Executive Summary:

This report is made based upon the interview of a local entrepreneur Mr. Gopal
Agrawal, director of Kailash Trading Company. In the first chapter of the report,
detailed information of the Kailash Trading Company has been mentioned, including
its date of commencement and short history regarding his business till date. Similarly,
brief personal history of Mr. Agrawal has also been mentioned.

In the second chapter of the report, some of the personal qualities that has made the
entrepreneur successful has been briefly described. And, similarly in the third chapter
of the report, some of the most important things which are required in doing business
that we have learnt are stated.

Chapter-1: Background and Inception of the Company:

The journey in the electrical field started when Satya Narayan Agrawal opened a small
shop named “Kailash Trading Company” at Biratnagar in 2031 B.S. (1974 A.D.) with a
motive to serve people with high quality electrical products. ‘Quality Assurance and
Product Safety” is the main slogan of the company. Moving ahead to their slogan in
year 2043 B.S. (1986 A.D.), they tied up with well-known brand like Usha and Mex for
catering high class electrical products as an authorised channel partner for Nepal.

Despite the company was established by Satya Narayan Agrawal, but later his son Mr.
Gopal Agrawal took the charge of the company and since then its growth has
increased significantly. Since school days he has shown interest in his father business
and by 2050 B.S. during his school days, he used to work as a part-timer in the
company.

After few years, In 2052 B.S. (1995 A.D.), the company intended to expand its product
basket to cater complete electrical solutions from domestic to industrial consumers.

For this it tied up with “HAVELLS” & “SIEMENS” to cater needs of industrial consumers.

It also added customized LT control panel manufacturing in year 2059 B.S. (2002 A.D.)
to provide end to end solutions.

In the year 2056 B.S. (1999 A.D.), the overwhelming response of customers towards
the company, motivated it to expand its business to other cities of the country. Today,
it has a wide network of 150 business partners all over the country, along with a branch
at capital of Nepal i.e. Kathmandu.

The desire to become active and to get involved in the course of electrical goods was
the decisive factor in the foundation of KAILASH TRADING COMPANY. Since then it
has been striving hard to give high quality product solutions to create a comfortable,
functional yet efficient work environment with everlasting client relationships.

In short, it introduce itself as one of the leading distributors of electrical goods in Nepal.
Started with diminutive business in Biratnagar, Eastern part of Nepal in the year 1974
A.D., today it is the leader in the field of domestic and industrial electrical products in
the country. In the short span of time, it has spread throughout length and breadth of
the country.

1.1 Personal History of the Entrepreneur:

Entrepreneur Gopal Agrawal was born on the year 2038 B.S at Biratnagar. Since his
childhood he used to help his father in his family business. When he was in class 8 in
the year 2050 B.S. he started to work as a part-timer in the company. In 2054 B.S. he
passed out SLC with 1st division. In the year 2056/57 B.S. he completed his +2
education. In the year 2060/61 he completed his bachelor’s degree in commerce and
then he joined master’s degree. By the year 2062 B.S. he dropped from Master’s
Degree and gave a full focused to his family business. After his active involvement in
the company, the company started to expand its outlets as well as its product lines. He
is not only an entrepreneur, he is also an active social activist. He has been donating
certain sum of money through his personal income to the needy community on a
regular basis. Along with it, company also sponsors various social events that
contributes for the welfare of the society.

Chapter-2: Personal Quality of the Entrepreneur:

He is one of the most successful entrepreneur of Eastern Nepal who has been
operating its business from the corner most city of Nepal i.e. Biratnagar to all parts of
the country. It has been possible because of his following qualities.

I. Self-discipline: Self-discipline is the single most important quality that boosted


him to be successful in both life and business. He used to do all those difficult
tasks which can guarantee to obtain the desired results despite the hardships
he had to face.

II. Persistence: No matter what happens, he never used to give up. His greatest
asset is his willingness to continue longer than anyone else. In fact, his
persistence is a true measure of his belief in himself and his ability to success.

III. A Clear Sense of Direction: Despite the regular changes in the modern
businesses, like other businessman he doesn’t change his working
environment frequently. In fact he has given his workers a clear sense of
direction in their work.

IV. Integrity: He has been perfectly honest in everything he do, in every transaction
and activity. Due to his honesty towards the work, there are many people in the
city who trust him, are willing to work for him, give him credit, lend him money,
buy him products and services, and help him during difficult times.

Chapter-3: Learning and reflection from the Entrepreneur:

Gopal Agrawal, director of Kailash Trading Company has been an inspiration for
those youths who wanted to pursue their career as an entrepreneur. From starting a
business from a small shop to be one of the leading supplier with 150 outlets all over
Nepal has been really inspirational. To be a successful entrepreneur, it is not
necessary to have a huge investment. In fact, the thing that requires are a business
idea, consistency and patience. Since childhood he has developed interest in the
business field. In his leisure time of school days, he used to work in his father’s
company and developed the key business skills practically at a very young age. His
passion and determination towards the field has made him successful. To be a
successful entrepreneur, one must possess self-discipline. From his story, we can
observe that to be successful we must develop a habit of doing the things which
others hesitate to do. Similarly, one must operate a business with honesty, this way
he/she can develop the trust of the people and also one should have strong passion
to get people interested in what you do and what inspires your team to keep up the

hard work. Moreover, one must possess persistence in operating the business with a

clear sense of direction in order to obtain the desire results.
