IEP Review Meetings

for Students
A Social Story
What is an IEP?
IEP stands for “Individual Education Plan.”

Your IEP is your own personal plan, designed just for you. It’s a way to keep track
of your goals at school and the strategies we can use to help you meet them.
What is an IEP?
Your IEP has important information about you for your teachers and others who
work with you at school.

It talks about your interests, what you are really good at,
and what you need help doing.
What is an IEP Review?
At the end of the school year, we will have a meeting about your IEP.

At this meeting we will talk about the progress

you have made for each of your IEP goals.
What is an IEP Review?
Some of your goals may stay the same for next school year, and some of them may
change.
Who will be at the meeting?
People who will come to your IEP review meeting could include:

● You
● Your parents
● Your teacher
● Your EA
● Your principal
● Your resource teacher
● Other people who support you at school or at home
What will everyone do at the meeting?
Your resource teacher will lead the meeting. They may write down notes and ask
questions. The other adults, like your teacher and EA, will talk about how they
think you are doing with your IEP goals.

The adults may ask you questions, too.

What can I do at the meeting?
If you have things you want to talk about, you can do so at this meeting. The
adults may ask you some questions, too.

You can help by sharing information about

what you are good at, what you like to do
for fun, and what you need the most help
with.
What can I do at the meeting?
You can help by giving your opinion about which goals you are doing really well
with, and which ones still need work.

It is important for you to share your opinion with

the adults, because YOU know you best!
What can I do at the meeting?

If you get to have a say in your IEP review, it will

help you understand yourself better, and you
will know what you need to succeed.
Where will the meeting be?
The meeting will take place at your school, in a private room.

The meeting will take about an hour.

How can I prepare for the meeting?
Read your IEP carefully, or have someone read it with you.

You can practice things you want to say at

home with your parents, or at school with
your EA or a friend. They can ask you
questions, and you can practice answering
them.
How can I prepare for the meeting?
You could have someone help you write down some of the things you want to say
so you don’t forget them.

If you think of something you wanted to say

after the meeting, that’s ok! You can tell it to
an adult any time.
And remember...
Everyone at your IEP meeting cares about you, and wants to hear what you have
to say. You are the most important member of the team!
