This course, textile basics would help us being an all

rounded fashion merchandiser as in this course we will get
to know about the basic knowledge of textiles which is
mainly about the types of fabrics and their properties.
Fabric is the basic raw material of the clothing industry
which is utilized to make different products like bags, shoes,
bottoms and garments etc. so this is how being an all
rounded fashion merchandizer it’s important that we should
have knowledge of what we are marketing that may include
all the departments of textiles which involves shoes, bags,
clothing, blankets, households etc. For instance if I am
merchandising a product like clothes it would get impossible
for me if I couldn’t even differentiate between the product
quality.
Textiles were a major component of both ancient
economies and social relationships. They were essential for
many aspects of life, from clothing, blankets and household
furnishings. This course also helps us in building cultural
relationships with our customers. As by just playing with the
fabric we can connect with the people and could be on their
preferences. For instance, if we are coming up with the
designs or patterns related to some culture, this will leads to
customer attractions as through this we are provoking the
hidden patriot of that culture to prefer that product with
their cultural connectivity over others. Customers like these
feel emotional connectivity or attachment to their culture so
they buy or prefer product with whom they feel related.
This is how we just not know about the textile but also the
importance of designing in being an all rounded fashion
merchandiser.
Also textile basics helping us to sense products
characteristics as well. We will be able differentiate
between the quality of the products if the product is raw,
semi-worked, semi-manufactured, manufactured, semi-
made-up etc. By just touching the fabric we would be able
to know the quality or type if it is standard of fibers, yarns,
fabric construction, color fastness, designs and the final
finished garments.
So I think this course textile basics really helps us in being an
all rounded fashion merchandiser because all these things
are really important for us to know when we are dealing
with products related to textiles which not get includes
fabrics but also various methods of its designing.
