It has been one week since I did my school
immersion. Before I go further, first I want to recall
the memory I felt when I was still in novitiate house.
Before we went to Cebu, I was a little bit nervous
because I had a thought that somehow lessen my self-
confidence. I was afraid for being rejected. However, I
also had an excited feeling because this was an
opportunity for me to grow. Specially to build myself
and to encounter people. The first time when we
arrived at the airport, br. Jean-paschal fetched us. We
went to SLCC. It is 20 minutes long distance from
airport to the school if there is no traffic. When we
arrived Fr. Fernold had a meeting with the member of
the head of faculties. We waited for 30 minutes and
had lunch together with them. they were very
welcoming. After that that Fr. Fernold told us to have
a rest and meet him in his office on 3pm to have a
short meeting about what we will do for our one-
month immersion. After that he took us to walk
around the college.
For this first week, what things I did is observation.
We were assigned at campus ministry office. There
we met with sir Varlee, sir Ramboy, sir Deo and sister
Jona. Luckily the three sirs are ex-CICM. it made me
happy and erased my nervousness. We joined them in
preparing the mission tree and sometimes assist them
in campus ministry.
On Sunday, we accompanied Fr. Fernold celebrating
mass in holy family parish. it is the only parish in
Cebu that CICM manage. There, we met Fr. Francis
who is the parish priest and Fr. Uegene. I was
impressive by Fr. Uegene. He is simple and really
welcoming. He also a joker.
On Thursday, I joined the campus ministry in retreat
for student grade 6. It was a wonderful experience to
accompany the young student. I learn a lot from the
campus ministry on how to deliver a retreat for
students. This moment also I can have an opportunity
to get closer with the students. I also got impressive
on what the students did while they have their meal.
They were very polite and discipline. It was different
from what I have experience before.
The next day I with joseph joined br. Paschal on
giving animation talk to students grade 6 and 5. There
is an interesting topic that br. Paschal proposed.it is
about vocation vs profession. Vocation is a call while
profession is a career. Profession can become a
vocation, but vocation never be profession. And he
also made me realized that instead of saying I have
vocation I must say to myself that I am the vocation.
This gave me a big impact and I agreed with him that
this idea has brought to see that the vocation is the
part of me. It is not something external.
From this first week I also realized that mission in the
school is not an easy task. It was very tiring. I had a
hard time to adjust my self with this situation.

On Friday, I was assigned to asset Fr. Francis in

elementary mass. After that we went to attend the
birthday celebration of Fr. Mervin’s mother in Ayala.

On Saturday afternoon, Fr. Fernold took us to have

dinner outside with his relatives who come from
Australia in Cordova. It is a wonderful place at
seaside. There are 10000 artificial roses and during the
night they were so beautiful.
