1. The use, characteristics and working principle of automatic
escalator
1.1 The use of automatic escalator
Automatic escalators are ideal passenger transport means for public places e.g.
metro, railway station, port, department store, office building, hotel, and restaurant
and so on. It can transport passengers continually from one floor to another or
trans-floor. It can operate both up and down. It can not only transport passengers but
also beautify the environment.
1.2 Characteristics of automatic escalator
-- It has great transport capacity.

-- The volume of passenger flow transported is even.
-- It can run in its setting travel direction and reverse its direction to satisfy
passengers’ demand for going up or down.
1.3 The working principle of automatic escalator
The traction machine of chain driven automatic escalator lies in the upper horizontal
truss. The traction machine turns through the main axle driven by two rows of
chains. The main drive sprocket drives the steps by the step traction chain to run in
cycles along the step track of the automatic escalator. At the same time, the handrail
driving chain and hand driving chain wheel drives the friction wheel of the handrail
drive axle by the double-row of chains. There is enough friction between the friction
wheel and handrail by adjusting the spring of the pressing belt device for the sake of
the synchronous running of the handrail and steps.

3. The main structure of automatic escalator
3.1 Traction chain
Traction chain is the part that drives the steps. By adjusting the tension spring of
the lower step, the traction chain will be in tension state to guarantee the step’s
smooth running along the track.
3.2 Step
Step is the part that runs in cycles along the step running track of automatic
escalator and be used for passengers to stand. Step is fixed on the step axle and be
driven by the traction chain.

3.3 Step running track
It is the guide rail for step roller to operate. It is fixed in the truss of automatic
escalator.
3.4 Balustrades
Balustrades are on both sides of the automatic escalator. It is the part for
passengers to support by hand and ensure the safety of passengers
3.4.1 Handrail
It is the belt-shaped part that is for passengers to support and is on the top of
balustrades and run synchronously with step.

3.4.2 Handrail support
Handrail support is fixed on the tempered glass to support handrail track.

3.4.3 Handrail guide rail
It is the track for the handrail to run.
3.4.4 Wainscot
It is under the handrail. It is the decoration guard board that is fixed between
the interior profiles and balustrade decking. It is made from 10mm-width
toughened glass.
3.5 Skirt panel
It is the metal brattice that adjoins two sides of the step. Its main function is
safety and guidance.
3.6 The inner and outer deck
k is the metal plate that is installed in the inner side if wainscot and
join skirt panel and wainscot together.
The outer deck is in the outer side of wainscot and on the top of deckboard. It is
the metal plate that joins the deckboard and wainscot together.
3.7 Front-edge plate
It is the metal plate that is installed at the inlet and outlet and adjoins the comb
plate. The comb plate is located on the place of the inlet and outlet of step. It is
The part engages with steps and facilitates passengers’ transition between
boarding and getting off the escalator.
3.8 Truss
The truss is the metal frame structure that is fixed on the building’s structure. It

can support steps, handrail devices, skirt panel and so on.
3.9 Pressing belt device
By adjusting the spring of the pressing belt device to strengthen roller pressure,
there is enough friction between friction wheel and handrail so as to guarantee
synchronous running of handrail and step.
3.10 Driving device
It is the device that drives automatic escalator to run. It is in the upper level truss.
Slowing down device drives the main axle to turn by the means of the
double-row of chains. The main drive sprocket drives the step to operate through
the traction chain.
3.11 Control case
It is installed in the machine room stated in the upper part of the automatic
escalator and control the normal running of the whole automatic escalator.
3.12 Safety device
3.12.1Emergency stop switch

The emergency stop switch is installed in the skirt panel which at top and
bottom entrance-exit, press the stop button, the escalator stop moving. When
the distance of two emergency stop switches length more than 30m, need to
install the attached urgent stop switch. As the following figure：

3.12.1 Driving chain safety and protective device

It is an electric device which stops the operation of escalator when the main
driving chain breaks. There is one such device at the main driving chain of the
upper machine room. As the following figure：

