HOW TO CREATE VIDEOS THAT EDUTAIN
Most people give up before they even get started with video marketing
on YouTube. It can be a tough platform to get started on especially if you don’t
understand metadata or the importance of at least having a decent camera. We’ll
talk more about cameras in the book yet you do need to have at least a camera
where your audio and video do match. It is so annoying to watch bad videos and
most of the viewers on YouTube simply won’t watch your videos or subscribe.
YouTube subscribers are not very forgiving for bad videos and you can get a
decent camera for under $50 or just use your smartphone or tablet. Take the
time to create great videos and make sure your lighting is decent.
There are so many more videos on YouTube now that you must invest in
a decent camera and make sure that your audio and video match. You may also
want to invest in editing software as well. I use a program called iMovie or
ScreenFlow on my MacBook. In the past I have used Windows Movie Maker
and Camtasia. You can also use the free editing tool available on YouTube as
well and simply trim the beginning and end of your videos so that they look
polished.
Make sure that as you are sharing your message on YouTube that you are
certain to integrate different parts of your life. There are times when I have
shared conversations I’ve had with my children, recipes, cooking, and reviews
about restaurants I’ve visited. Don't be afraid to share your life on YouTube.
You will find that as you do your views and subscribers will and if you have a
blog, website or business you will attract your ideal client.
If you want to get more views and subscribers you must learn how to
create videos that “edutain” the people that watch your videos. One of my
favorite subscribers, Naptural85, shared the birth of her first child, Olivia, on
YouTube including her pregnancy along the way. She even began making daily
vlogs including her husband, Filipe, Olivia and so much more of her life. It has
been such a joy to watch her grow online and share her life with us. She now
has three channels and I am subscribed to two of them. She does a great job
teaching, educating and entertaining on all of her channels.
Remember that you want to share 80% of your life and the amazing
things happening or sometimes the occasional rant. From time-to-time you can
share things that are annoying to you and frustrating. Just remember that if you
do it all the time you will attract the type of people that enjoy that type of
company. It is true that misery attracts misery so be careful to create the type of
videos for the type of people you want to attract.
In the video “{mini RANT} Say My Name Right!” I had my son, Mansir,
share what happened in his third-grade classroom with a substitute teacher and
how it made him feel. I recorded this video in the kitchen while my husband
was fixing breakfast. It was a very simple video that it had an enormous impact
on the lives of other people. More people than I realized could relate to this
topic.
Because I was once a middle school teacher in an inner inner city school,
I understand how important it is to pronounce a name correctly. Many of my
students had names that were difficult to spell and pronounce yet I always made
an extra effort to get the pronunciation of their names right. In Dale Carnegie’s
book “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” he says that a person’s name
is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Investment in a decent camera or simply use your iPhone and invest in a tripod
and a tripod holder so that your videos are not shaky
- Don't be afraid to share your life online. People do business with people they
know, like and trust.
- Video marketing help build your brand and credibility.
- Set a goal to create videos of that edutain.
- Share rants occasionally and be careful that you don’t share something that
may haunt you in future years. Remember that videos that you share online can
also be downloaded by others and used against you. Exercise common sense.
CHAPTER 9: MARKETING AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
If you want to accelerate views, build traffic, gain subscribers and build
your brand I would strongly suggest that you implement strategies that will assist
your efforts. You can take advantage of certain Search Engine Optimization
(SEO) strategies and pay someone to generate various types of inbound links to
your videos that will help them rank higher in the search engines.
Effective ways to market your videos include backlinking, forum
marketing, blog commenting, commenting on other YouTube videos, adding
contacts and of course sharing your videos on Social Media. Adding contacts is
an effective strategy that I used in 2013. YouTube will give you a limit of 5000
contacts yet you can still add more yet you simply will be unable to see the list.
At the time of this publication, I had not implemented backlinking or forum
marketing strategies in my video marketing. Add contacts at
https://www.youtube.com/address_book
You can also share the videos on different Social Media platforms
including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and many other platforms. Also remember
to include your video on your website or blog. In 2009 Nate Elliott wrote a blog
post entitled “The Easiest Way to a First Page Ranking on Google” and this
included a study that indicated indexed video stands about a 50 times greater
chance of ranking on the first page of results than any given textual page in the
index.
I am sure that there may be blog posts that will refute this study. I don’t
know, all I know is from my personal experience my videos have shown up
consistently on the front page of Google, Google video search results and in
YouTube search results. Since Google also owns YouTube I would suggest
incorporating video in your website and including it as part of your social media
marketing campaign.
Sprinkle in the pieces of business after you've really built up a
community that supports what you do. Don't worry constantly about views and
subscribers the people will come if you continue to create great content.
YouTube is one of the few places where the “build it and they will come strategy
does work” with a plan of intention. You still must have quality content and at
least do the basics to optimize your channel and videos.
UPDATE
You have to be sure that you are speaking to your audience. Find out
what topics interest them and create videos that will attract them. Go to forums
and find out what questions they have and do it through video. YouTube will
give you a limit of 5000 contacts yet you can still add more yet you simply will
be unable to see the list. Big tip: YouTube will only allow you to add 100
contacts per day. Manually add contacts at
https://www.youtube.com/address_book and if you want to automate your
YouTube Marketing you can use a site like TubeAssist. With TubeAssist you
can drive targeted traffic to your channel and videos through campaigns. Using
it you can add contacts, subscribe to channels and share videos. Now I do not
“sub for sub” and I just don’t recommend it. There is a cost for this service and
you can sigh up for this service here.
COMMENTS
One of my favorite things to do is to connect with my viewers and
subscribers through the comments. If a viewer takes the time to leave a comment
I take the time to respond. I don’t have the time to respond every single day to
every comment yet I will take the time to respond when I can. This is important
and it increases the likelihood that viewers will leave comments on your videos.
Big Tip: Turn off the private message function. This will encourage your
viewers and subscribers to leave a comment or ask a question on the video and
you can serve many more viewers this way.
A few of the simple things that I do include:
*Asking questions
*Thanking them for watching the video
*Responding to a question or comment
*Providing thoughtful input
*Complimenting an avatar
*Add the commenter as a contact
*From time to time I visit my older videos and leave responses too.

I know you might be thinking, “What are you going to do when you have
1000 comments?” Well, I suppose it will be more difficult yet I remember when
I only had 2-3 comments on a video and now some videos have over 100! If you
take the time now to respond you will build up your community and then if it
becomes overwhelming you can create videos that answer the questions. I often
use the voice prompt feature on my MacBook or Siri to respond.
Here are a few tips that you can use:
*Pick one day a week and set a timer for 1 hour to respond to comments
*Use a voice dictation to respond
*Use keywords from your video title in the response
*Respond to all the comments on a video at one time
*If a video doesn’t have comments, leave a thoughtful comment thanking
viewers for watching
If you actively engage with your audience through your channel, it will
pay off in the long run. According to the YouTube playbook “An engaged
community of viewers often leads to a loyal following. Your fans will become
your social army – empower them to you’re your brand and they will be your
best promoters.” Big Tip: If your videos do not have comments, be the first to
leave one. Add something from the video that you may have left out or realized
after you recorded it. Remember YouTube is all about connecting.
Update
Since the first edition of this book there has been an integration between
YouTube and Google+. The implementation was an absolute mess and there are
hundreds of videos you can from unhappy YouTuber’s and viewers. The bottom
line is it doesn’t matter what you or I think. It’s Google’s playground and if you
want to win you better play. Your Google+ page is created automatically from
your YouTube channel and now instead of notifications from your inbox they
come from Google+.
You’ll have a bell in the upper right hand corner of your page and when
you select it you will see all of your notifications. You can choose to respond
via Google+ or YouTube. I typically go to the videos and respond using
Google+. Now here is the great part about the integration – your video and
comments are shared automatically on your Google+ page and you can now use
hyperlinks in your comments.
Here is the challenging part to the integration – it is confusing, you are
“forced” to have a Google+ account, you can not go back and respond to old
YouTube comments and people my spam your page with links to their products,
services and social media sites. I have a video where I discuss the changes
further at Google+ Comments, What They Mean and What You NEED to know
about Changes to YouTube Comments
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Market and share your videos on various social media platforms and use
different strategies to increase views.
- YouTube is one of the few places where the “build it and they will come”
strategy does work.
- Engage and connect with your viewers and subscribers through the comments.
- Visit old videos and leave a comment at the top so that new viewers can see
that you do comment back.
- If you have a video that does not have any comments, be the first to leave a
comment on the video and simply answer questions that you may have left out.
- If you want to win play on the playground.
CHAPTER 10: HOW TO AVOID A COPYRIGHT STRIKE
Remember that all of your videos on YouTube will remain there forever.
That is unless your account is deleted because of copyright infringement or
infractions. We want to stay far away from infractions! Make sure that you only
use royalty-free music and that you never use videos that belong to someone
else’s channel. I received my first copyright strike in May 2013.
I created a video that included part of my wedding video from my
husband’s YouTube channel as anniversary surprise. It was removed due to a
copyright claim and I received a notice that my account was "not in a good
standing." Because my account is not in good standing I am unable to unlist
videos (making them viewable only by people that have the link to the video),
include external annotations, have unlimited uploads or host live events for 6
months from the date of the copyright notice.

