Technology transfer means the transfer of technology from one organization to another or between

organization and people or vice versa. This can even happen between institutions/ universities. It helps
to open up the growth of science and technology across the globe. Mostly, if some kind of innovation is
needed to take care with a patent, the transfer of technology helps.

The NRDC is a premier knowledge transfer organization (KTO) in India. National Research Development
Corporation(NRDC) has commercialized technology, exported technology, key businesses, and services
to developed and developing nations alike, both in India and abroad. The task of NRDC, irrespective of
their stage of development, is to obtain, review, enhance and communicate the technology developed
in several national laboratories. One of the main roles of NRDC was to make sure that valuable
inventions are not ignored or disregarded whether made by domestic laboratories, private inventors,
small businesses or emerging university innovators. It usually helps organizations that have unknown
abilities and protect them and make them useful for other organizations or universities that need them.

The Institute of Indian Veterinary Research has been financed for the research and development of PPR
vaccines. The technology is concerned with the development of Peste des petits ruminants (PPR)
vaccines using a lineage 4 virus. The developed vaccine was tested on animals at laboratory level and at
state level the. For commercialization, the technology was transferred to NRDC. However, further
development for industrial use was necessary for the technology developed. In the nation's 200 million
small ruminant populations, this disease can be controlled with the PPR vaccine. This, in turn, will
increase production and profitability for small ruminants, especially for small and marginal farmers. The
disease control would also help to expand small ruminant trade. It can also help the country to export
the vaccine to neighbouring Asian countries in which viruses are prominent. This is how technology
transfer also helps to enhance the benefits for both the country and neighbouring countries when
commercialized by NRDC.