3.12.2 Step chain safety and protective device

It is an electric device which can stop the running of escalator when step driving
chain breaks or too slack. There is such one device respectively at the left and
right side at the turning point of the lower step running track. As the following
figure：

3.12.3 Comb plate safety device
It is the electric device that stops the operation of automatic escalator to avoid the
happening of accidents when objects are stuck in the engagement between the
step and comb plate. There is one such device respectively at the outlet (two units
at right and left side)of upper and lower step. As the following figure：

3.12.4 Step safety and protective device

It is the electric device that stops the running of escalator when any part of the
step break or sink. There is one step safety device respectively at the inner slope
straight of upper, lower step running track. As the following figure：

3.12.5 Step losing monitoring device
In case of losing step, ensure the escalator stop before the step losing position
enters into the comb plate. There is one such device respectively at the step
turning place of upper and lower machine room.
3.12.6 Skirt panel safety device（this is an option function）
It is the electric device which can stop the escalator’s running when objects are
stuck between the step and the skirt panel. There is one such device on both the
left side and the right side of the upper skirt panel and the lower skirt panel. As
the following figure：

3.12.7 Skirt panel brush
It is used to prevent the accident from happening when the passenger touches the
skirt panel without intention. It is installed on the skirt panels at both sides of
step.
3.12.8 Handrail entry protection device
It is an electric device which can stop the running of the automatic escalator
when fingers and other objects are stuck in the handrail entry. There is one such
device respectively at four handrail entries. As the following figure：

3.12.9 Handrail speed monitoring device

It is installed on the lower adjusting wheel group of handrail. There is one
respectively at the left and right side. The rollers with the waist type holes(or
screw) are installed on the lower adjusting wheel group. When the handrail is
running, measure the actual speed of handrail by the principle of proximity
switch’s induction to waist type hole(or screw). When the speed of handrail
deviates from actual speed of step by more than -15% and it lasts more than 15s,
the escalator stops running. This device is installed in the electric control cabinet
playing a protective role of overload, power phase failure and wrong phase.
The switch detection distance adjustment range is: 2 ~ 4 mm. As the following

3.12.10 Entrance plate protection device

When the machine room cover plate is closed, the switch action, when the machine
room cover plate is rised, the switch restoration.
When the machine room cover plate is opened, the device makes the escalator does
not start properly, and it can only be started through inspection control devices.
There is one such device respectively in upper and lower machine room. As the
following figure：
3.12.11 Unintentional reversal protection device

When its setting direction is changed not by people’s order, the escalator will
stop. It is installed on the drive device of the upper machine room. The switch
detection distance adjustment range is: 3 ~ 5 mm. As the following figure：

3.12.12 Escalator over-speed protection device

It is the device which can cut off the power supply automatically when the running
speed of escalator exceeds the prescribed parameter. It is installed on the drive
device of the upper machine room.
3.12.13 Step losing detection monitoring device
This device is used for monitoring step missing situation and could control
escalator stop running and into protective locking condition before the missing
location arrive at comb plate.
The switch detection distance adjustment range is:5 ~ 10mm.
There is one such device respectively close with upper and lower step .

3.12.14 Other Electric safety guard device
Please refer with the 《Escalator& Passenger Conveyor adjustment brochure》,

according to its content, Regularly check and test each part and functions to
see if safe and reliable.