Although my husband and I emailed and faxed YouTube the copyright

strike was not removed. I would encourage you to visit the Copyright Center on
YouTube and make sure that you understand which types of work are subject to
copyright and how to use the copyright protected work without infringement.
According to the Copyright Center on YouTube “In some circumstances,
it is possible to use a copyright protected work without infringing the owner’s
copyright. For more about this, you may wish to learn about fair use. It is
important to note that your video can still be affected by a claim of copyright
infringement, even if you have...
*Given credit to the copyright owner
*Refrained from monetizing the infringing video
*Noticed similar videos that appear on YouTube
*Purchased the content on iTunes, a CD, or DVD
*Recorded the content yourself from TV, a movie theater, or the radio
*Stated that “no copyright infringement is intended” If a video was uploaded
with your image by a friend or someone else without your permission and you
feel it violates your privacy or safety, you may wish to file a privacy complaint.
I only use royalty-free music in my videos and you can find a few
royalty-free tracks at Incompetech or by a Google search of “royalty free
music.” Some of the videos and playlists that I created are located in the bonus
video section in the appendix. I encourage you to look at the videos and to also
view the videos online. If you have the “external annotation” feature enabled on
your account, use it to direct traffic back to your website or opt-in offer.
As you are starting off on YouTube you may have made the same
mistakes I did or you might be making the same mistake now. It's okay!
YouTube is a fantastic place to go back and do some amazing updates to the
titles, descriptions and tags that you'll learn later on in this book.
UPDATE
I beat the copyright infringement! It took nearly 6 months yet I won. My account
is finally back in “good standing” and I can do all of the features you see below.
The best part about “good standing” is the opportunity to include external
annotations in your videos. This feature lets you link annotations to external
sites or merch partners. I believe that if you follow the information I provide in
this book you will be able to use this feature to your advantage and grow your
email list outside of YouTube. You simply need to verify your domain and the
external link will go directly to your page. I use it from time to time to direct my
audience to a hidden page on my site that is an opt-in offer for my Video
Marketing for Profits course. I can tell you that at this juncture in my business I
am more concerned about building my list than enabling Google Adsense. I
highly recommend that you take advantage of this feature and direct your
subscribers to your list building page on your site. Learn exactly how to do it at
https://support.google.com/youtube/topic/2795929?hl=en.
Another great way to reinforce branding is through InVideo
Programming. Using this feature you can add a custom watermark image and
even feature one of your videos or playlists across all of your videos. Use
everything that YouTube gives to you to your advantage to gain subscribers,
build your community and increase your views. Enable InVideo Programming
at https://www.youtube.com/account_featured_programming
Finally since the first publication YouTube has added Creation Tools that
include an audio library and a video editor. This is fantastic because now you
can download background music for your videos for free. The video editor is
fantastic to use if you don’t have an editing program such as iMovie, Window
Movie Maker, Final Cut or Adobe After Effects. You can add text, audio and
even combine videos and create a montage. Access the creation tools from your
additional channel settings. Here is a quick link
https://www.youtube.com/features and remember that the “Creation Tools” from
the sidebar.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Never use content that you do not own or have permission to use.
- Always use royalty-free music.
- Submit a privacy complaint if someone uploaded an image or video of you
without your permission.
- Enable the external annotation and InVideo Programming features.
CHAPTER 11: THROUGH THE YEARS (2010)
On January 1, 2010, I recorded and uploaded four videos all on the same
day.

Now, I would not encourage you to do that. Now that I have been on YouTube
for a number of years’ I would suggest using the “scheduling” option and
uploading the videos at least one week apart. I was just so excited with my
YouTube journey and I couldn't wait to share.
By 2010 I had over 132 videos and over 8 hours of video uploaded to
YouTube. I had found my “sweet spot” on Social Media! I finally found a place
where I could share and was building a community that was simply amazing.
There were days when I couldn't wait to turn on my camera.
In the month of July I created a video every single day that shared my
life experiences and my family.
I also started a business in 2010 because of a lot of the sharing that I did through
YouTube. Organic Life Products was born. This was a company that I began at
a Flea Market and within 20 days I made over $12,000! I was selling natural,
organic products to pregnant women that were walking by smoking a cigarette
and pregnant. It was crazy! I would then come home and share my experiences
with my viewers and subscribers. I was creating my very own reality TV show
and it felt amazing!

I started my first group on YouTube that was an accountability circle and

a few ladies and I got together for a year and we shared all of our ideas and we
held each other accountable. My videos ranged from everything about creating
product “how to’s” and still sharing my message with the world. I was still
making mistakes with my videos and I didn't know how to build traffic, create an
opt-in offer, build a list or even how to use my comments for future eBooks or
special reports.
YouTube is an absolute gold mine and I had been in the mine for years
and hadn’t realized it. The worst part is that I also had engagement yet I never
took the information seriously and built any kind of list. If you are in business it
is essential to be intentional with your videos and if you're not in business I still
want to encourage you not to make the same mistakes that I made with my
YouTube channel.
YouTube is one of the best platforms to use to introduce video marketing
into your business. One of the best ways is to create how-to videos and to share
your story with the world. My channel started with a simple idea in 2009 and a
story that I wanted to share with the world about being a single parent. I
continued to share what I was doing, when I was at the flea market building my
business, when I was creating the products and essentially I built a story and
created a business that began to thrive online.
I also started an amazing challenge on YouTube in 2010 that is known
everywhere online as the 52-week financial challenge or 52-week money
challenge. I created that challenge in 2010 after my husband and I were talking
in the car he was telling me about an idea that he had about saving money. I
took the idea into execution and the 52-week financial challenge was born!

I had thousands of people that enrolled in one simple challenge to save

money all because I asked one question. The 52-week financial challenge which
now has hundreds of thousands of people that participate each year where each
and every day where each week you say one dollar the first week $10 the second
week $30 the third week by the end the year by the end of the year you have
$1378 saved. I then took that idea and introduced the idea to my subscribers and
over 3 years later hundreds of thousands of people joined the 52-week financial
challenge! I will include a simple chart in the appendix so that you can join the
challenge too.
By the end of 2010 I increased my subscribers to a few thousand and had
a few hundred thousand views on videos. I also built a company and I shared my
life online with many people. I was not regularly advertising my business and
unbeknownst to me, I was just leaving my business to chance. There were times
when I would mention the business and products in the videos yet I was never
intentional about building a list or driving traffic back to my site.
One of my favorite videos in 2010 is “How to Start a Nonprofit
Organization, Mission, Vision, Goals and Purpose” and it currently ranks #1 in
the YouTube search engine results for the keyword “nonprofit” and #1 in the
Google search engine results for the long tail keyword “how to start a
nonprofit.”

This is important because if you are creating videos about that inspire,
educate and share then you want your ideal client to be able to find them and
find you. No matter how amazing your content is, it doesn’t matter if no one
can find your video or channel. Pay attention to the titles that capture your
attention and make sure that you do your research before publishing your video
for keyword optimization
When you find a niche within YouTube that works continue to go with it.
People also like hands on videos. Make sure that in business you are integrating
video marketing into your business as a strategy. Whether it's instructional or
showing your client how to do something, people like the personal detail.
I would get hundreds of messages a week from people that wanted to buy
my products or wanted some type of business or personal advice and simply did
not create a way to follow-up with them at a later date. I spent countless hours
responding to every personal message I would receive in my YouTube message
box. Little did I know that I could have been answering the questions via video
and helping others in the process.
I also participated in my first you to challenge where everything all day
in the month of July I created a video is one of those videos was something new
it was a great experience to really get me thinking of what to say what to do each
day. The best thing about YouTube is your video and channel views will
continue to grow as will your subscribers. By the end of 2010 I had 132 videos
and over eight hours of content. I want to encourage you to get started now! By
the end of 2010, I had more than doubled the videos, views and subscribers from
what I started in 2009.
*Update*
Be sure to add channel keywords. These are keywords specific to your
channel, topics and videos. You can update your channel keywords at
https://www.youtube.com/advanced_settings. Don’t skip this feature and
currently I have 8 long tail keywords in my channel information. Separate them
by a comma and once you save the update YouTube will add quotations.
Google Keyword Tool has been replaced by Keyword Planner the
strategies to get to #1 will still work for you. Be sure to do your keyword
research and a few options are below. I do use Ubersuggest and I also use a tool
called FreshKey that is an application I downloaded directly to my Mac.

On older videos that gave advice I have gone back and responded to
older comments and added additional information for ways that my viewers can
contact me through a site Clarity.fm. It’s a great way to let your new viewers
know that you are available and you can grow an income stream. For the [How
to] Start a NonProfit Organization, Mission, Vision, Goals and Purpose I use this
statement
“I'd love to connect with you and answer any further questions you have. It is just $1 a minute
and you can book a time with me at http://www.clarity.fm/MontinaPortis or Use my Clarity promo code,
15ba6, and get $20 off your first Clarity call. Redeem it at https://clarity.fm/invite/15ba6/t”
It’s a great way to connect and take advantage of the Google+
integration. Some viewers will want to connect with you more and I believe that
it is important to guard your time and treat your business as a business. There is
a time and place for free yet if your video gives them general information and
they require more then consider using clarity.
Another site you can use is http://popexpert.com/montinaportis and
http://helpouts.google.com. If you are having a problem providing people an
opportunity to invest in your time and services connect with me for 10 minutes
on https://clarity.fm/montinaportis and let me help you shift that poverty
mindset. It will be the best $10 investment you ever made. Big tip: Do not go
all over YouTube spamming other channels with your links! Seriously stay
away from being a spammer and getting banned. Build your own tribe and
create your own content. Remember that the seeds you plant are the harvest
you reap.

