01. Amount of Excavation
As we know that excavation will be carried at very bottom. So, excavation level for walls of width 9” will
be at 27” depth while for walls 4.5” wide will be at 21” depth.

Length of L.W 1 = Clear Dimension + Wall Width + Wall Width

= 22.375’ + 22.5” + 22.5”

= 26.125’

Length of L.W 2 = Clear Dimension + Wall Width + Wall Width/2

= 7.875’ + 22.5” + 22.5”/2

= 10.6875’

Length of L.W 3 = Clear Dimension + Wall Width + Wall Width

= 7.875’ + 22.5” + 22.5”

= 11.625’

Length of L.W 4 = Clear Dimension + Wall Width + Wall Width/2

= 13’ + 22.5” + 22.5”/2

= 15.8125’

Length of L.W 5 = Clear Dimension + Wall Width + Wall Width

= 4.875’ + 22.5” + 22.5”

= 8.625’

Length of S.W 1 = Clear Dimension

= 42.375’

Similarly,

Length of S.W 2 = 8.875’

Length of S.W 3 = 11.875’

Length of S.W 4 = 13.875’

Length of S.W 5 = 29.1875’

Length of S.W 6 = 2.875’

Length of S.W 7 = 12.25’

After calculation of length of walls, we can find amount of excavation as under:

Length Width Height Quantity (Cubic

S.W.7 1 12.25 1.5 1.75 32.16
Sum 976.61

Total Amount of Excavation = 976.61 ft.3

Result: We need to excavate 976.61 cubic feet for foundation.

02. Brick Work in Foundation
In order to find amount of bricks required in foundation, we first need to calculate quantity of brick work
in cubic feet in every level of foundation separately as done below.

At 18” width Level:

We need to find length of all walls at this width.

We have already found lengths for 22.5” width while finding amount of excavation. We can utilize those
calculations here as under:

Length of L.W 1 = (Length of L.W 1 at 22.5” width) – 4.5”

= 26.125’ – 4.5”

= 25.75’

Length of L.W 2 = (Length of L.W 2 at 22.5” width) – 4.5”/2

= 10.6875’ – 4.5”/2

= 10.5’

Length of L.W 3 = (Length of L.W 3 at 22.5” width) – 4.5”

= 11.625’ – 4.5”

= 11.25’

Length of L.W 4 = We don’t need to find length of L.W 4 here because this is 4.5”
wall and at this level, for this wall we’ll be using P.C.C.

Length of L.W 5 = We don’t need to find length of L.W 5 here because it is 4.5” wall
and at this level, for this wall we’ll be using P.C.C.

Length of S.W 1 = (Length of S.W 1 at 22.5”) + 4.5”

= 42.75’

Similarly,

Length of S.W 2 = 9.25’

Length of S.W 3 = 12.25’

Length of S.W 4 = 14.25’

Length of S.W 5 = 29.5625’

Length of S.W 6 = We don’t need to find length of S.W 6 here because it is 4.5” wall
and at this level, for this wall we’ll be using P.C.C.
Length of S.W 7 = We don’t need to find length of S.W 7 here because it is 4.5” wall
and at this level, for this wall we’ll be using P.C.C.

1420
Number of bricks required for 484.4ft3 = × 484.4= 6,879 bricks

Result: We need 6,789 bricks for Foundation.

03. Amount of Concrete in Foundation
In order to find the amount of concrete required for foundation, we first need to find quantity of P.C.C in
foundation work. P.C.C ratio is 1:4:8.

Length of Long Walls and Short Walls has been calculated in finding amount of excavation. So using those
values, amount of concrete in foundation can be found as under:

Calculations for the concrete work are as follows:

Length Width Height Quantity (Cubic

Wall Number
(ft.) (ft.) (ft.) ft.)
L.W.1 3 26.125 1.875 0.25 36.74

S.W.7 1 12.25 1.5 0.25 4.59
        Sum 111.81
So,

Total amount of concrete in Foundation = 111.81 ft3

Result: We need 111.81 ft3 concrete in Foundation.

Thus,

Amount of concrete = 111.81 cubic feet (Wet Volume)

Dry Volume = 1.54 x Wet Volume

= 111.81 x 1.54

= 172.1874 cubic feet

1
Quantity of Cement = ×172.1874
13

= 13.24 cubic feet

As we know

Volume of 1 bag of cement = 1.25 cubic feet

So,
13.24 cubic feet of cement will be bags = 13.24/1.25 = 11 bags

Result: We need 11 bags of cement for P.C.C (1:4:8) in foundation.

04. Amount of Cement in D.P.C
While finding amount of cement in D.P.C, we will first find the amount of D.P.C and then amount of
cement can be found according to given ratio of D.P.C which is 1:2:4 in our case.

First we’ll find amount of D.P.C as below

Numbe Length Width Height Quantity (Cubic

S.W.7 1 12.25 0.75 0.08 0.74
Sum 14.79

It’s important to note that we are not going to provide any D.P.C under doors. Thus we can simply
subtract volume for openings and can find final amount of D.P.C required.

Openings Volume
Length Width Height
Doors Quantity (Cubic ft.)

D6 3 0.75 0.08 0.19
D7 2 0.375 0.08 0.06
Sum 1.44
So,

Quantity of D.P.C = 14.79 - 1.44 = 13.35 ft3

Dry Volume = 13.35 x 1.54

= 20.559 ft3

1
Quantity of cement = × 20.559
7

= 2.937 ft3

1.25 ft3 has cement bags = 1 bag

2.937ft3 will be = 2.937/1.25 = 2.34 (3 bags)

Result: We need 3 bags of cement for D.P.C (1:2:4).

05. Brick Work in Super Structure
In order to find amount of brick work in super-structure, we will first find quantity of work in cubic feet
and then we’ll subtract quantity of openings from it. Then, we’ll have the quantity which we’ll use to find
amount of bricks required for super structure.

Result: We need 24,236 bricks for Super-Structure.

Cost Estimation for Material
Note: All the cost estimation will be in Pakistani Rupee.

As we have calculated the amount of cement required for both P.C.C and D.P.C and also bricks for both
foundation and super-structure, we can simply estimate the cost of material.

Total Number of Bricks Required = Bricks for foundation + Bricks for Super-Structure

= 6789 + 24236

= 31,025

Cost of 1 Brick = Rs. 08

Cost of 31025 bricks = 31025 x 08

= Rs. 248,200

Total bags of Cement Required = Bags required for D.P.C + Bags required for P.C.C

= 3 + 11

= 14

Cost of 1 cement bag = Rs. 480

Cost of 14 cement bags = 14 x 480

= Rs. 6720

Apart from this, there will be extra cost for excavation, and aggregates and sand cost, water cost, labor
cost and other miscellaneous costs.
