Activity Type Introduction


Reading and writing This demonstrative pronouns worksheet helps students learn and
activity practice how to use 'this', 'that', 'these' and 'those' as pronouns.

Procedure
Language Focus
Give each student a copy of the two-page worksheet.
Demonstrative pronouns
Students begin by reading sentences containing demonstrative
pronouns and writing them in the correct location in the table.

Next, students read a conversation between a new student, Jack,


Preparation and another student, Ruby, who is showing him their classroom.
The students then draw the items near each character.
Make one copy of the
two-page worksheet for Exercise B - Answer key
each student.
Jack: one schedule, two or more robots, one teacher's desk
Ruby: two hamsters, one student's desk, some chocolates
Level Students then read sentences and circle the correct words.

Finally, students look at pictures and complete six sentences that
contain demonstrative pronouns. The students then find the six
words used to complete the sentences in a word search.

B. Jack is a new student. Ruby is showing him their classroom. Draw the items near
Jack or Ruby.

Jack: This classroom looks really great. What are those?

Ruby: They are our pet hamsters, Salt and Pepper. They are very friendly.

Jack: Cool. What is this?

Ruby: That is our schedule for the week. You can see all the subjects we study there.

Jack: These look fun. What are they?

Ruby: They are robots. We use them in programming class. We will use them tomorrow.

Jack: Excellent. Whose desk is this?

Ruby: That is the teacher's desk. This is your desk.

Jack: What are those on my desk?

Ruby: They are chocolates from your new classmates. Welcome to the class!