CHAPTER 12: THROUGH THE YEARS (2011)

By the time 2011 ended I had over 100 videos on YouTube and I continued
to share information, create how-to videos and share more of my life in this new
world. I created the 52-week financial challenge and had thousands of people
that enrolled in one simple challenge to save money all because I asked one
question. I was becoming a YouTube pro and I didn’t even know it.
My company was growing and so were my views, subscribers and my
expertise. I created an opportunity within my business for consultants to join,
sales for products began to come in and I was still sharing information without
any real focus or call to action.
2011 proved to be an interesting YouTube year. Many people stay away
from religion and politics yet this was my "call to Jesus" year. This is the year
that I went to my very first Joyce Meyer conference and while sharing that
experience I was just extremely open about my viewpoint and how I felt about
God. I'm sharing this with you because as you are starting to build your channel
and building traffic to your website in your email list you may want to directly
focus your channel on a specific niche and stay clear of politics and religion.
There are people that teach you to stay far away from religion and
politics and treat YouTube and your video marketing efforts like a complete
business and tend to want you to focus only on the business side. This book is
different because you may not have a business and maybe you’re not even
interested in starting one. You may just be a person with feelings, viewpoints
opinions and a voice that needs to be heard.
Share your message with the world! Shout it from the rooftops and
record that video! Most important learn how to get it viewed and create an
amazing subscriber base. What sense does it make to keep creating videos that
no one can find and watch?
I want to let you know that I believe it is okay to be yourself online so
that you can share your messages. If you have a business remember that people
do business with people they know, like and trust. My hair is not perfect every
single time, my make-up is not applied every single time and I don’t always
create videos when my home is completely quiet.
One day I recorded a video and didn’t realize until afterwards that my
son was peaking into the room. Instead of deleting the video, I uploaded it and
used graphics to point him out. I created an edutaining video and I didn’t even
know it! Rather than hide your family or make them be quiet, learn to respect
them and be patient. Never make it seem like recording a video is more
important than your family. Instead of searching for balance, seek harmony and
create a peaceful environment.
When I record I simply let my family know and ask them to be respectful
and as soon as I am done I make an announcement to let them know I’m done
recording. If you have small children that might be disruptive then considering
making videos while they are with a sitter or asleep so it is quiet. Big Tip: Turn
off the television, turn down the radio and calm crying babies or agitated
animals (barking dog) before recording. The sounds can be annoying. If it
happens, stop your video go calm them and then start back with the recording.
Your viewers and subscribers will appreciate the consideration and your family
will too.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Share your message of hope, inspiration and encouragement with the world.
- Remember that people do business with people they know, like and trust.
- Be authentic online.
CHAPTER 13: HOW TO BE AUTHENTIC ONLINE
When I took my very first course about video traffic and marketing I
quickly realized that I did not want to follow all of the "rules" included in the
course. In fact, when I signed up for the academy I had more YouTube
subscribers than the instructor yet I heard a new term that I had never thought
much about “drive traffic.” The instructor encouraged each student to write a
script and use a teleprompter when recording the videos. All of the videos were
scripted and really focused only on business.
I find this approach just a bit contriving and decided to go against it and
continue using what was working for me and focusing more on research,
developing better headlines and adding in more tags. Viewers and subscribers on
YouTube are savvy and do not like to be deceived. If you're using YouTube as
the only vehicle for business purposes then you can see from the illustrations
that are included in chapter 2 it just won't work.
YouTube is not an effective strategy to use 100% for business on your
channel. If you want to use video marketing 100% for your business there are
several ways to use videos to market that I explain in a free 7-Step Beginner's
Class to Video Marketing for Business that I created. You can use the videos to
explain your products, create tutorials and so much more.
The #1 question I get about YouTube is “Are people really making
money from YouTube?” Yes! There are thousands of people on YouTube
making an income from creating videos and using an effective video marketing
strategy. According to Social Blade, there are thousands of YouTuber’s making
money from their channels and with hard work, dedication and commitment you
could too! It may look easy yet it is not. I have over 250 videos uploaded on
YouTube and that means that I have discussed over 250 topics.
Here are just a few of the channels making money from their channels:
*The SMOSH (#1 ranked channel on YouTube) Channel has 9,862,491
subscribers with estimated earnings of $1.7k-$16.3K/day and $635.6k-$5.9M/yr.
*The Sxephil channel has 2,566,678 subscribers with estimated earnings of
$398-$3.7K/day and $145.3K-$1.4M/yr.
*The TimothyDeLaGhetto2 channel has 1,831,923 subscribers with estimated
earning of $134-$1.2K day
*Stats and earnings are estimates only at the date of publication
According to the Online Publishers Association, 80% of Internet users
recall watching a video ad on a website they visited in the past 30 days. It gets
even better. Of that 80%, 46% took some action after viewing the ad. In fact:
*26% looked for more information about the subject of the video
*22% visited the website named in the ad
*15% visited the company represented in the video ad
*12% purchased the specific product featured in the ad
64% of visitors are more likely to buy a product on an online retail site after
watching a video. In addition, visitors who view videos stay on the site an
average of 2 minutes longer than those who don’t view videos, comScore says.
Even more reason to use video marketing in your business, on your website and
on your blog.
I want to encourage you to be who you are online and reflect that through
your videos. By doing this you will attract your ideal client, your business will
grow, and you can be the amazing person that God created you to be. 2011 was
the first time that I used the strategy for gathering email addresses through a
survey in my video “How to Get Promoted, Advance Your Career and Make
More Money.”

One of the things I found out by accident on YouTube is that it will help
you to find out more about yourself. YouTube reveals so much about your life
and it's a fantastic place to store your life memories on video. 2011 was a tough
year in my life and I only recorded 21 videos in one hour and 46 minutes of
content. When I go back and reflect on the videos it was a transition and move
from the state I was leaving after 10 years in Florida and my move to Georgia.
Even if you're going through a tough time, I want to encourage you to be
consistent with your video uploads. Consistent uploads are extremely important
for your views, engagement and subscribers. If you go too long without
uploading a video you risk losing your subscribers and traffic to your channel
and website.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Just because you aren’t making money online doesn’t mean that no one else is.
Stop thinking so hard and start creating videos.
- Create videos that can be found.
- Use video marketing in your business, on your website and on your blog.
- Consistently upload videos to your channel.
- Move from average to awesome by taking action!
CHAPTER 14: THROUGH THE YEARS (2012)

By the time 2012 came along I had hundreds of videos and had made nearly
$25,000 in sales with my company Organic Life Products. I was still working
full time and teaching people online how to excel in their fulltime jobs. It really
wasn’t until 2013 when I discovered the biggest mistake that people make on
YouTube.
Now unlike you I had no idea about keywords, optimization, consistency,
titles, tags… I was just simply making YouTube videos for fun, sharing my life,
sharing my business endeavors, and sharing amazing memories with my viewers
and subscribers. Little did I know that while I was creating videos each year
while at events like Dani Johnson’s First Steps to Success and Joyce Meyer’s
yearly Women’s Conferences I was showcasing how much I had grown as an
individual. I ended 2012 with 32 videos and 3 hours of content to end the year.
Do you have a difficult time moving forward in life? Are you still in the
same place you were this time last year? Do you constantly talk about starting
that business, losing weight, growing stronger spiritually or strengthening your
relationships? YouTube will help you with forward progression. You will be
able to see how you have grown over the years and not just physically either.
It is very difficult to stay stagnant in life when you are sharing your
goals, dreams and ideas with others. You’ll find that you will accomplish more;
you’ll have thousands or perhaps millions of accountability partners one day.
Over the years I have watched dozens of YouTubers’ create businesses, sign
record deals, author books and grow companies all from scratch.
Including videos as a part of your life will help you see your growth in
your life over the years. As I look back on videos and reflect on my life I can see
how I've grown as an individual, as a mother, in my business and as a friend.
Building memories is extremely important and it is certainly a great way to grow
your business!
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Implement videos marketing into your life and business marketing efforts.
- Build memories and leave a lasting imprint online using YouTube.
CHAPTER 15: HOW I DISCOVERED THE NUMBER ONE MISTAKE PEOPLE MAKE ON
YOUTUBE (2013)

In 2013, I was in the zone! I was full of passion and I began creating more
and more videos. From 2009-2012 I was not intentional with my videos or
asking for a specific call to action to build traffic and get my viewers on my
email list. Somehow I separated my “YouTube world” with my “real world” that
included my business, Facebook and seeing my YouTube viewers as my ideal
clients. There were a few times when I had a special offer that I wanted to give
to my subscribers and I would include it in my video that was later after I created
a certain product or service.
The problem with offering something through an annotation or embedded
text in the video or even adding it to the about/description box later is that the
viewers and subscribers had already viewed the video and weren’t likely to come
back. I basically lost an opportunity to capture their information and tell them
about any new product or service or even a life-changing event that happened
through email. The only way that I could communicate with my subscribers was
through YouTube. Do you now see the #1 mistake that people make and how I
was making it over the course of four years?
I simply was not making a decision to ask my YouTube subscribers for their
email addresses yet my YouTube audience was my ideal client! Over the course
of four years I managed to build a community. As you can see from the graph
below I clearly had engagement, comments, shares and over 7000 favorites
from the videos that I posted one YouTube. Clearly something amazing was
going on and I didn’t even know it.

