Reflective essay for Egg challenge

Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management is related with the

behavior, skills, and procedures to handle a group of member or an organization and
the conflicts between them. This module gives us theoretical as well as practical
knowledge about any organization or people so that the perceptions are clear. This
week’s activity was based on the last three lectures which were related to perception
and individual decision making, motivation, understanding groups and leading
teams. All the students were allocated into group of 5-6 members where we had to
make a parachute with the help of plastic bag which should be able to carry two eggs
inside it.

As we were given short briefing by our lecturer before this activity, our main task was
to drop that parachute from the third floor of our college building without breaking
those two eggs inside it .Each group was provided with some materials like small
wooden sticks, tape, two plastic bags, one thread, two eggs and some elastic
rubbers. We were given 30 minutes of time to accomplish this task. The sub division
of each member’s task in the group was not difficult as we shared ideas about the
task and gave every member the work as per the abilities they are best at.

Due to our failure because of time limit in first activity, we were already aware of it so
our group decided to make a strong base for egg at first so that it won’t crack. We
also made border in four sides and tied it with rubber and wrapped with tape to keep
it safer. Then, hurriedly two members started making parachute by tying thread in it.
Our parachute was ready so we joined those wooden sticks along with it. This time
we were able to complete our task before the time and we were happy for it. The
main challenge was to drop that parachute from the top of a building. So, the leader
of our group went to the top where he was so afraid to throw it from above. But
however he still managed to drop it but unfortunately this time also our task did not
gave the best result.
Both of the eggs inside the wooden sticks were cracked just because the base was
flipped over due to wind. This time also we were not able to win the task but we
learnt various things. We came to understand each and every member in the group
and their perception as well. We also gained trust between ourselves. Still, we did
not lose our anticipations and will give our best in next activity. We did not
demotivated ourselves as we know that success will always be achieved after
failures.

In a nutshell, this module is assisting us to improve in all fields. From this activity, we
came to experience practically about the things taught in lecture. We came to know
that we should listen everyone’s perception and then only decide what is right or
wrong. Proper decision making, turning individuals into team players, creating
effective ideas and motivating team members for what they want to do from within is
must in any kind of teamwork. Lastly, egg challenge was also a significant learning
practice as it made me more clear about all the things of lecture and created more
mutual understanding between us.
