The structure of the past simple is  

the following:

 
AFFIRMATIVE: 

subject + verb (in past form) + complement.

Example: 

I saw a movie yerterday.

 
NEGATIVE:

subject + auxiliary verb (did) + negation

 + verb(infinitive) + complement.

 Example: 

He didn't hear the telephone.


 

INTERROGATIVE:

Auxiliary verb (did) + subject + verb(infinitive) 


+ complement + ?.

Example:

Did you have dinner last  night?

 
 
WHIT THE VERB TO BE

For subjects: I, He, She, It use WAS and

 for the others use WERE.

AFFIRMATIVE:

Subject + verb (was/were) + complement. 

Example:

He was last night.  

 
NEGATIVE:

Subject + verb (was/were) + negation + complement.

Example:

 I wasn't angry.

INTERROGATIVE:

Verb (was/were) + subject + complement + ?

Example:
Was Mark at school yesterday?
