of the best in the country, in terms of experience and innovation and their
works have also been published in peer-reviewed journals or prestigious
international conferences. A number of them have also implemented state-of-
the-art R&D projects and have also produced patents.
The Department produced its first batch of graduate electrical engineers in
1936. The postgraduate degree was first offered in 1955 and the first Ph.D.
scholar from the department came out in 1959. Currently, the department
offers an 8-semester undergraduate B.Tech course, a 10-semester dual degree
(B.Tech and M.Tech) course and a 4-semester postgraduate M.Tech degree
course in Electrical Engineering.

Vision of the Department

To attain a position of international excellence and leadership in

education and research activities related to Electrical Engineering.
To provide a dynamic and scholarly environment wherein students
learn independently and in collaboration with others to develop a
disciplined as well as an innovative approach to their careers as
industry-ready engineers, researchers or teachers. To ensure that every
student is aware of his/her role and responsibilities in industry and to a
greater extent to the society through appropriate exposure to ethics,
equity, public, and worker safety, and health considerations, together
with the concepts of sustainable development and environmental
stewardship.

The department has its own academic society referred to as the Electrical
Engineers’ Society, IIEST Shibpur (EES). EES is an initiative to bring together
students of the department, the faculty and erstwhile students. It is organized
and run by the students who work in conjunction with the teachers in charge
and is responsible for organizing various activities and workshops which help
students showcase their talent and gain exposure from industry experts as
well as other eminent professionals

SPHURAN

Sphuran is an initiative of the EES that aims to combine eagerness and technical
prowess of gifted individuals and provide a platform for expression. With
numerous technical events, quiz competitions, debates and seminars, the fest
welcomes students from various colleges to explore their abilities and hopes
to become one of the crown jewels of the Electrical Engineering Department
at IIEST Shibpur.
