Uniting the Colonists

READ the text (pp. 104-108) or virtual text (p.47) and answer the following questions with
AT LEAST TWO complete sentences.

1) What was Parliament’s response to learning the colonies were close to rebellion in 1768?
Parliament sent troops to Boston. As angry colonists jeered, the red coats set up
camp in the center of the city

2) What is propaganda and how was it utilized by the colonists during the 1760’s?
Propaganda is information designed to influence opinions. Samual Adams and Paul
Revere used this incident to portray the red coats as blood thirsty murders

3) How did Americans react to the Boston Massacre?


They called for a stronger boycott of British goods. Colonial leaders used the killing
as propaganda and put up posters that made the massacre sound like a slaughter of
innocent Americans.

4) Why did Parliament pass the Tea Act?


They passed the tea act to help save the British East India Company and protect the
British economy. It had given the company nearly total control of the market for tea
in the colony

5) Describe 3 parts of the Coercive Acts (What did they say?). What did the Colonists call
them?
One act applied to all the colonists forcing them to allow British soldiers to live
among the colonists. Another act banned town meetings in Massachusetts and the
third act closed the Boston harbor until the colonists paid for the ruin tea.
