CELTA Online Unit 1 Task 1 - Motivation

There can be many different reasons why students learn English.

Task 1
1. Think about the reasons you learnt another language or the reasons why students might
learn English e.g. is it for work, for pleasure etc.? Aim to come up with five reasons.

Your response
I learnt English because I moved to England in 2001 and I needed to be able to speak and understand
the language for communication purposes.
A student might be learning English to be able to fulfill the requirement of a job or a course in
college/university.
Some one might be interested in the English literature but does not understand the language. They
might learn it because they want to read and understand it.
A student may want to learn the language because they want to immigrate to an English speaking
country.
There may be a promotion opportunity at their job for which English language is a requirement.
