1. Introduction:
Meshing -- or mesh generation -- is the process of generating polygonal or
polyhedral mesh (i.e., the shape of the polygon/polyhedral is made up of multiple edges, faces
and vertices). Meshing is often used in software-based simulation for Finite Element Analysis
(FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Meshing is an integral part of the engineering
simulation process where complex geometries are divided into simple elements that can be used
as discrete local approximations of the larger domain. The mesh influences the accuracy,
convergence and speed of the simulation.

2. Aim:
The Aim of the report is to generate a mesh of a ship model with towing tank in
OpenFOAM.

3. 3D Model of the vessel:

The 3D model of the vessel taken for mesh generation is pictured below:

4. Creating a towing tank around the vessel model:

After creating a 3D model, the creation of towing tank around the

model. The Picture of towing tank with a 3D model is pictured below:

5. Mesh generation in OpenFOAM:

After creating towing tank around the 3D model, mesh generation is

carried out in OpenFOAM through Ubuntu Linux.

For Mesh Generation : Command ‘cartesianMesh’ is used.

6. Visualising the generated mesh in ParaView:

After completing mesh generation in OpenFOAM, generated mesh is

viewed through ParaView.

7. Conclusion:

Generating of mesh for the taken model in OpenFOAM is successful.
