GENETIC ENGINEERING

DNA is the molecule that is the hereditary material in all living cells.

Genes are made of DNA, and so is the genome itself. But the difference is that A gene consists of
enough DNA to code for one protein, and on the other hand a genome is simply the sum total of
an organism's DNA.

In our human body our genome is approximately 3,000,000,000 base pairs long and is
packaged into 23 pairs of chromosomes.

INSULIN
but in people with type 1 diabetes? there is a problem with insulin production.

So where does genetic engineering comes in?

Genetic engineering has been used to produce a type of insulin, very similar to our own,
from yeast and bacteria? like E. coli?.
This genetically modified insulin, ‘Humulin’ was licensed for human use in 1982.

So to furthermore understand how the genetic engineering have been applied in insulin
Let us know the genetic engineering process in it.

STEP 2. cut the DNA segments at particular locations.
