Sharing work on ArcGIS Pro

Introduction: Sharing your work with colleagues and peers is arguably the most important part of GIS.
Being able to communicate problems and solutions through GIS is imperative to the field. Many
programs like ArcMap make you go through a whole slew of steps to be able to share your work. The
good news? It has never been easier to share work than with ArcGIS Pro. With a user-friendly interface
and easy connection to online services, ArcGIS pro puts the power of sharing at your fingertips. Let’s get
started!

1. First, you are going to need a data set to be working with. If you have an old data set lying around
in your folder that would be fine to use. Otherwise heres a link on how to get to my sample data
set: Q:\StudentCoursework\Haffnerm\GEOG.435.901.2215\SABBARBY9983
2. Once you open your data set in ArcGis Pro, youre going to want to navigate over to the share tab
and click on it.
3.Once there, you are going to want to share the whole project in most cases. But these steps
are almost the same if you want to share just the map. Click on the share Project option,
pictured on the left.

4. The most efficient way to share your work effectively is to share through you ArcGIS online
account. After clicking on the share project button, its going to open a pop-up window on the
left of your screen called package project. you are going to want to select upload package to
Online account. Depending on your account and computer it may have you login with your
organizations ArcGIS Online account. After doing this you are going to want to fill out a
summary of your project and appropriate tags for the information. For the sake of the tutorial
I’m going to click share outside of organization so that anyone with an ArcGIS online account
can look at this
dataset.
5. After this you are going to want to hit the analyze button to make sure there are no errors with
your data set. Next, you are going to hit the package button to finalize the command to upload
to ArcGIS online. If you have done all the steps correctly you should see this success pop up.
6. To make sure that everything went well with the upload, were going to want to go to ArcGIS
Online and login. After logging in, you’re going to want to navigate to the content tab and click
on it.

7. If everything went according to plan, you should see the project from ArcGIS pro uploaded.
Now anyone who has access to ArcGIS Pro can view your project!
Congratulations! You have now completed this tutorial on how to share your work via ArcGIS Pro and
ArcGIS online. If you do not want to upload the whole project file and just want to upload a map,
follow these same steps but just don’t hit the project button during step 3. I hope you found this
introductory tutorial to sharing your work helpful.