In December 2012 I invested in a business coach that helped me to

understand how important it was to maximize every single Social Media
platform that I was on. By the end of 2012 I had grown a little frustrated with
the results from my company, Organic Life Products, and felt like I was
overworking for very little profit in return. I decided to focus more of my
endeavors on coaching part-time entrepreneurs how to achieve fulltime success.
This one decision and simple investment made me look at every single social
media platform that I was a part of and ask a major question.
WHY?
*Why did I have over 250 videos on YouTube?
*Why did I create so many videos on YouTube and very seldom included a call to
action?
*Why was I so consistent and continuing to get the results that I did what was
my intention?
*How could I maximize this amazing opportunity and build a list and market to
my ideal client?
There was not one day that went by after I began Organic Life Products that
someone didn’t ask me a question based on how I started my business and how I
managed to continue to work fulltime. So many people asked that I created a
video in November 2011 and it was really based on one teaching people how to
be employeepreneurs, advance their careers and make more money. I had a
dream to see people financially free way before I started teaching people how to
do it. Big tip: When people ask you questions, create videos that answer those
questions!
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Build an email list using YouTube.
- Create videos that answer questions.
- Why are you creating videos? What do you want to share?
CHAPTER 16: THE TURNAROUND AND HOW TO PRODUCE HIGH QUALITY VIDEOS
The investment I made in an online business coach significantly changed
the way I viewed my business and my YouTube channel. This investment gave
me an opportunity to really examine what I was doing online, and find out how I
could maximize the platforms where I already had a strong presence. This one
simple decision made me truly think about why I was creating videos, the
messages I wanted to share and how I could help and serve others.
I began thinking, “How will this video help the viewers?” “What’s the
benefit for them?” How will it solve their problems and make their lives
easier?” I took time to examine my analytics and examine the top 10 videos that
were being viewed on my channel. Little did I know that this one decision was
going to give me an opportunity to maximize my profits and minimize my time.
From 2009 until the end of 2012 I recorded with my Logitech WebCam
or my MacBook camera. My videos were not high quality at all and I didn’t have
a green screen and I hardly ever worried about lighting. I just turned on my
computer switched on my WebCam and pretty much hit go. In December 2012 I
invested in a new camera and it proved to be an amazing investment for my
videos. I now use a Canon SX30 PowerShot and it has provided better quality
and easier editing for my videos. I have also used my iPhone 4 to record and the
video quality is amazing.
You may not have the extra money to invest in a new camera - yet. I
would strongly suggest that you invest in a camera that will get you the best
results in the price range you can afford. I recorded videos on my MacBook
from 2011-2012 without any problem. From time-to-time I use my iPad mini to
record and many people I know use their smartphones as well. Don’t allow the
excuse of “bad equipment” stop you from creating a video. You don’t need a
$300 camera to start. You can achieve results with a simple point and shoot on
your smartphone or tablet. Just set a goal and save your money.
I do suggest that you invest eventually in a camera that will give you the
clearest results and a tripod too. There are many smartphone stands and
attachments for the tripod. They range in price from $3-$7 and will help you
have better videos that are not shaky. It’s amazing how tired your arm can get
when holding out even a 4-ounce device. You can find many from Amazon,
eBay or Craigslist. Make the investment that will give you a camera that creates
videos so that your videos and audio match and there is clarity too. Use the
search terms “smartphone stand” or “tripod stand” in eBay.
I also invested in a green screen, seamless paper and light boxes in
December 2012. Again, if you want higher quality videos, focus on getting the
basics in order first. The editing software I use is iMovie or ScreenFlow and in
the past I have used Camtasia and Windows Movie Maker. You can find very
simple free editing tools via a simple Google search. Some that I know of are
http://screencast-o-matic.com and join.me. You can also edit videos directly on
YouTube as well using the YouTube trim feature.
Just because you are an amateur doesn’t mean that your videos need to
scream that to the world. You can also create videos using PowerPoint or
Keynote until you get a camera and use a microphone to do a voiceover. I have
several microphones that I use including a Blue Snowball, Plantronics headset
and my iPhone headphones. All of them give me fantastic clarity and I always
get compliments on the videos. So if you are too shy to get in front of the
camera you can simply record your screen and do the voiceover until your
confidence is built up.
From 2009 until 2012 I recorded over 236 videos! I shared my life,
wedding, memories, family, children, business; everything was now public
information on YouTube! Now please don't get paralyzed with that number and
don't compare yourself with the number either. We are all designed to be strong
in certain areas and I simply found my sweet spot. I want to encourage you to
create videos, create content, and just be yourself online.
Again this is not the business book on how to make your first million on
YouTube. This is a book about the #1 mistake people make on YouTube and how
you can use it to your advantage. Even if you're not in business you still can use
this information to succeed, build a brand, get more views & subscribes and
make money online.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Think about the videos that you create and how they will help others, solve
problems and make their lives easier.
- Invest in a camera and a camera stand. The investment does not have to be
$300 – it can be simple. The stand is necessary too! Shaky videos make viewers
dizzy and are best used for vlogs – not your “how to” tutorials.
- Just because you are an amateur doesn’t mean that your videos need to scream
that to the world.
CHAPTER 17: HOW TO USE YOUTUBE TO CREATE AND GROW A PASSIVE INCOME
STREAM
Five months into 2013 I already had 80 videos recorded and over 8 hours
of content. I joined a CreativeLive session and learned one simple strategy that
helped me to identify the best title and tags for my videos. For the first time I
understood the importance of using keyword tools to optimize my title,
descriptions and tags using search tools.
I began researching for keywords and including keywords in my titles.
YouTube and Google have free tools that will help you gain more views and
build more traffic back to your website. Use them every time you upload a
video and go back and check your current titles, description boxes and tags for
keyword optimization. Also consider investing in copywriting books and
courses. Headlines are as important for videos as they are for writing copy.
Even with making headlines that weren’t researched I was still making a
few hundred dollars per month on YouTube. I was actually under the impression
that everyone was making money on YouTube through video marketing. It was
money that I simply used to invest into my other businesses.
Although I was making a few hundred dollars on YouTube per month,
after a conversation with a fellow YouTuber “Mohammedabshaun”, I realized
that I could be making more money on my channel. He asked me how many
videos I had monetized and I actually thought I had them all monetized…until I
checked and found out I only had 25 of my 200 videos monetized. One
conversation can change your life!
Not everyone agrees with YouTube monetization and if you’re using
YouTube entirely for business you may want to drive traffic instead of
monetizing your videos. It is entirely up to you. If you’re starting off like I did
sharing a message and could use a few hundred dollars per month and want to
make money from what you're doing make sure that you monetize your videos.
I started making money from my videos the first year.
Creating over 200 videos the last four years also gave me an advantage
when I joined a new teaching platform called you Udemy. I was able to create
amazing presentations, content and deliver information from my practice on
YouTube over the years. Udemy is the world's largest destination for online
courses. Their mission is to democratize education by allowing the world's top
instructors to teach the world. It is a fantastic platform to create a passive income
stream teaching online.
In 2010, 10 Udemy instructors made over $1 million teaching online.
Could you create and market a course using video marketing to share your
content online? I know you could! We all have something to share and the best
part about Udemy is that it is free to join as an Instructor and you could begin
creating content today.
If you want to earn an amazing passive income stream and teach others
what you are passionate about then you definitely want to check out this online
teaching platform. I even created a course “How to Create a Passive Income
Teaching Online” that can help you get started making a passive income stream
on this platform and you can access it and have your course ready in the next 24
hours! So many people have ideas and that’s good, yet ideas will not pay your
bills – execution will.
You may be wondering why I took so much time to explain so much
about my journey on YouTube. I did all of this because you are probably starting
off on YouTube start just like I did. You, too, have a story that you want to tell
the world, you want to help others solve problems, you want to help others
identify their dreams and give hope and you probably don’t realize the power of
YouTube. I talk more about growing a passive income stream in “HOW TO
MAKE MONEY ONLINE: How to Grow a Passive Income in 20 Simple Steps”
and it is available directly on Amazon.
In the next part of this book we will go through specific ways that you
can create an amazing YouTube channel, amazing videos and make sure that you
create videos that people can find so that you can build traffic, build that email
list and definitely be seen as an expert in your niche.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Optimize titles, descriptions and tags using keyword research tools
- Monetize your videos.
- Teach others what you are passionate about online and utilize the Udemy
platform.
- Look for ways outside of YouTube to make money. Use YouTube as a
platform to share and build your brand.
CHAPTER 18: THE #1 MISTAKE REVEALED
So here it is. Did you skip to this chapter? I probably would have! The #1
mistake that that people make on YouTube is that they are failing to build an
email list from the very beginning. Now you may not have a business and you
may not have a website where you can build a list. By making this this mistake
I’m sure it cost me thousands and thousands of dollars as well as thousands and
thousands of amazing people joining my community. How do I know? Because
when I finally put in a call to action for my email list in the “About” section of
my videos in a few short weeks I had nearly 1000 email addresses added to my
email list.
Guess where they all came from? That’s right they all came from YouTube.
This was simply by inserting my email link in the “About” section. I didn’t
place my website address first or direct my subscribers and viewers to my
website. I didn’t even ask for them to leave their emails within my videos. I
simply placed a link in the “About” section and immediately I began to build
email list that was my ideal client.

I chose to strategically place a trackable email link in the “About” section

instead of my website address because I wanted to be strategic in my approach
and I know that most of my subscribers on YouTube want to stay there and
continue watching videos. A simple email link with “Work with Me” or a free
offer was a great way to get something to my subscribers that they wanted.
You can also use an external annotation link at the end of your video that
leads back to your opt-in offer. Simply verify that you are the owner of your
website and activate this feature if you have it available on your channel at
https://www.youtube.com/features. According to YouTube Head of Product for
Creators and Curators Dror Shimshowitz, “It’s a trade-off between taking them
off the site to further engage with them through merchandise and other
opportunities versus having them watch more of their videos.”
Over the years I developed many friendships from YouTube and a fondness
for my subscribers. Yes many of them have become my online friends! Some of
my subscribers I had met in person and I truly can say that my inbox was full of
people that considered me their coach, their bff (best friend for life), their sister
and their mentor in their head.
The site that I like using to create trackable links is bitly.com. You can
save, search, and organize all your links from around the web. Group them into
bundles. Share them with friends. If you don’t want them on your public profile,
just mark them as private. The best reason to use a trackable link is to get real-
time information about who’s clicking your link. So if you’re including a link in
your “About” description box, how do you know if you are gaining traffic from
your channel? You can also create trackable links for each video although this
would be a lot more work to create and track the links.