4. The use of automatic escalator
4.1. The service rules
4.1.1 The dedicated people should be responsible for the management, operation,
maintenance, upkeep of automatic escalator. The key of the escalator must be used
and kept of by the dedicated people. The operation and maintenance people must
finish the technical training successfully before they assume the post.
4.1.2 The escalator must be operated according to the operation specification and
safety operation rule.
4.1.3 The escalator should be inspected and maintained according to the
specification. It should be inspected everyday, maintained every week, inspected
monthly, inspected at the end of a year, inspected thoroughly every three years.
4.1.4 The cleaner must clean the dust and adhered objects on the handrail, handrail
support, the two-side cover plates and skirt panel once a day. Soft brush or rag
should be used to protect the surface and keep the cleanness and beauty of escalator
while cleaning.
4.1.5 The dust on the place from step belt to turning point of the end should be
cleaned once a week. The cleaner should clean the objects adhered to the gear
groove of steps and waste materials in the engagement of the step and comb in case
the breakdown caused by block.
4.1.6 The environment of operating escalator should be ventilated and dry.
Especially no water should be accumulated in the pit under escalator. These
measures are to prevent parts and elements of electric equipment from moisture
and operating abnormally in the end.
4.1.7 Protective balustrade should be erected to limit the crowd and overload
during peak hour and prevent handrail support glass from being shattered by crowd
and hurting passengers.
4.1.8 Special personnel should be sent to the inlet and outlet of escalator to

guarantee the safety on escalator of senior citizens, children and people who have
difficulty walking when automatic escalator is running.
4.1.9 The sign of taking escalator safely should be stuck on the tempering glass of
the inlet and outlet of escalator. Notice of concerned rules on taking escalator
should be put on remarkable place.
4.1.10 Escalator must not transport goods as goods-transport equipment in case

steps and decoration are damaged.
4.1.11 Handrail tension wheel and pressing belt device should be loosened in case
the handrail become deformed permanently if escalator is not operated for long
time.
4.1.12 Ground wire and neutral line of escalator should be separated; at least one
ground connection reliability inspection of ground wire should be made annually.
Grounding resistor should be no more than 4ohm.
4.1.13 Outdoor escalator: In time to drain after rain and snow, check the drain holes
of lower machine room regularly .Make sure that there is no water in the machine
room to prevent the electric part from damp.
4.1.14 Outdoor escalator: when it is raining or thundering, the escalator had better
stop running.
4.2 Service condition
4.2.1 Ambient temperature should be between 5~45 degree.

(Outdoor escalator: Environment temperature should be between -30~45 degree)

4.2.2 Relative humidity of surrounding air should be no more than 95%.
4.2.3 Power supply voltage fluctuation should be ±7%.
4.2.4 There are no burning, explosion, harmful gas and dust corroding metal and
damaging electric insulation in the surrounding air.
4.3 Usage methods
4.3.1 First, insert key into the keyhole to start escalator and take out the key after
its start. (Please see the item No. 5 at this chapter)
4.3.2 Push red button to stop the traveling of automatic escalator when necessary.
Touch the safety guard device of the inlet and outlet of handrail to stop escalator’s
running when emergency.
4.3.3 The escalator would stop automatically when the following breakdowns arise.
The escalator must restart after the breakdown is excluded.
4.3.3.1 Main driving chain breaks down.
4.3.3.2 Comb plate is blocked by objects such as shoe nails.
4.3.3.3 Inlet or outlet of handrail is blocked by person or objects
4.3.3.4 Step traction chain breaks down
4.3.3.6 Deformation of steps leads to the operation of safety guard device.
4.3.3.6 Objects are inserted or stuck between the step and skirt panel. As a result
skirt panel is pressed and squeezed seriously. （When there is skirt safety device）
4.3.3.7 Handrail runs in abnormal speed.
4.3.3.8 Steps run at over speed or reversely.
4.3.4 Insert the inspection plug into the socket when inspect or adjustment is
needed. Then push the ‘up’ or ‘down’ button on the inspection box, the escalator
would travel accordingly. Let go off the button, the escalator will stop.
4.3.5 In winter, for the outdoor escalator, inspect if there is the phenomenon of ice

