REFLECTION PAPER

Topic: IMPLEMENTING A CURRICULUM DAILY IN THE CLASSROOM

A teacher should be prepared not only to teach the students but also to make sure that they
take some fruitful thought regarding the lesson at the end of the class. Lesson planning produces more
unified lessons ( Jensen, 2001). It gives teachers the opportunity to think deliberately about their choice
of lesson objectives, the types of activities that will meet these objectives, the sequence of those
activities, the materials needed, how long each activity might take, and how students should be
grouped.

Relatively, lesson 5 is all about laying down the curriculum plan. The main parts of the lesson
plan include intended learning outcomes, subject matter, procedure and methods, assessment of the
learning outcomes, and assignment or agreement. Objectives/ Intended Learning Outcomes means the
desired learning outcomes that focus on the lesson and are based on the Taxonomy of Objectives─
cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Second, subject matter or the ‘what’ in teaching comes from a
body of knowledge (facts, concepts, procedure, and metacognition) that will be learned through the
guidance of the teacher. Third is the procedure/ methods and strategies or the crux of curriculum
implementation. This is about how a teacher will put life to the intended outcomes and the subject
matter to be used depends on this component. Fourth, assessment of learning outcomes or where a
teacher assesses the final outcome of the lesson and to what extent the learning objectives were
achieved. And lastly, the assignment or agreement.
Knowing all this familiarize me with a broader range of conceptions particularly on how to
implement curriculum when I’m actually in the field of teaching. It made me recognize the elements of a
lesson plan that are innately tied to each other. Moreover, some modifications are necessary and crucial
in the lesson planning. To sum it up, lesson planning helps the teacher to be well prepared and be aware
of what he/she intends on teaching the students. It also underlay a sense of control and direction to be
guided effectively with regards to the subject matter and will be able to cater the questions without any
stress. Therefore, lesson planning is at the heart of being an effective teacher.
