HOW TO WRITE YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY:

Before beginning:
Create a framework, the backbone of your story. For example:
20  Introduction
 Body
 Conclusion

Another example:
25  My Childhood
 Who Am I?
 My Goals
 My Ups and Downs
 Lessons Learned in and about Life
30 (you may create a framework of your own based on how you want to tell your story)
Creating a framework will help you create a direction, focus, and flow of ideas.

Once you have a framework, research your background.

 A good autobiography should include time and place of birth;
35  overview of personality;
 likes and dislikes;
 special events that shaped your life;
 significant people, things, and places in your life;
 and other things that tell about you.
40
Think about your childhood
 Start from the very beginning. Your early years in the easiest and most logical start.
 Make a smooth transition from this part to the next part.

45 Consider your culture

 Your way of life;
 Customs you practice;
 Food you eat;
 Language you speak;
 Daily rituals;
5  Other practices
Establish a theme
 One day as a theme – using an ordinary day in your life as a theme, like being a student, being a
son, being a Filipino, being unique, special, etc.
 One event as a theme – using a significant event in your life as a theme, like a dream that has been
10 guiding you, having a second chance in life, success, etc.
 Others.
(Themes will further help you smoothen the flow of your story, add more focus by allowing you to write
relevant topic/s only based on the theme and avoid running around the bush or writing in circles. It also
makes sure your sentences and paragraphs or the contents of your story are coherent and logical.)