between comb and step, step and step meshing place. If any ice appears, remove
them immediately in order to avoid the damage happens on comb or step. Before
the escalator is running officially, run the escalator intermittently for one cycle in
low speed, which makes the handrail belt extending gradually. Thus, the
dehiscence of handrail belt is avoidable.
4.3.6 The key is used to turn on and turn off the outer control switch at the left
side of upper escalator when there are handrail lighting function and skirt lighting
function.
4.4 Safety operation procedure
4.4.1 The start of automatic escalator should be at the time of no-load running (No
passengers are permitted to be on escalator) to guarantee the safe start of
escalator.
4.4.2 There should be 3 minutes’ no-load running after the start of escalator. Stop
the operation and find out the reason when unusual voice or other abnormal
phenomena arise. Restart the escalator after breakdown is excluded.
4.4.3 The key should be pulled out of key role after the start of automatic escalator.
Key is not permitted to be left in the keyhole when concerned people leave.
4.4.4 Press the red ‘stop’ button on the skirt panel at the outlet to stop the running
escalator;
4.4.5 Touch safety guard device at the inlet or outlet of handrail to stop escalator
when emergency.
4.4.6 Key switch must be operated to change direction after the full stopping of
automatic escalator when the direction of escalator needs changing.
4.4.7 Automatic escalator’s running must be stopped when abnormal phenomenon
arise. Maintenance personnel should be informed in time. The escalator can be
used unless breakdown is fixed. Escalator is forbidden to be operated with hidden
danger.
4.4.8 If more than two adjacent teeth of comb plate at the inlet and outlet are

broken, the broken ones should be replaced to avoid accidents.

4.4.9 The external main electric power source must be shut off when escalator is
not used for long time or after the concerned personnel come off duty in the
evening. Electric power must not be supplied to escalator for the sake of safety
when escalator is not used for along time.
4.4.10 Clean the objects in the step tooth groove in time and clear the objects an the
inlet and outlet and comb plate to ensure the escalator’s normal operation
4.4.11 The main electric source switch should be shut off and then personnel are
dispatched to guard in case someone starts the escalator by mistake and cause
accident when someone enters the escalator to clean maintain the escalator or fix a
breakdown.
4.4.12 Inspection box should be manipulated so as to start or stop quickly when
escalator needs inspection or adjustment.
4.5 Usage of heating system for outdoor escalator
Heating system shall be started, that is, close the heating switch in the control
cabinet and the temperature controller will adjust the temperature automatically
when the environment temperature is below the 5 Celsius degree. When the heating
system is not used in summer, spring, autumn, air switch shall be open in the
control cabinet. In winter when the heating system is used, heating should be done
one hour before. In case of danger, the power supply of escalator should be cut off
when it not used at night.
Notice: Consider the heating power while using outdoor escalator.
4.6 Treatment in emergency
4.6.1 Press the emergency stop buttons in the top

and bottom.
4.6.2 Dial the emergency telephone when
passengers suffer injuries.
4.6.3 Safety board for DO NOT USE THE
ESCALATOR shall be put on the entrance
floor plate in the top and bottom.
4.6.4 Open the front-edge plate of the
entrance floor plate in the top.
4.6.5 Operate the escalator manually when
the dangerous cases need to be removed.
4.6.5.1 Take down the protective cover on the shaft end in the top of traction
machine.
4.6.5.2 Install the jigger hand wheel on the traction machine.
4.6.5.3 Rotate the release rod of the brake to the dotted line.
4.6.5.4 At the same time rotate the hand wheel clockwise, and the escalator will run
downwards.
4.6.5.2Turn the brake release rod to the dash line position (refer to the drawing).
4.6.5.3 Meanwhile, make upward or downward turning refer to the mark on inertia
wheel.
4.6.5.4 Release the rod after finishing turning and install protective cover. Note that
it shall be assured that the escalator cannot start and run when using inertia wheel
to turn.
4.6.5.5 Rotate the wheel anti-clockwise, and the escalator will run upwards.
4.6.5.6 Release the rod and take down the hand wheel after the winding.
4.6.5.7 Put back the protective cover of shaft end.
4.6.6 Restart the escalator after it is confirmed by the professionals after the danger
is eliminated.

