-ING INFINITIVES

 As the subject of a sentence:  After adjectives:

 After prepositions:  After certain verbs:

 Put “not” before –ing to make a negative  Put “not” before the infinitive to make a negative

 Note: We can use –ing or infinitive without any change in meaning.

 With some verbs we use an object before the infinitive.
ask, tell, want, would like, expect Object: me, you, him, her, us, them, it

1 The teacher asked me/us to participate in class. 2 They expect you to play soccer.
Note: We use for + -ing to explain the function of things, but we use infinitive with “to” to explain the purpose of actions.
