Introduction:
Department of English, Shri Muktanand College, Gangapur, Dist. Aurangabad
organized the One Day Online National Level Workshop on Research Methodology on 1st
March 2021. In alignment with the vision and mission of the college, UGC and NAAC
department planned this activity to deliberate on the various aspects of Research across the
disciplines and methodology to be used to attain the objectives and test the hypotheses within
the framework of research design for the research to be undertaken.
With this aim Department has invited the well-known subject experts in the discipline
of humanities and languages. Following was the schedule of the proceedings of the workshop.

Session wise Report:

1. Inaugural Session:

Dr. Madhusudan Sarnaik introduced to the vision, mission, and different aspects of the college
development to the delegates participated in the workshop. He gave in the details of different
student centric and research-oriented activities of the college.
Dr. Vijaykumar Bandal gave the conceptual note of the research methodology workshop. He
talked about the changing scenario in the research in higher education and need of such
workshops to inculcate the skills and attitude amongst research students from under graduation
stage. He also introduced the guest to the delegates.

Dr. Avakash Jadhav, Associate Professor, Department of History, St. Xavier’s College – Autonomous,
Mumbai, and Founder Trustee of Kaash Foundation as well as Director, Centre for Academic and
Professional Development, inaugurated the workshop. He also gave the keynote address on “Research
Methods and Methodology in Humanities”. He focused on the various stages of research process such
as generating the ideas, description of the ideas, then explanation in the initial stage of the research. He
also focused on the various types of research like case study, action research etc. He at length talked
about the different research methods to be used in humanities i.e. Mixed Methods, Ethnography,
Inductive and Deductive Approach, Critical Approach, Interpretative Approach. Research resources
are significant in the collection of data in research. He talked about the various sources of data
collection, data collection methods as well as data analysis techniques and data analysis tools. He
underscored the importance of Review of Literature in the research process. His focus on Research
Design was commendable.

He initiated his discussion with showing some artefacts i.e., Pyramids, Lapis Lazuli stone, wooden
model of endangered tribal family from Andaman island. His talk was lucid, apt, and self-explanatory.
He engaged the delegates at every stage of his talk through mutual discussion with them.
It was followed by discussion session. He answered the various queries and cleared the doubts of
research students.
Dr. Ajay Deshmukh extended the vote of thanks for this session.
Technical Session – 1 :

Dr. Ajay Deshmukh was the anchor of this session. He introduced the resource person of the
session.

Dr. Sangeetha Puthiyedath, Assistant Professor, Department of Materials & Development


and Evaluation, The English and Foreign Languages University, (EFLU), Hyderabad,
Telangana, was the resource for this session. She talked on Academic Writing in
Research. She underscored the need of Academic writing in research. It is observed that
research scholar across the discipline lack the proper skills in academic writing. It causes great
problems of academic integrity and excellence the research in higher education.
She started her discussion with selecting the research area, how to choose the topic, how
choose an author for the study, how to search his works as well as how to narrow down the
research area, importance of bibliography, suitable stylesheet of reference writing, reference
writing tools. She also underscored the importance of primary sources and secondary sources.
Her main focus was on Academic Writing. She elaborated on how to start the argument, how
to connect it with other supporting or contradictory arguments logically. Flow of ideas must be
managed properly in the structure of the academic writing. She highlighted on the need of apt
vocabulary related to the research topic and area. Improving the draft quality through revisions
and eliminating the errors is necessary in academic writing. Editing of the draft to make it
compact and flawless in crucial stage in research. One can hire the services of the professional
experts for this. Grammatical and typographic errors must be rectified before finalizing the
draft.
Dr. Sangeetha Puthiyedath at length focused on various dimensions of Academic Writing. Her
session was full of relevant and useful information. It aroused the interest of scholars. Her talk
was meticulously structured, focused on Academic Writing.
It was followed by discussion session. She cleared the doubts of the research scholar by
answering their queries.
Dr. Vijaykumar Bandal offered the vote of thanks.

Technical Session - 2

This session was compared by Dr. Vijaykumar Bandal. He introduction the resource person of
the session to the delegates.
Dr. Rohidas Nitonde, Associate Professor, Department of English, Shri Shivaji College
Parbhani (MS), was the resource person for this session. He talked on Research Methods in
Language & Literature. He at length elaborated on backdrop of research in higher education.
He talked about the conviction in research, application of scientific methods and approaches,
importance of apt and suitable research design to conduct the research. He also touched the
issues of data handling i.e., data collection, analysis, inferences as well as interpretation and
drawing conclusions and generalizations.
While talking about the research methods in English Language and Literature, he focused on
qualitative research method like ethnography, critical discourses, critical theories, mimetic,
pragmatic methods, qualitative analysis, descriptive or textual analysis of the text etc.
He further talked about the importance of patience in research, author metrices, journal
metrices necessary for research publication, impact of one’s research on academic world. He
instigated into the technical tools for plagiarism. For understanding the need of research, he
explored the various funding agencies, research schemes like STRIDE, and their application
processes etc.
He highlighted the need of upgradation in research skills, research attitude and aptitude of the
research community in changing scenario in higher education.
His discussion was full of information necessary for the research scholars.
It was followed by discussion session. He answered the various queries and cleared the doubts
of participants.

Dr. Ajay Deshmukh offered the vote of thanks.


This session concluded the proceedings of the workshop.
