Alexander O'Connor 

(born 4 May 1998), better known by his stage name Rex Orange County, is
an English recording artist. He grew up in the village of Grayshott near Haslemere, Surrey.[1]

The name Rex Orange County is based on a teacher-given nickname, "the OC", after his surname
O'Connor.[3] "The OC" is a nickname for Orange County, California, popularised by the television
show The O.C.

At age five, O'Connor was a part of the choir at the school where his mother worked.[4] He grew up
listening to Queen, ABBA, Green Day, and Weezer, along with more classical soulful artists,
like Stevie Wonder who also inspired him.[5] He is a drummer, self-taught pianist, and he picked up
the guitar when he was 16. At this age, he started to produce his own music on Logic software.[5]
At the age of 16, he went to the BRIT School, starting there as a drummer, one of four
percussionists in his year. This exposed him to new and fresh music.[4] The relative rareness of his
primary instrument provided him with wide exposure to various projects of others in his school.
O'Connor also produces his own projects.[3][2]

 Alexander O'Connor is an English musician who is popularly known by his stage


name Rex Orange County. He grew up idolizing popular English bands like
Queen and Green Day and also followed the legendary singer Stevie Wonder.
He learned multiple musical instruments in his boyhood and started composing
music on his own. The Hampshire-born talent also learned music in school and
later released his songs on digital platforms using the Logic software. Rex
Orange County released two albums, ‘bcos u will never b free’ and ‘Apricot
Princess’, independently. He eventually teamed up with Tyler Gregory Okonma,
aka Tyler the Creator, for the single ‘Boredom’. Rex Orange County is steadily
gaining popularity and has become a very popular figure on social media
platforms. He has a big fan following on the video sharing platform YouTube. Rex
Orange County learned to play various musical instruments as a young boy and began
composing songs using a music software. He composed his first album ‘bcos u will never b
free’ and released it on Soundcloud, a music streaming website, on November 7, 2016. The
album not only earned him numerous fans, but also attracted the attention of Ben Ash, an
English record producer (popularly known as Two Inch Punch). Ben Ash helped him by
providing him with a management team to look after his future works. Rex Orange County
and Ben Ash later collaborated to compose several singles. The partnership produced a few
singles like ‘UNO’, ‘Best Friend’ and Untitled’, between 2016 and 2017.

 In 2017, Rex Orange County released his second album, ‘Apricot Princess’. The album
featured at the number two spot on the US Top Heatseekers list and made it to the top 10 of
The Independent Albums chart. His success brought him further support from other
professional musicians. Rapper Tyler Gregory Okonma roped him in for his fourth studio
album ‘Flower Boy’ and Rex Orange County was featured in two singles from the album.
He sang the single ‘Foreword’ and collaborated with Anna of the North for the single
‘Boredom’.

 He released the single ‘Loving Is Easy’ (2017) which also featured Benny Sings. The song
was certified Gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). Rex Orange
County has performed the song on various occasions since its release, including on ‘The
Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’. He did a cover of the original song ‘You've Got a
Friend in Me’ along with its original composer and creator Randy Newman in 2018.

 Rex Orange County was born as Alexander O'Connor on May 4, 1998, in


Grayshott, Hampshire, England. While growing up, he listened to popular English
bands like ‘Queen’, ‘Green Day’ and ‘ABBA’ which encouraged him to actively take
part in the school choir. He also had a soft spot for classical music as well as
the indie genre. He learned to play the piano and the drum before learning the
guitar at the age of 16. He attended The BRIT School for Performing Arts and
Technology and became a drummer.
