ACTIVITY

Instructions: Answer the following questions.

1.) What are the causes of the Cavite Mutiny?

 Removal of privileges enjoyed by the laborers of the Cavite arsenal such as
exemption from the tribute and forced labor.
 Injustices of the government such as not paying provinces for tobacco crops, pay
tribute and rendering of Polo y Servicio for 40 days of men ranging from 16 to 60
years of age who were obligated to give personal services to community projects.
 Exacting personal taxes from the Filipino laborers in the engineering and artillery
corps in the Cavite arsenal, and requiring them to perform forced labor like ordinary
subjects.
 Unproportional compensation on the Cavite laborers despite of many child labors and
tons of workloads, given to them by the spaniards.
 Whenever laborers receive their pay as a compensation from their own workloads, the
taxes, as well as the falla, the fine one paid to be exempt from forced labor, always be
a subject of deduction from their salaries.
2.) In not more that 5 sentences, what is the relevance of Rizal’s retraction? (5 points)
 The relevance of Rizal’s retractions is that since Rizal himself was the inspiration of
the KKK or the Katipunan, the said retraction could signify or count the secret society
as worthless as their sole inspiration shown abjuration on his writings, words and
publications as shown on the written document. And much worse, the overall Filipino
people at that time could lose hope, and accepting the idea that Philippines will be a
permanent colony of Spain. Also, by publishing the said retraction, the spaniards
could rest at ease, and not bothered to have Filipinos a main reason to have a “battle
cry”, and have a total independence from their colonization. Given that the spaniards
and such friars abuses their power, if ever Rizal was executed without any rationale,
or any statement from him, the spaniards could “spark a fire” to the nationalism of
every Filipinos, resulting to a possible rebellion and an overthrowing movement
towards the Spanish government.
