DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BUS AND STAR TOPOLOGY
BUS TOPOLOGY
USE-Bus topology is a topology
where each device is connected to
a single cable which is known as
the backbone.
ERROR RATE- In bus topology the
failure of the network cable will
cause the whole network to fail.
COMPLICATION IN NETWORK
SETUP- This topology is easy to
configure.
FINDING A FAULT- In bus
topology all the nodes are connected
to the backbone cable. The signal
travels through the entire length of
the backbone and is received by the
node for which it is intended.
Hence, fault diagnosis is difficult.
NETWORK FAILURE-In bus
topology if the cable breaks at any
point, the computers on each side will
lose its termination.  fail. If a node fails, then the network
STAR TOPOLOGY
USE- A star topology is used to
reduce the impact of a transmission
line failure by independently
connecting each host to the hub.
ERROR RATE- Failure in the
central node affects the entire
network but failure in one device
does not affect the entire network.
COMPLICATION IN NETWORK
SETUP- The topology is less
difficult to configure.
FINDING A FAULT- It depends on
the host. It is easier to repair the
problematic host. However, if the
nodes fail, then each node has to be
searched.
NETWORK FAILURE- If host
fails, and then the network will also
can still run.
