Course Name : Astronomy

Course Unit : 3 units

Course Description : Astronomy is the study of heavens, the realm extending from beyond the earth’s atmosphere to the distant
reaches of the universal science of the universe in which heavenly bodies and their constitutions, positions, motions, and evolutions are
being studied. The emphasis on evolution and characteristics of the major planets, moon and other objects in the solar system.

Number of Hours: 3 hours every week for 8 weeks or 24 hours in a semester

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO): At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
CLO1. Identify the early astronomical instruments used by early astronomers.
CLO2. Recognize the different theories of the origin and end of the Universe.
CLO3. Explain the importance of the Sun, its role in the solar system, how it is formed and how will it die.
CLO4. Explain why there are different seasons in the Earth.
CLO5. Explore the Moon, its features and its role being the satellite of the Earth.
CLO6. Study the different features of planets in the Solar System.
CLO7. Classify Stars based on their color.
CLO8. Identify the updates in Astronomy of the modern times.
