Text 1.

A young man hurried into his town library. He went up to one of the old librarians and
said to her eagerly, “Do you remember that you persuaded me to borrow a book about Greek
history a week ago?
“Yes, that’s right,” answered the librarian. ”Do you remember the name of the book?”
the young man asked.
The librarian felt very proud, because she was always trying to get young people to
take out books about Greek history, and she rarely found one who was willing to accept her
suggestions.
“Yes,” she answered. “Do you want to take it out again? Did you think it was so
interesting?”
“No, of course not,” said the young man. “But when I was taking it home, I met a girl
on the bus, and I wrote her telephone number in the book. I want to telephone her. Please,
may I look at the book again?

Text.2.

Once upon a time, there was an old man was gathering sticks in the forest. He
was stopped by age and work hard. When he hobbled painfully, he thought of his
troubles and began feel regret for himself. With a hopeless gesture, he threw his
bundle of sticks on the ground and groaned,” life is too hard”. I can’t bear any
longer. If only death would come and take me “while the words were out of his
mouth”. Death in the form of the skeleton in a black robe stood in front of him. “I
heard you call me, sir. What can I do for you”?  he said.
“please, sir, could you please help me put this bundle of sticks back on my
shoulder again?” replied the old man.

Cinderella
Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl called Cinderella. She lived with her stepsister and
stepmother. They were very bossy. She had to do all the housework.
One day an invitation to the ball came to the family. Her stepsister did not let her go, so
Cinderella was very sad. The stepsister went to the ball without her.
Fortunately, the fairy good mother came and helped her to get to the ball. At the ball Cinderella
danced with the prince. The prince fell in love with her. Then he married her. They lived happily ever
after.

The Good Stepmother
The old witch locked Hansel in a cage and set Gretel to clean the house. She planned
to eat them both. Each night the children cried and begged the witch to let them go.
Meanwhile, at home, their stepmother was beginning to wish she had never tried to get rid of
the children. ”I must find them,” she said and set off into the forest.
Many hours later, when her feet were tired from walking and her lips were dry from
thirst, she came to the cottage belonging to the witch. The stepmother peeped through the
window. Her heart cried out when she saw the two children.
She picked up the broom leaning against the door and crept inside. The witch was
putting some stew in the oven when the stepmother gave her an almighty push. The witch fell
into the oven and the stepmother shut the door.
“Children, I have come to save you,” she said, hugging them tightly. I have done a
dreadful thing. I hope in time you will forgive me. Let me take you home and become a
family again. They returned to their home and the stepmother became the best mother anyone
could wish to have, and of course they lived happily ever after.

Once upon a time, there was a little boy, who was poor, dirty, and smelly, came into a little
village. He was vey hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked for some food,
but nobody cared about him. No body wanted to help the little boy. Finally, a generous old
woman helped him. She gave him a shelter and a meal. When the boy wanted to leave, the
old woman gave him a “lesung”, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice.
She reminded him. “please remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself. Use
this “lesung” as a boat.
The little boy was happy and thanked the old woman. The little boy continued his
journey. While he was passing through the village, where he had asked for food, he saw
many people gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground.
People challenged each other to pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded.
“Can I try” asked the little boy
The crowd laughed mocklngly. The boy wanted to try his luck, consequently, he
stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very easily. Everybody was
dumbfounded. Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it
flooded the village. And no one was saved fron the water except the little boy and the
generous old woman who gave him shelter and meal. Aas she told him, he used the “lesung”
as a boat and picked up the old woman. The whole village became a huge lake
