Honorable Chair, Esteemed delegates.

People say, “History repeats itself” and in the contemporary world it has increasingly become
true with repeated events that remind us of our past mistakes. The genocide of the uygyur
muslims in the Xinjiang region has been the largest since the holocaust frm 1941 – 1945
Xinjiang officially Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region[9] (XUAR), is an autonomous region of
the People's Republic of China (PRC), located in the northwest of the country close to Central Asia.
Being the largest province-level division of China and the 8th-largest country subdivision in the
world, Xinjiang spans over 1.6 million km2 (640,000 square miles) and has about 25 million
inhabitants

The
China’s oppression of the Uighur people has been in the headlines for the past few years.
repression began at least a decade ago but severely escalated in 2017.
Since 2017, the Chinese Communist Party has detained an estimated 1.8 million Turkic Muslims, mostly
Uyghurs, in detention camps without due process. Detained Uyghurs are tortured, forced to go against
their religious beliefs and cultural practices, compelled to work in forced labor programs, and, in some
cases, raped, subjected to involuntary sterilization, and forced organ harvesting. As a direct result of the
CCP’s targeted population control campaign against Uyghurs, the birthrate of the Uyghur population in
the XUAR plummeted by 24% from 2017 to 2018, with birthrates in the Uyghur majority regions of
Hotan and Kashgar decreasing by more than 60% from 2015 to 2018. In 2018, 80 percent of all net added
contraceptive device fitted inside the uterus and physically
IUD (a
preventing the implantation of fertilized ova) placements in China were performed in
Xinjiang, despite the fact that the region only makes up 1.8 percent of the nation’s population. Nearly half
a million Muslim children in Xinjiang have been forcibly removed from their families, placed in state-run
boarding schools, and subjected to indoctrination(the process of teaching a person or group to accept
a set of beliefs uncritically) and inhumane treatment. Between 2017 and 2019, an estimated 80,000
Uyghurs were forcibly transferred out of the XUAR( Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous
Region) to work in factories across China which has raised concerns of forced labor being used in
global supply chains

The world still thinks of South Africa as a beacon of human rights in the world. South africa is,
after all, the country that overcame apartheid and set an example for the world with the Truth
and Reconciliation Commission, which the world followed from afar with great admiration.

The delegate would also like to point out that South Africa and some other important
African counties such as Ethiopia were not on the list of the 37 countries organised by
the Chinese government recently to support its actions in Xinjiang at the UN human
rights forum in Geneva.

The delegate would also like to assure that the nation of South Africa is not going to
support the inhumane actions of the Chinese government and plans on taking the lead
in criticising the mass campaign of forced cultural assimilation and concentration camps
now underway in the province of Xinjiang.
With that being said, This resolution produced by the delegates of south Africa, turkey and Pakistan
proposes a strict set of solutions, primarily targeting the background of the issue as well as its roots in
order to attain future achievements

The resolution covers all aspects of the issue and clearly states its possible solutions. Clause 1 calls for
the release of the Uyghur scholar ilham tohti and other human right activists wrongly detained in
Chinese prison. Clause 2 asks the Chinese authorities to provide access to the XUAR region to media
outlets and journalists frm around the world. Clause 3 calls for an end to the harassment of the uygyur
muslims living abroad by the Chinese authorities while clause 4 calls for an immediate end to the
practice of detention without charge and calls for the closing of all camps and detention centers. Clause
5 expresses its concern towards the fact that many international companies use forced labour frm The
XUAR region and also calls for its immediate boycott. Whereas clause 6 urges the Chinese government
to publish a list of those currently in detention and those who have been freed. Clause 7 calls for an end
to the implementation of measures used by the Chinese government to survey those currently trapped
and involved in forced labour in the detention camps. Finally, clause 8 request to the un and its member
states to actively remain seized in this matter.

As The resolution covers all aspects of the issue and clearly states its possible solutions the delegate of
South Africa believes that this resolution should be passed.

Any and all amendments to this resolution in the good will of achieving bigger peace by solving the issue
will be appreciated.

Thank you.
