Introduction
The goal of this exercise is to ensure that you have the correct version and level of ArcGIS Pro
installed on your computer and licensed for use in this course. We strongly encourage all
students, whether you have ArcGIS Pro installed or not, to review this information.
Option 1: Using your existing installation of ArcGIS Pro (for students who already have
ArcGIS Pro installed)
If you already have ArcGIS Pro installed on your computer and you have an ArcGIS Online
organizational account (not a free public account), you may be able to use them for this
course.
You will need to meet all three requirements listed below. Each link explains how to
determine if you meet the requirement and details of steps to take if your installation does
not meet the requirement.
If you are using a school or work computer, contact your IT or GIS manager or
ArcGIS Online administrator for approval and support before making any
changes.
1. You will need to be running the version of the software used in this course. This
courses uses ArcGIS Pro 2.2. Click here (https://bit.ly/2wCWL89) to determine what
version of ArcGIS Pro you are currently running.
2. You will need to have a Standard or an Advanced license level. Click here (https://bit.ly
/2wuHqHx) to determine what license level of ArcGIS Pro you have installed.
3. You will need to have an ArcGIS Online organizational account (not a free public
account) with specific privileges. Click here (https://bit.ly/2C2NPPp) to verify you have
the required privileges.
Option 2: Installing ArcGIS Pro for the first time (for students who do not have ArcGIS
Pro installed)
If you do not already have ArcGIS Pro installed on your computer, you should complete the
remainder of this exercise to download and install ArcGIS Pro 2.2.
1. Download ArcGIS Pro
a In your current browser window (the browser window in which you likely have a tab open
to the course), open a new tab.
b Browse to my.esri.com.
If you are signed in, you will see your name and Esri user name in the top-right corner.
c If you are not yet signed in, sign in with your Esri credentials.
g Click Downloads.
Note: If for some reason you do not see the Downloads option, sign out of my.esri.com by
clicking your name (at the top right) and choosing Sign Out. After you have signed out,
choose Sign In and sign back in with your Esri credentials. You should see the Downloads
options in the My Organizations tab.
The software installation file will begin to download to the default download location you
have set in your browser. If there is not enough space (about 1 GB) in that default location,
you may need to change the default download location set in your browser (https://bit.ly/
2MoWY9G) and start the download again. Be patient as the large file downloads. There is no
need to download any other software; you will not be provided a license for any other
products.
j If you want to download and install a language pack so that ArcGIS Pro runs in a different
language, you are welcome to do so when available. Watch for an announcement during
the course for when language packs will be available.
Note: Please note that the course is taught in English, and all screenshots in the exercises will
use the English version of ArcGIS Pro.
2. Install ArcGIS Pro
k After the download is completed, locate the downloaded .exe file on your computer.
m Follow the defaults, and choose the option to start ArcGIS Pro.
3. Sign in for the first time
n When ArcGIS Pro presents a Sign In dialog box, sign in with your ArcGIS credentials that
you documented in Section 1, Exercise 1 (the user name will include _cart).
Note: If ArcGIS Pro does not start automatically, double-click the ArcGIS Pro icon on your
desktop or start ArcGIS Pro from the Start menu.
q Click the back arrow to return to the ArcGIS Pro start page.
