John Freemans story is about a man who is a slave to Thomas Jefferson and

trying his best to keep his family together. His story is one of Slavery, Freedom,

and the struggle to keep a family together. He lived under Jefferson as a slave in

his adult life and would eventually be under a second president.

Body…include the Who, What, When, Where, and Why facts in a coherent

order. The who, what, when, where, why can be in any order of your choice.

Like many slaves not much is known about Johns personal life growing up

and he wouldn’t even be remembered I history until as a adult he was

rented out and eventually bought by Thomas Jefferson. While he was

working in the White House he would fall I love with a slave women and

gain permission from Jefferson to marry and he would have 3 children. By

the end of Jefferson Term, a law was passed in Jefferson home state

which he was going back to that if a free slave stayed there for more then

a month they would be allowed to be re-enslaved. This would prevent his

wife and 3 children form coming with him, so he asked Jefferson to sell

him to the next president so he could stay with his family. After as James

Madison’s slave during his term he would gain freedom due the contract

that his first owner signed finally making him a free man.

Was a great man who always put family before everything. Though he wouldn’t live to see the end of
slavery his grandson would fight in the civil war
