Week Material
The purpose of this term project is to allow each student the opportunity to learn through careful examination and precedent study of a significant
architectural example. Students are to present this information in both written and digital form. Groups are encouraged to work together collaboratively in
order that all students gain a full understanding of their case study project. Each group will be composed of 4 students .
Research should be conducted using a variety of sources including books, architectural journal articles, newspaper articles, web sites,
personal site visits, etc... In addition, use the information provided to you by Andrea Hall, Reference & Instruction Librarian at George Brown
College and Metro Archives located at Macpherson & Spadina (if access is allowed during COVID-19).

PART A (40%)
a) Research Component
Groups will research the following
× A brief history of the building/project
× Biographical information on the Architect/Designer
× Biographical information on the client/patron
× Site context information,
× Building information (using the list of images/ drawings below)
Each project may be illustrated/introduced by using any and as many of the following drawings/images:
× Key/context plan, aerial photo
× Site context photos
× Site plan (architectural drawing)
× Floor plans, sections, elevations, architectural details (drawings),
× Presentation drawings
× Structural drawings,
× Interior/exterior photographs,
× Construction photographs,
× 3-d drawings and images,
× Include photographs/images of other Buildings/Projects with similar architectural characteristics.
b) Graphic/Visual Component
Research gathered and submitted to be included in the presentation plus the following:
× Student / Group generated Questions of their presentation specific to their Analysis. Groups are to generate 4 questions for the class to
answer in the form of multiple-choice questions.
Part B: (10%)
3. Submission Requirements
• Submission to be formatted in such a way as to ensure that the research is presented in a logical, informative and engaging manner; the sections above
are guidelines pending the type of presentation students choose.
• Edit all text and images to eliminate redundancies.
• Spelling and grammar-count have a third-party person proof-read the work.
• Include a detailed bibliography citing all your sources of information; websites cannot make up more than 1/2 of the bibliography references.
• The digital submission is due Week 11. A folder Named “Term Project Submission Part A” will be made available in the ARCH1060 Blackboard link
where only one person from each group will upload the final presentation for the group in a PDF format.
• Produce a high-quality, 8-10-minute Presentation using both research graphics and written text.
• Presentation to be formatted in such a way as to ensure that the research is presented in a logical, informative and engaging manner;
• The presentation must be completely “self-contained” and “stand alone” – meaning it will consist of a single file containing all the required information.
The file will be then uploaded on Blackboard in PDF or audio or video format. Discussions on submissions can be discussed with the Instructor by Week
09.
• Images should be of a high graphic clarity

4. Research Guidelines
Architectural Context Identify and describe what “style” the building designed & built in; examples of this style – both
internationally and locally.
Application of Design Identify and describe what the design principles learned in class that can be applied to the
Principles building/project.
Building Materials Identify and describe the materials used in the construction of the building, and their relationship and
functionality to the design principles identified.
• Each group’s member will contribute equally and co-operate to provide the material that will be included in the project. Ideally, a student should be
selected within the group as “Project Manager” who shall:
× Establish a standardized format for the presentation
× Arrange for meetings and research times within the group
× Ensure all group members are assigned specific tasks
× Ensure all group members are completing their respective components of the project
× Collect all group members PowerPoint or equivalent slides /info to incorporate into one final group presentation
× Arrange for upload of digital copy into Blackboard folder