I absolutely loved communicating with all of my subscribers and viewers

on YouTube and I still wanted to continue that same passion within my
communication yet through email. Now I could reach them beyond video and
also share some of the other platforms where I was connected to such as
Facebook, Twitter and my podcast in iTunes. One simple link has changed my
life, built a list and given me an amazing way to communicate beyond video
with my prospects and ideal clients.
Now I know there are many of you that may not have a list and there may
be some of you that have a small subscriber base. I am giving this information
out because even if you want to grow your list, have a small list or if you were
making YouTube videos you still have an opportunity to grow your list and build
traffic. You can direct this traffic back to your website, Facebook Business page,
Twitter, Pinterest or any other Social Media platform that you may be a part of.
I started my first business on a free site, eCrater, and I know many people
that use Etsy and a number of sites where they are unable to create an opt-in
offer. To learn how to build an email list using YouTube I taught a course “How
to Build an Email List Without a Website” and there is an immediate download
available that you can listen to and view along with a worksheet.
It is very important to create a compelling opt-in offer. I currently use a
free 7-Step Beginner’s Class and a 3-minute video is delivered daily to their
inbox for 7 days. I have also used infographs too for an opt-in offer. You must
give people a reason to want to give you their email address. A simple Google
search for “opt-in offer” will help or you can read more about it on my website.
Just don’t miss this step!
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Build an email list on YouTube starting today.
- Place a trackable email link in the “About” section that leads back to your opt-
in form.
- Use an external annotation to link back to your website or opt-in offer.
- Create a compelling opt-in offer.
CHAPTER 19: HOW TO USE THE ABOUT SECTION TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
YouTube is the 2 largest search engine after Google. Over 800 million
nd

unique visitors visit YouTube each month, while over 4 billion hours of video
are being watched each month. You have an amazing opportunity to connect and
build a community and drive traffic to your website and build that email list.
YouTube has an about section where you can fit 5000 characters in this
section where people can find you, connect with you and you can use optimized
keywords and descriptions for content that can build search traffic, video views
and traffic which can ultimately result in subscribers to your channel. Think of
this space as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) heaven. Add keywords, an
article, a blog post and all other relevant information about your video and
potential search items.
If someone is searching for a particular phrase or word your video has a
better chance at coming up in top results. I have also heard that the Google
algorithms work better when you use more unique keywords in your title,
description and tags. Since I don’t work for Google I can’t confirm this as true.
All I know is search engines see the keywords in your description meta-tags and
you want to optimize that space!
Since YouTube is the world’s 2 largest search engine you want to optimize
nd

your video to take advantage of this fact! YouTube highlights the search phrase
in the first sentence of your description also so make sure that you have included
the keywords in the first sentence of your description. Remember, you are on
you are on YouTube to share, inspire, have fun, educate and lead people. By
optimizing your video title, description, tags and file you will have an advantage
over other videos and an opportunity to get more views and build an email list
with your ideal client. Do not miss out on this opportunity!
Someone recently asked me if this was important because they don’t have a
business right now. Yes it is! I had a nonprofit yet had never even thought of a
forprofit business. Even if you decide to grow a business later if you don’t start
now you will miss out on hundreds or possibly thousands of emails available
with this opportunity. Plus, remember you can upload videos for free and that
means free advertising for your business. Include a call to action and you will
see your traffic and list grow.
Think of it this way, even if you only use their email to build up a list of
people that think like you, a simple mastermind group, or just have new friends,
this is a still an amazing opportunity to add people that are already interested in
what you have to say to your email list. Remember if they don’t want to give you
their email address then they won’t. It is completely up to them.
I know you might be thinking “I want to know how to make money ON
YouTube” not through an opt-in offer. Well you can monetize your channel and
start making money through AdSense. Think of your email list as a branch that
is on your money tree. Use it as a funnel for your products, services,
merchandise and information products. The treasure is really in the email list and
it doesn’t cost to build it using a free service such as MailChimp. If you don’t
have a website I have a course that teaches exactly how to build an email list
without a website, forward domains and create subdomains. No excuses
allowed! You can enroll in the course on Udemy.
According to an article posted by Carly Lanning on New Media Rockstars
“…becoming one of the top creators on YouTube takes consistency, a nonstop
work schedule and a growing audience that have chosen to spend their valuable
time watching your videos instead of the millions of others found on YouTube.
But the rise to million-dollar salaries has taken all of these creators years to
generate through their video-making hard work.” There are channel creators that
are making hundreds of thousands of dollars per month and you can read more
about them in an article on New Media Rockstars that lists the “Top 25 Earning
Creators’ AdSense Salaries Revealed” in an infographic.
They make money from their channels, sites, advertising and merchandise
and YOU CAN TOO! It doesn't happen overnight and requires a TON of work. I
actually remember when 1 of the YouTuber's in the infographic was starting out.
Always remember: The answers we get come from the questions we ask. Instead
of asking “Are people really making money on YouTube?" Ask how YOU can
make money on and using YouTube video marketing.
*Update*
Go go Social Blade and enter your YouTube channel name. Go to the
categories and select “Future Projections.”
If what you are doing isn’t going to get you where you want to go, do
something different. I don’t worry about Google Adsense because I understand
the value of building a community. I make a few hundred dollars per month and
I’m fine with that because with my products and coaching I make a few
thousand per month. If you have a few thousand subscribers I would also
recommend that you do not review products or services unless your videos are
sponsored. It just doesn’t make sense to get a free product worth $50 and spend
your time reviewing it in a 5-minute video and they get lifetime views. It’s your
channel so don’t be afraid to ask for a monetary investment for your time and
brand.
I also want to encourage you to see the value in building your community
and be sure to engage. Remember that if you keep doing what you’re doing and
you’re not achieving the results that you want then you have to do something
different. You can also use this site to peek on other site stats.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Connect and build a community, drive traffic to your website and build that
email list.
- Use keywords in your title, tags and descriptions and optimize the first
sentence with keywords.
- Include a call to action in the “About” description box.
- Always remember: The answers we get come from the questions we ask.
CHAPTER 20: HOW TO OPTIMIZE THE ABOUT SECTION
The next image that you will see is an example of an “About” section that I
completed in 2010. As you can see I did know just a little bit enough to add
information about how I use black soap. Over the years I began to fill out the
“About” sections because I was doing a lot of tutorials and “how to” videos and
I would get so many additional questions and comments so I began including the
information, recipes and ingredients in the “About” section. I was sharing my
call to action trackable link in the first sentence initially and have since included
it further in the description to take advantage of Google keyword optimization
and YouTube search results. As you learn new tips, strategies and secrets
implement them as quickly as possible in your business and life. The people that
“see” the results are those that take action.
In the next pages, I am going to give you specific information how you can
optimize your “About” section just a little bit more. We are going to optimize
this description and I’m going to give you a basic template on how you can
include all of the necessary information in your description box. I did not
change the title because the video comes up as #1 in the Google search engines
and includes searched keywords and accurately represents the video content.
As you can see below, it ranks #1 on the first page of Google and on a few
other websites that have featured my video as well. I do know that SEO has
changed and Google has been filtering search results and it is understood that
you may not see the same results that I see. I get that and I don’t know, all I
know is I have multiple videos that come up #1 when I search and some that I
am still working on with the SEO that do not have page 1 results.
One of my videos “[How To] Make Your Own Lipstick Tutorial Out of
Crayons - Super Easy!” took several weeks, tweaking and research to rank on
the front page of Google results. My goal is the front page because I am making
videos that I want others to see. What sense does it make to create videos no one
can find? That would be a complete waste of time and if you choose to do that
then just make your videos private and watch them with your family and
friends.
There are some people that will build entire websites based off the content
in your videos. Don’t worry about that and keep moving forward creating
videos. Learn how to simply control what you can control. I would suggest
branding your video with your YouTube channel name or website. You can add
this to the entire video or parts of it. I began doing this when I found websites
that were using my videos for their own personal and financial gain.
You can also control the embedding option within YouTube by not allowing
your videos to be embedded within other websites but again that is your choice.
Just remember that if you disable the embedding option you will also be unable
to use your video on your site as well.
The outlined sites are using my videos on their sites. These sites have
stolen my content and are attempting to generate traffic from my video. The
only video that is actually my information is the second video that links directly
back to my YouTube channel. The only way around this is to brand your videos
with your YouTube name and website address. This is simple to do in most
software editing programs. I edit my videos with ScreenFlow or iMovie and
simply insert text in the bottom right-hand corner of the video.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Optimize the About box with keywords, links to your website and relevant
information from the video.
- Use the 5000 characters available and include a basic template of information
for each video.
- Set a goal to reach the first page of YouTube and Google search results
- Consider branding your video inconspicuously.
CHAPTER 21: HOW TO CREATE ENGAGEMENT
My favorite site for creating a very simple customizable tweet for Twitter is
Click to Tweet.

It works great and whoever clicks on the customized link that you created will
have the message automatically added to their Twitter status box, then they
simply click to tweet! Share this link to view the custom message I created.
CREATE HOW TO VIDEOS
Out of the top 10 videos I have with over 500,000 views “How to” videos
rank the best and create the most likes, comments, favorites and shares. If you
have a business this may be one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site,
products or affiliate links. Many times when we watch a “how to” video they
are willing and able to purchase items based on the emotion that comes from
watching the video and desiring to create their own natural products.
Before I ever created the company I created tutorials, “how to” videos and
sold the products I made before I even set up my first website. In fact I created
the video tutorials because so many people were asking me what I was using in
my hair and on my skin because it was glowing. The videos were really created
because I never wanted to make the products to sell. My intent was never to
create a company yet as you see the company grew to nearly 100 consultants and
over $50,000 in sales in under three years.
Remember that #1 mistake? Well as you can see even though I never had an
intent of growing a company, if I were building an email list I could have at least
had the email addresses of some of the viewers that watched the videos and been
able to communicate with them that I opened up a company to provide all of the
products they need from the videos.
This video still continue to get so many views. See the circle with question
mark inside? This is my view count as using states for popular videos the
counter updated every few hours so I’m still getting a lot of use and I still have
an opportunity to build an email list from this video.

That’s one of the things I like about YouTube. Even if you put the video up
one time and you never go back again, or you start your channel and put up a
few videos, you never lose the views. They continue to grow which is great.
That is why it is extremely important that you have keywords in your title and
your description is complete so that people can find your videos. Your views
will keep growing and growing and growing!
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Create a customizable “tweet” to share your video
- Videos that are uploaded to YouTube continue to gain views and grow –
optimize the title and description with keywords
- Encourage others to share your video
CHAPTER 22: HOW TO GET ONE PAGE GOOGLE RESULTS BY OPTIMIZING
METADATA
The next video description box that we will examine is “How to Create a
Passive Income with the Udemy Affiliate Program. Udemy is the world’s largest
destination for online courses. Udemy is a website that empowers anyone to
teach and learn online and there are thousands of online courses from the best
instructors and the world. This is an excellent platform if have classes that you
would like to teach online.