5. The lubrication of automatic escalator
5.1. Lubrication requirements
Lubrication is important to mechanic transmission; reasonable lubrication can

reduce the wear of spare parts and prolong the life span of spare parts.
The kind of grease should be selected according to trademark when lubricating.
The quantity of grease used should be moderate at the same time. The grease
should be supplied in time when its quantity is not enough. Check the reason and
maintain in time when there is oil leakage in the lubrication circuit.
5.2. Lubrication points of automatic escalator
The lubrication of automatic escalator should be operated according to the

following chart.

5.3 Method of manual lubrication to handrail driving chain
5.3.1 Do manual lubrication to the main driving chain, handrail driving chain and
step traction chain once every two weeks. NO. ①⑥⑧ in the above drawings.
5.3.2 Methods: Discharge three continual steps and the protective cover at upper

step way. Remove the part where steps having been discharged to the above of
handrail driving chain, and lubricate the handrail driving chain. Remove the part
where steps having been discharged to the turning place at upper step way.
Lubricate main driving chain and step traction chain.
The total quantity of manual lubricant is about 3L (about 2L for step chain, about
0.54L for main driving chain, about 0.36L for handrail driving chain). During
every lubrication dipping the brushes into lubricant and lubricate the three chains
with half quantity first. Then run the escalator for more than 10 minutes.
Lubricate the chains with the other half quantity so that the touching position
between inner and outer plate, inner plate and running pulley, running pulley and
gear can be lubricated sufficiently. Note that drop no lubricant on the base plate
of machine room or the back of steps under the handrail driving chain in case of
smudging.
6. Maintenance and upkeep requirements of automatic escalator
6.1 Safety rule for maintenance and upkeep
6.1.1 Guardrails should be set up at the landings of escalator and “Automatic

escalator is under inspection, no nearing” sign should be put up to avoid
passengers’ approach during maintenance.
6.1.2 The main electricity switch should shut off when maintenance worker need
entering inner part of escalator. And “Under inspection, don’t approach” sign
should be put up and special personnel should be dispatched to prevent the
electric source from being switched on.
6.1.3 Safety operation rule must be observed when escalator needs starting during
maintenance.
6.1.4 Inspection box should be used to operate the start of escalator and no people
are allowed to stand on principal axis of traction chain.

6.1.5 The portable light used in maintenance must be safety lamp with shroud.
6.1.6 Tools should be inspected and checked after the maintenance and upkeep
are completed. Any unconcerned objects must not left in the inner escalator.
6.1.7 Special tools shall be used under inspection.
6.1.8 Before entering of the machine room, use the special tools to remove the
front-edge plates in turn and put them on the near floor in order to confirm
whether entrance of the machine room is safe and convenient.
6.1.9 Usage of the inspection switch box
6.1.9.1 Master use method and attentions of the inspection switch.
6.1.9.2 Before the operation of inspection switch, confirm whether there are
passengers around and other unsafe factors.
6.1.9.3 There shall be sockets of inspection switch boxes in the upper and lower
machine room.
6.2 Contents of maintenance and upkeep
6.2.1 Everyday inspection

Inspect the following parts every day. Find and fix breakdowns in time.

7 Inspection and adjustment means of main parts
7.1. Inspection of drive
Run the escalator for 2 cycles by key switches at the ends of escalator. During the
operation confirm that the following parts of escalator have no abnormal voice
and vibration, and handle them promptly if the problems are found.
7.1.1 All guiding system (including step running track and balustrade system)
7.1.2 Step
7.1.3. Main drive system
7.1.4. Traction machine
7.1.5. Lower tension device
7.2. Detachment, installation and adjustment of front-edge plate
Pry up front-edge plate by using tools and put them on near floor in turn. (Refer
to the following picture) When it is reinstalled, the upper flat surface of two
front-edge plates should be equal in height. No suspension feeling should be felt
when treading on any place of the front-edge plate. Otherwise, the rubber
washers around under front-edge plate should be adjusted.

