WBL Journal #6

Directions:  Write a 50-word (minimum) reflection for each of the questions/statements posted below.
Answers must be typed in complete sentences with correct spelling, capitalization, punctuation and
grammar.

Entries can include activities, training, observations, instructions, personal notes, etc. You can include
things that you saw and did and what equipment and technology was used.  Your responses may be
shared with your mentor.  Please be complete in your reflections/thoughts/answers.

Part 1: HOW DO YOU COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR SUPERVISOR AND CO-WORKERS?

When I engage with my supervisor, I tend to be more knowledgeable and speak with manners. I like to
give her ideas and new ways to run things that can benefit us and the residents. Since we have worked
together for a long time, we see each other better than the rest of the co-workers. I am the same with my
co-workers, but some are my age, so we do sometimes joke around but not enough to get us in trouble. 😊

Part 2: WHAT TYPE OF ISSUES HAVE YOU HAVE WITH COMMUNICATION SO FAR THIS SEMESTER EITHER
AT WORK OR IN SCHOOL?

THE ONLY CONCERNS I HAVE HAD WERE THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH MY PAY RATE AND ALSO
WHAT WOULD BE BETTER FOR US SERVERS. THE DIRECTOR SEEMS TO BE BUSY ALL THE TIME AND
FOCUSES ON OTHER THINGS RATHER THAN THE WORK ENVIRONMENT, DON’T GET ME WRONG SHE IS BUSY
ALL THE TIME BUT THERE NEEDS TO BE TIMES WHERE SHE CAN TALK TO US DIRECTLY AND SEE WHERE
THE ISSUES ARE.

PART 3: LIST AND EXPLAIN 3 WAYS YOU COULD WORK TO IMPROVE YOUR COMMUNICATION SKILLS
DURING YOUR WBL EXPERIENCE.

I feel like I could only use my communications skills with others since I am used to acting a
certain way with the people I work with. If I did not have such a broad variety of people to talk
to, I could express and use different emotions with more people. The video prompt does help
because I m speaking to others.
