The case study converts waste tyre (a major source of environmental pollution, with
more than 1.5 billion tyres produced yearly) into fuel oil via pyrolysis.
Major principles of strategic asset management for this case study are:
The plant exists only for one main reason that is produce as much product as
possible, according to the specifications, schedule of delivery and sustainable lowest
price.
The plant convert waste tyres into fuel via pyrolysis. Working principle of plant is
“Thermal degradation of the organic components of the tyres at temperature above 500ºC to
produce fuel oil, gas, char products and steel”.
Maintenance Structure:
As the plant has been in operations for close to two decades and its historical failures
associated with the critical stages as well as their associated components are captured and
stored within an in-house computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Summary is attached in case study document.
When the health of the equipment is good, there is less requirement of labor and spare
parts. But in this case, plant health is not in very good condition than more labor and spare
parts required because of continuous repair operation.
If we reduce the failures, we can increase the production and maintenance cost is
reduced. This will lead us in multi directions i.e. benefits as well as cost.