The metadata that will surround this video is extremely important since
YouTube is the world’s 2 largest search engine. Metadata is the information
nd

that surrounds your video this includes your title, tags, and description. We want
to optimize each video that we upload to take advantage of this fact. The set of
data informs YouTube’s algorithm of the videos content and it is going to assist
with our search indexing, related videos and ad serving. Let’s get started
optimizing this about description.
As you can see from the examples, I optimized the “About” section with
keywords. It is extremely important to optimize all of the allocated space we
have for our title and descriptions.

How would you feel if you knew that every time you created a YouTube
video with your message that you could be on the front page of Google and drive
traffic back to your website or blog? Your message of hope, inspiration for
youth, motivation for single moms or even a message about your business and
products could be found and heard. How great would that feel? You can! It took
me nearly 4 years to figure out how and you don't have to take that long!
Included in the resource pages in the back of the book is a template you
can use to optimize your “About” section. Optimize the first sentence! The first
few lines will appear in the Google search results. Make sure that you use this
space for compelling and descriptive content. Remember this space is important
so include keywords, offer links to subscribe or watch your playlist, information
about your channel and any other helpful information that you believe is
important for your audience.
There will also be a “plug and play” template in the Resource Pages. Use
keywords in the first two sentences of the description and include your template
as well. You want to be sure to optimize the first 1-2 sentences, as they will
appear in search results. Remember to use as many primary and secondary
keyword phrases as you can fit in the description. YouTube allows 5000
characters in the “About” section. This is an excellent place to put a blog post, a
short article or as I displayed in the example below information from my website
about black soap and all of the benefits.
In YouTube you don’t have to worry too much about watering down your
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) by using too many keywords. You want to
use multiple keywords in your videos so that you can get more traffic and views
from YouTube. More traffic, more views and more subscribers means that you
have an opportunity to build your email list and get more traffic back to your
website or your Social Media platform of choice. Use every character available
in your title to maximize the chances of your video being discovered.
Always remember never ever SPAM within the “About” section on
YouTube. Simply put, don’t use keywords that do not describe your video. You
will lose credibility with your subscribers and you could get banned from
YouTube. Include a short description about your video. And additional details or
site an article. Always be sure to give credit to the original source.
Every video that you record, upload and publish will reach new viewers
across the Internet. An optimized description is a great opportunity for you to let
new viewers know about your channel, subscribing or playlists that you have
created. Always remember to include: Links to your subscribe to your channel,
links to related content, links for social media and always use ‘http:// so that
your links turn into hyperlinks for your visitors.
Include information where subscribers and viewers can find you
online.

Include Playlist information. If you don’t have videos in a playlist then create
one. It’s simple to do and you can add additional details to your playlist. Don’t
use someone else’s playlist – use your own. Remember, this is about getting
more views, adding subscribers and directing traffic to your site. Be sure to also
include keywords in your descriptions. Examples of playlist that I created are
below.
This playlist includes videos on how to make natural deodorant, natural lotions,
natural hair cream, and more. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/playlist?

When creating your video titles be sure to be creative. Think of the title
of your video as the headline like a magazine or tagline that will pique the
interest of your potential viewers. Also create a set of standard tags that you
would use on your channel for any video that you publish. These tags should
apply to most of the content that you produce if it is how to work tutorial or
funny video. Using keyword rich metadata that includes relevant information
about the video will give your video an opportunity to rank higher in the Google
and YouTube search engines. Higher rankings can increase your views and
subscribers.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Metadata is the information that surrounds your video this includes your title,
tags, and description – use it.
- Create an About description template.
- Never ever SPAM within the “About” section on YouTube. Simply put, don’t
use keywords that do not describe your video.
CHAPTER 23: HOW TO GET MORE SUBSCRIBERS
One question that I am asked often is “How can I get more subscribers to
my channel?”

My first year I ended with over 52,000 video views and over 600 subscribers and
had no idea what I was doing! All I know is, I talked back to my viewers and
thanked them for watching. I spent time reading the comments, engaging and
including answers to questions that my subscribers would ask. I also mentioned
my subscribers in my videos and did a few video responses to popular topics.
The best way to gain subscribers is to add value, be creative and be
consistent. Listen to your viewers and give them what they want in the best way
possible in the shortest amount of time. Include royalty free music in your
background and make sure it is low. I made a mistake and had it too high in a
video once and the complaints came in. That might sound discouraging yet I
was so happy that my subscribers let me know there was a problem!
If there is a problem with the videos too loud, if someone makes a
comment about the mess on the floor in the background or a messy room
acknowledge it and fix it. Your subscribers are paying attention to you and if
you want to keep them and gain more than you’ll need to listen to their feedback
and create better videos.
What surprised me the most was that even though I uploaded a video that
had loud distracting music I didn’t receive any “dislikes” for the video.
YouTube has a very loyal community and they do pay attention to the message.
Since I fixed the problem they were forgiving and appreciate too. Look at the
responses!
You may
be wondering why I left up the original video. I left the video up because it had
views and comments already that I didn’t want to lose. I also left the video up as
an example of a mistake I made and quickly resolved for my viewers. I wanted
them to see how I communicated and responded to their comments and
concerns.
There was one video that I did in response to a video “I Still Don’t Single
Moms” and to this day it is my least favorite video on YouTube. You might be
wondering why I still have it up and the short answer to that is that it is still
getting views! The video has over 173 comments and I uploaded it in 2009 and I
still get a comment from time to time. There will be videos that you won’t like
and my suggestion to you is to leave them up.
Older videos will show the growth and maturation that has occurred in
your life and channel. You will grow, your life will change and you will look
back at videos and wonder “Why in the world did I record, upload and publish
this?” I will admit that there are a few videos that I have hidden yet out of over
250 videos that number is just 3. Remember that you will evolve and change
and that is a great thing.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
-The best way to gain subscribers is to add value, be creative and be consistent.

- Communicated and respond to your viewers comments and concerns.

- YouTube has a very loyal community and they do pay attention to the message
CHAPTER 24: CONSISTENCY IS KING
You must also be consistent with your uploads especially in the
beginning. Start with a goal of once a week and simply flip on your camera,
record, upload and publish. Be sure that if you have a camera that you have to
hold or a laptop that you’re using that you give yourself a 5 second pause in the
beginning and at the end. Just stare into the camera and speak and at the end just
smile for 5 seconds.
If you don’t have editing software this will give you an opportunity to
trim the video directly on YouTube using the free editing feature. Just by taking
the time to do this simple action your video will be set apart from the garbage
that is out there. You may not have the best camera so use what you have and
make it the best it can be.
If you have “those days” where you just have so much information you
want to share in front of the camera consider recording multiple videos in one
day. I do it all the time! You can record a month of videos in 20-30 minutes.
There are times when I change my top or add a scarf or jacket and other days I
just keep it moving. Keep this in mind and do what works best for you.
There are so many people that will tell you how to do it. I’ve even
noticed a shift online of guru’s telling you what to do and they’re not even doing
what they teach. For example, how can I teach you how to get more views yet
not do what I’m teaching you? I am in the trenches with you. I am a YouTuber
and I create YouTube videos. So, instead of telling you how, I’d like to give you
a template of what has worked for me in the past and how I believe it will help
you to get more views, subscribers, build a list and drive traffic back to your
site. You’ll know what will work best for your channel.
Know who you are, your personal situation and your why. When you are
clear about why you are on YouTube and what message you are sharing you will
be able to stay focused on your journey, channel and be clear about the direction
you want to take. Someone that wanted me to take my channel a different
direction and focus only on health and beauty videos, so that I could market
specific products and affiliate links, recently approached me.
They had this “big idea” for me. They began explaining to how I could
make “so much money” marketing health and beauty products exclusively on
my channel and in front of my community. Sounds promising right? Wrong! I
am very clear on my why and I am not out to create videos that are all about
reviews and marketing. I am not pimping my community! I learned this from a
mistake I once made when someone asked me to do a product review.
I agreed yet when I received the product I found that the product would
not work for me and it was also something that I could never recommend to
others. I had to send the creator a message and tell them that I could not do a
review and send the product back. I could have done a negative review yet I
believe that any advertisement for a business whether positive or negative is still
free advertising to my viewers and it is something I just don’t choose to do.
Also, the person with the “big idea” didn’t even have 50 subscribers. Success
leaves clues…
Personally I do not recommend items I do not personally use. If I do
recommend a product or service I contact the company for an affiliate link or
sponsorship. I do not purposely go out and search for products, I simply talk
about products and if they are amazing – I will recommend them. Over the 4
years’ I have been on YouTube I have only recommended a few products with
affiliate links including a few books from Amazon. You are welcome to
advertise what you want and do what works for you. Just be sure that you are
giving an honest review and inform viewers if you are using an affiliate link.
Always be honest and don’t spam.

CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED

- Give an honest review – don’t give false reviews or feel like you “have” to give
a review for a product you don’t like.
- Any advertisement for a business whether positive or negative is still free
advertising – choose wisely.
- Know who you are, your personal situation and your why.
CHAPTER 25: HOW TO GAIN MORE SUBSCRIBERS AND BE CREATIVE ONLINE
Be careful not to compete or compare what your videos are doing to
others. I am only subscribed to people I actually watch and engage with. If you
compare your new channel to a channel that has been on YouTube for 5 years,
15,000 subscribers and 2 million views you will get discouraged. We are all
beautiful, unique creatures and when we make the mistake of comparing our
lives to others we begin to see a small picture of reality. Stay focused on what
you are doing on your channel and let God do the rest.
Keep your videos 3-5 minutes long unless it is a tutorial and you need to
go a bit longer. I learned by trial and error my first few years on YouTube and
now I continue to keep my videos under 5 minutes when I can. I see so many
people that are new to YouTube creating videos that are sometimes 15-20
minutes long. No one wants to watch you talk for 20 minutes.
If you have not established a strong subscriber base then you are not
going to have high engagement and you will be wasting a lot of time creating
videos that no one is watching. If you do have videos that are longer than 5
minutes create a video series out of them.
Another great way to gain more views and add more subscribers is to
include your family and pets in your videos. I began doing this in 2009 and have
continued and everyone has enjoyed watching the children grow. Advertisers do
it all the time in commercials and your viewers will be able to connect with you
more.
Marlo Man is our family dog and he keeps me company during the day while
I’m working so it is so much fun having him around. Plus, from time to time if
he barks when I’m recording I can add an annotation and link back to a video
he’s in.
Remember it’s about connecting and engaging with your subscribers. If
you want to gain more subscribers include annotations in your video with
specific “calls to action.” Annotations can help increase viewership, engagement
and of course help you to gain more subscribers. Simple annotations that you
include could be additional information about the video, asking the viewers to
subscribe, make areas of the video clickable, and encourage viewers to “like” the
video or leave a comment.
Be creative and just like any great relationship remember to
communicate. There are times when you can let your subscribers know that you
are glad that they are part of your community. Thank them for watching and ask
them to share the video on their social networks. Be careful not to be spammy –
remember the 80/20 rule and why people are on YouTube.
If they want to be bombarded with commercials they would just turn on
the television. Remember why you are on YouTube and what your purpose is
and stay true to who you are and your purpose. YouTube is one of the best
places to attract your ideal client and to attract “haters” too.
I’m not going to spend a lot of time telling you all about the haters and
trolls on YouTube. Haters are everywhere online and you’ll quickly find that
when you have a message, they are right there with their message for the world
through your comment section too. I know that you may be afraid of the haters.
I know that you may think that the haters are going to make fun of you
online, criticize you and harass you. I’ll help you get rid of that worry and
simply state they will! The haters are going to do what they do best – spread
their venomous hate! Do not allow them to bully you online. Spread love,
inspire and when necessary block, remove and move on to the next one.
My favorite videos to make online are “How to” videos. They are fun,
add value and solve problems for viewers. “How to” is also the most searched
phrase on YouTube. If you want more views, you want to strongly focus on
“how to” videos and teach others how to do something. Now you can teach
anything from cooking, creating a home remedy, sewing, make-up, natural hair
and fitness videos. Just make sure that you have unique content and that your
personality comes out. The possibilities are endless!

Don’t worry about what has already been created and what everyone else
is doing or has done. Even after 200 videos recorded, uploaded and published
there are still times when I think “What will ‘they’ say?” running through my
head. I even did a post about it “How to Overcome Your Deepest Fear.”
Worrying about what everyone else has done or what others will think is just a
form of fear that is going to keep you from accomplishing your dreams and
taking action on your ideas to turn them into a reality.
*Update*
I am going to include a recent interaction I had with a recent subscriber.
Even with 15,000 subscribers I still take time to read the comments and
respond. If you are unable to read the comment, please visit the video and
search for the username below.

Stop being afraid of what people will say or do and know that “they” will
hide behind their computer. “They” will say things that hurt. Get over it. Delete
and ban and keep it moving. It’s your channel and just like your house, you
determine whom you will allow in.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Keep your videos 3-5 minutes long unless it is a tutorial and you need to go a
bit longer.
- “How to” is also the most searched phrase on YouTube. If you want more
views, you want to strongly focus on “how to” videos and teach others how to do
something.
CHAPTER 26: HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE
This chapter alone would require me to write another book and that is
exactly what I plan to do. As you saw from the Social Blade statistics it is
possible to make money online and there are YouTube creators doing it. You can
too with a strategic mission. You can use affiliate links in the “About” section,
you can do a “how to” video or tutorial and market a product that you make and
plan to sell.
I strongly suggest using your platform on YouTube to pre-sell products.
Find out if it is a product other people would be interested in before you spend
money making it and in some cases you can even pre-sale the product on
YouTube. You can also use the video as an explainer video for your website,
vision or products and you can even add in a product that can add leads directly
to your email list and include clickable calls-to-action.
Creating and building your list is going to give you an opportunity to
market to people that you have built a rapport with. People do business with
people they know, like and trust. By using YouTube to build your email list you
know that those that have opted in are interested in your message. Even if you
don’t have a product or service to market you have people that are interested in
what you have to say.
You will also have an opportunity to form an online accountability group
or perhaps a face-to-face Meetup group in your city. YouTube is a fantastic
place to integrate video marketing for your business. Forrester Research found
that a single minute of video is worth 1.8 million words!
One simple video that explains your company vision and mission can
save you time so that you can focus on converting your passion into profits! If
you want to learn more and use video marketing in your business than be sure to
sign up for the 7-Step Beginner’s Class to Video Marketing for Business. Video
creates a much more personal connection with your customers and clients and it
is a great way to share messages of hope, change and inspire brand evangelists’.
Specific ways that you can make money online with YouTube include:
Affiliate links, enrolling in the Google AdSense program, advertising products,
teach people how to use a product that you get for free, sell your channel to
advertisers, create a business that sells a product, create tutorials about a product
and then sell it online, provide coaching services, creating a video series or
interview series and so many more.
My husband introduced me to a gentleman who is now one of my
favorite authors, inspirational speakers, teachers and people online - Mr. Eric
Thomas. He is known on YouTube as “etthehiphoppreacher” and he is
PHENOMENAL! You might be wondering why I’m including him in the
“Make Money Online” chapter? Quite frankly, I should have included him in
every chapter! I am including him here because my husband heard about him on
YouTube and he had been creating videos for nearly 5 years before he was
“discovered.” He is now even attributed to the quote “When You Want to
Succeed as Bad As You Want To Breathe.”
Through watching his videos I felt an immediate connection and through
a series of events I had the opportunity of a lifetime. I interviewed Mr. E.T.
LIVE in March 2013. I included the interview with Mr. E.T. on my YouTube
channel and my radio show and could have easily repurposed it as an
Inspirational CD. I wanted to interview him because I could identify with his
story.

He went from a homeless high school dropout to one of the most sought
after motivational speakers in the country. I, too, had a G.E.D. and lived in a
homeless shelter with my 9-month-old daughter in Alliance, OH in 1997. Every
time I heard him speak something inside of me would come alive and leap!
Still to this day I can listen to his messages over and over and over! I
workout to his mixtape and have programmed my iPhone alarm so that I wake
up to his message “Hustle Hard” from his “BluePrint 2 Success” CD. The last
time I checked he still has it available for free on his site so hurry and get your
download of this mixtape too.
Now, I would not recommend selling an interview unless you have
permission from the person you interview first. I do recommend using the
interview to build your list as an opt-in offer and including it on your website.
Tim Ferris speaks specifically about this method in Chapter 9 of “The 4-Hour
Workweek” – Income Autopilot I. You could create an informational product
that could be sold to your markets using your expertise or borrowed expertise.
*Update*
I wrote that book! HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE: How to Grow a
Passive Income in 20 Simple Steps was written with the beginner in mind and
was written for the part-time entrepreneur that wants to grow a passive income
stream yet does not have an enormous amount of resources available due to
work and limited time. These are very simple steps that anyone can use to grow
a passive income stream and I include a few ways to start a passive income
stream too. It is available for immediate download and was ranked as a #1
international bestseller within 48 hours of launching without any free
promotions.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Pre-sell products using YouTube Video Marketing.
- There are multiple ways to make money using YouTube –implement them in
your videos and business.
- Reach out and connect with others on YouTube.
- Consider creating an information product from an interview or your YouTube
videos.
CHAPTER 27: HOW TO BECOME FAMOUS ONLINE
Sunday is my day of rest to disconnect from being the teacher and put my
learning hat on all day long. One particular Sunday I decided I wanted to take
time to watch Social Triggers founder, Derek Halpern’s, YouTube channel. The
“How to Become Famous” video was one that I knew I could use and I took
notes. Derek says that “When you’re seen with someone famous it rubs off on
you.” This is great advice if you want to make money online and have not had
time or an opportunity to build up your own brand recognition. Again, as you’re
using YouTube to build a list there is a snowball effect and you now can market
in so many different ways to your viewers.
Consider doing a book or product review, or tell about your involvement
in personal development or attendance at a personal development seminar. I did
a book review on MJ DeMarco’s “The Millionaire Fastlane,” I did videos about
my experience meeting Dani Johnson who was once a broke, homeless cocktail
waitress turned millionaire in 2 short years at her world renown “First Steps to
Success,” my experience seeing Tony Robbin’s LIVE at “Unleash the Power
Within,” or Joyce Meyer one of my favorite teachers of the Word of God at a
“Women’s Conference.”
One of my favorite experiences was my road trip to Texas with my
daughter to attend Sandi Krakowski’s “Saturday with Sandi” event. Sandi was
chosen as one of Forbes top 50 Social Media Power Influencers in the World as
well as one of the top 20 Women Social Media Influencers and is the author of
“Read Their Minds.” You, too, can use your voice on YouTube to share your life
experiences at events or about the books that have helped reshape, transform and
change your life.
Update
I attended Jim Cockrum’s Consult Expand Sell event in Orlando, FL in
November 2013 and implemented this strategy. Jim is known as the #1 trusted
Internet Marketer and there were also other experts in attendance like Jason and
Cinnamon Miles, creators of Liberty Jane Clothing and the founder of Death
Wish Coffee. I took pictures with dozens of industry leaders uploaded them to
my Instagram with their contact details. You can follow me on Instagram and
locate the posts. Below is a picture of Jim and I. I also invested in Jim’s
mastermind coaching services and now I can call him my partner. This man is
amazing! Get connected to him.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Consider doing a book or product review, or tell about your involvement in
personal development.
- Share your life experiences through video on YouTube.
CHAPTER 28: HOW TO BECOME A YOUTUBE ROCKSTAR
Everyone wants to find his or her “big break” on YouTube. My friend,
YOU just might be the next big star! Yes, I have faith enough to believe that you
can. If you want to make it big then don’t let anyone tear down your dream. I
believe that we should think BIG, dream BIG and believe for the impossible. If
you need help thinking big then read The Magic of Thinking Big by Dr. David
Schwartz. I also believe that achieving the impossible takes work. You must be
willing to do what others are not. You must be willing to improve your videos,
communication and be willing to learn how to edit. Wherever you’re not strong
consider outsourcing and doing whatever it takes to be the best.
You may also want to consider a video marketing niche. When I first
began on YouTube I did a lot of natural hair videos. Many of the YouTuber’s that
I began with stayed in the natural hair niche and they only created videos about
natural hair. Some have more than 100,000 subscribers. I knew that this was not
my ultimate goal so I did add variety to my channel. I chose the organic growth
route and I’m certainly glad that I did. I’m happy with my results and I built an
amazing community and brand evangelists online.
YouTube subscribers are very loyal and you’ll find that they will follow
you on your other Social Media outlets like Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest,
Facebook and Twitter too.

CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED

- YOU just might be the next big star!
- Seek to improve your videos and focus on your strengths.
CHAPTER 29: HOW TO CONNECT WITH OTHER YOUTUBER CHANNEL CREATORS
Did you notice the pictures of the people in the video reel on the book cover?
I’m sure that you realize by now that some of them were videos of me, yet others
were videos of fellow YouTuber’s. I reached out online through various social
media outlets and asked fellow YouTuber’s to complete a questionnaire. The
results from the survey can be downloaded from the private folder I created for
you:
I asked a series of questions and then asked, “What is the #1 question you have
about YouTube?” Questions from the survey are below as are my answers. If
you read the book in its entirety then you probably can answer the questions now
too. Yet, I wanted to provide them specifically here for you as a quick reference.
- How do I get more traffic to my website from YouTube? Create videos
consistently, keep your channel diverse, create “how to” videos and share your
videos on your Social Media platforms.
- Please help me understand how Google monetizing my video is going to
make me any money because I'm not seeing it. Before you can ever see
anything from monetizing your videos you must “see” it. If you don’t even
believe it is possible to do than you never will.
- How do I optimize my site for more traffic? Make sure that you have a
channel page that includes keywords and optimize every video that you upload
with keywords in the title, about box and tags.
- How do you keep people engaged? Answer questions, ask questions
and respond to comments and take time to create thoughtful videos including
“how to” tutorials that viewers want to respond to.
- How can I use it [YouTube] to increase traffic to my site? Use the
“external link” annotation function and include your information in the about
box. Also, consider creating a compelling opt-in offer and ask viewers to visit
your site at the end of your videos.
- How to create the type of videos that convert. Convert into what? Be
specific. Sales, Profits, Leads?
- I'd like to know how to choose an Intro/Outro and how to get a good video
quality without buying a DSLR. You can create a simple intro in
PowerPoint or Keynote just using pictures or Wordle. I created my Intro using
Wordle a few years ago and added music from iMovie jingles on my MacBook.
Or simply outsource your intro/outro creation to Fiverr.com Just search
“YouTube Intro” and select the high rating gigs.
As for the DSLR – at some point you will have to upgrade. Focus on building
your community and start looking online. Lighting is extremely important. If
you don’t have access to a light box use lamps and natural lighting as much as
possible. My husband recently bought a Vivitar on eBay for $20 U.S. dollars
and it the output is 1080p HD and it looks amazing!
- My main goal is to use it to generate traffic to my main site. My #1 question
is how? Or I guess what's the one thing I can do to generate more traffic to my
site using YouTube? If your main goal is to generate traffic then answer the
question “why.” Why do you want to generate traffic to your main site? How do
you want to serve, lead and inspire people? Do you only want to sell them?
Check your motives first. You must “edutain” on YouTube it’s not a selling
platform. It’s a community. Simple things you can do are add an external
annotation link, create a compelling opt-in offer or give away something for free.
- How does Youtube work with my Google account? The accounts are
linked and passwords are synchronized.
- How the search algorithm works so I can optimize my videos for the search
results. If I knew the answer to this I’d be working at Google! It is simple to
optimize the videos. Use keywords in the file name, title, about description box
and tags. Run incoming link campaigns from your website by including the
video on your blog or website and make sure you create quality content.
- How to get more views and subscribers on the channel. Create quality
content, ask question, announce the video on your Social Media outlets and keep
your videos 3-5 minutes in length. Plus you could simply just ask your viewers
to subscribe.
- How can I maximize my audience reach? YouTube is not the “one
stop shop.” Use your video in a blog post, upload it to Facebook, Twitter and
other Social Media Platforms. Just as you would “spin” an article you can
“spin” a video many different ways.
- How to use this platform to reach ideal clients. The “Video Marketing
for Profits” course is ideal for this. Get signed up, it’s free.
- How to grow my channel and create dialogue with the viewers. Upload videos
on a consistent basis and create quality content. Answer comments, questions
and create video responses. Optimize the channel description and videos with
keywords.
- For the people that make money from using YouTube (mainly people without
a personal/business website) what are their secrets/tip to doing so? The
“secret” is consistency, creativity and engagement. They are intentional online
and giving their viewers and subscribers opportunities to do business with them
by offering products, services and affiliate links. They are also providing
direction to their viewers. Make it simple and if you want to provide something
then make it a great offer.
- How do I get my videos to show up on the first page in my topic?
Keywords, Optimization and Engagement. Consider following trends as they
occur too.
- How I can I use it to build my business? The “Video Marketing for
Profits” course is ideal for this. Get signed up, it’s free.

Special Thank you to the following YouTubers’ that completed the survey. Stop
by their channels and subscribe – I’m sure they would appreciate it.

Refuse to look at a fellow YouTuber as a competitor. Instead choose to look at
them as part of your YouTube community and family. Whenever I have a
negative comment, troll or hater they usually come from people that never ever
make videos online. They are simply there to spread their hate. A fellow
YouTuber will help if you just reach out and ask. If you need help, just ask!
A fellow YouTuber will understand your struggle and they will probably
remember when they first started out how difficult it was to get views and
subscribers on YouTube too. There are more people on YouTube that will help
you then hurt you. Remember whatever it is that you focus on or look for you
will attract and find. That’s not just a fact, it’s a law.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- Reach out and connect with other YouTuber’s.
- There are more people on YouTube that will help you then hurt you.
- There is no secret to success. Get out there and do the work. Get creative, take
courses, learn from those that have the results you want and get in the game and
start playing.
CHAPTER 30: THE BOTTOM LINE
There is a small website that I still have up from a video I made in 2010
about natural deodorant – Armpit Candy. I generate a few dozen sales each
month and really have run the company as more of a hobby than an actual
business. My main focus was Organic Life Products and in 2013 I decided to
focus more time and attention on growing my passive income streams and
coaching programs that include video marketing, information products and
teaching part-time entrepreneurs how to create content, build traffic and convert
their passion into profits. All of the businesses that I created, while continuing
to work fulltime, from 2010 to present came from ideas, comments and videos I
created, uploaded and published on YouTube.
You must disclose that you are placing affiliate links, being paid to
promote a product, etc. The best article I have seen that best explains this is by
Sara Hawkins and in the Social Media Examiner article “What Marketers Need
to Know About the New FTC Disclosures.” You can access the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) disclosure online. I am just including this information for
informational purposes only and it is not to be considered legal advice. Please
consult an attorney or accountant for additional details.
There is some information I didn’t include in the first series of the book
like thumbnail selection, thumbnail edits or microphones. We also didn’t cover
what I see in every YouTube strategy book description “What is YouTube?”
Unless you have been hiding under a rock you are probably very familiar with
YouTube. I’ve actually found that most viewers and subscribers are just too
fearful to make videos. I didn’t cover Google AdSense because in order to make
money from ads you have to have videos that produce views. So many people
get caught up in all of the learning that they never do anything and I don’t want
that to be you.
My thumbnails aren’t perfect and I don’t take time with each and every
video to add text to them. I want you to take action and go create videos. I want
you to see that I never created videos cussing, shaking my behind or videos with
scripts. I turned on the laptop or camera, smiled, took a deep breath and pressed
record. There is a step-by-step instructional guide included in the upcoming
pages yet I want you to use it as a reference ONLY. I hope that my story gives
you hope that it can be your story too.
Bottom line is if you take advantage of the #1 mistake people make and
integrate building an email list from the beginning, you will be much further
along in your YouTube journey. Building that email list will give you an
opportunity to market to your ideal client, build friendships, test out products
and drive traffic back to your website. Start early and you, too, can can get more
views & subscribers, build traffic and make money online.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: YOUTUBE SECRETS REVEALED
- You must disclose that you are placing affiliate links, being paid to promote a
product, etc.
- Build an email list and loyal following from the very beginning.
- Take a deep breath, turn on the camera and record that video.

VIDEO TOPICS
I thought long and hard about leaving you a very detailed list of topics that you
could use to create amazing videos. If I provided you with 100 different topics I
would be doing you more of a disservice then a service in this book format.
You see YouTube is all about creativity. It is about your creative expression and
creating videos that are your personality. So what I will do is give you a few
suggestions that can lead you along the way. Don’t worry about what has
already been done. You do it and do it better, just remember to be creative.
* Consider creating a video response to a video that you really like watching
were a tutorial
* Find your favorite video and do your best to re-create it and add your own
personality
* Search for popular trends on Twitter or Google Trends and create a video about
a popular topic
* If you are creative and you know how to make anything homemade like
lotions, food, painting, changing a tire, washing a dog or cat, making your
favorite dish vegan or vegetarian, juicing… the possibilities for “how to” videos
are endless.
Simply create the video and teach other people how to do it. Over time the more
videos that you create you’ll get more comfortable with your community and
being in front of the camera. If you join one of the future 30 Day Video
Challenges there are over 100 topics for you to choose from and private
coaching included for you too. Find out more at 30DayVideoChallenge.com.
