Setting the Mood: Sounds and Lighting

Lighting is a true effort in the theater. A lighting designer decides what types of lights will
be used in a production and designs the lighting sequences for the entire production. The
lighting design has several aspects to consider.
- what is going to happen in the scene
-day/night
-location or place
-season
-the limitations and the advantages of the theater itself
-actor´s movements

The first is visibility, given that the audience should only be able to see exactly what they
need to see at any given moment during the production. Another aspect of lighting
design is known as revelation of form, or when during the theatrical performance will
the lighting need to change to make certain actor(s) stand out from the set and the rest
of the cast.
Setting the mood is another aspect of lighting design. In certain productions or even
moments in a scene, the lighting needs to create a tone of happiness, and in other
scenes, the lighting may need to be more ominous. Moods can be achieved using lighting
design. The lighting crew executes the lighting design using various types of lights during
the performance.