7.3. Detachment and installation of inner and outer deck
First, discharge the bolt M4×10 on the seams of outer deck and then take out the
connection plate of outer deck(Refer to Drawing 1）
Discharge the bolt M4×10 used for connecting outer deck and bracket of outer
deck, then outer deck can be pulled out successively. (Refer to drawing 2)
Do not make the nuts of plug-in pieces creep down during the discharging.

Screw off the nut M12, loosen the diamond bolt and remove out the bolts and
outer deck support to pull out the outer deck in turn.

7.4.1 Step detachment

7.4.1.1 Operate the steps which are to be dismantled to turning round place of the
lower part of escalator by inching movement manually, and unload the guard
plate of step running track as the following picture shows

7.4.1.2 Slacken the clamps at the two sides of traction chain main axle; pull out
bushing from step hole along the main axle, as the following picture.
7.4.1.3 Catch the step tread steadily by hand; remove the step sub-sheave out of
turning wall reserved notch and then step is moved to one side and tilted. And
then it can be dismantled.

7.4.2 Step installation and adjustment

7.4.2.1 Run the step place to the lower step running track place by winding as the
following picture.
7.4.2.2 Install two sub-sheaves of the step from the notch of the lower step
running track turning wall. Tilt the step properly when installing.
7.4.2.3 Connect the step to the step axle

7.4.2.4 Install the bushing (plastic locating sleeve) between step opening and axle
and fix it (rap it properly by wooden hammer) as the following picture (the left is
assembling picture, the right is the assembled picture)
7.4.2.5 After the completion of left and right side, measure the distance between
step side and traction chain main sheave side by ruler. Adjust the position of the
step to make the working centerline of it with front and back step symmetrical.
The symmetry is no more than 0.5mm.
7.4.2.6 After the position is adjusted properly, make the positioning clamp for
step and bushing close up tightly. Screw up the screw to prevent the looseness by
step wrench.
7.4.2.7 After the initial installation of the steps inch by inch run the escalator and
observe the clearance between steps and combs to ensure no scratch. If the
scratch occurs, loosen the clamp and adjust the position of the steps until no
scratch occurs. Repeat the procedure of 4.2.5～4.2.6.
7.4.2.8 Reset the step running track protection plate dismantled.
7.5 Inspection of speed reduction box
7.5.1 Run the escalator upwards and downwards for two cycles by key switch.
Check whether there is abnormal voice or vibration in slowing down tank during
escalator’s running.
7.5.2 Dismantle front-edge plate and shut off electric source

7.5.4 Inspect whether the bolt for mounting traction machine is slack.

7.6. Inspection of electric motor

7.6.1.1 Whether temperature of motor is too high.
7.6.1.2 Whether there is abnormal voice or vibration in the parts of bearing.
7.6.1.3 If the three phase current and three phases voltage of motor is balanced.
7.6.2 Method of inspection
7.6.2.1 The temperature of electric motor can be measured on the surface of
motor shell by electric thermometer. Temperature should be below 80 degrees.
The motor should stop operation if temperature exceeds 80 degrees. Special
personnel should inspect and repair it.
7.6.2.2 When the electric motor is running, measure using current meter whether
the three phase current of motor is balanced, and measure using voltage meter if
three phase voltage is balanced, and measure whether they are within the rated
scope (three phase voltage, current scope is ±5%.)
7.7 The cleaning of step running track and connection check
7.7.1 Item for inspection

7.7.1.1Whether there are objects on the working surface of step running track.
7.7.1.2 There will be abnormal voice and vibration of steps during operation
when objects are on the working surface. So objects should be cleared away from
the working surface.
7.7.1.3 Check whether thread connection and welding seam at the joint of the
step running track are slack and sealed-off. If the problems are found, prompt

treatment shall be done.

7.7.2.1 Find out the position which cause the abnormal voice and vibration
7.7.2.2 Dismantle front-edge plate, shut off electric source.
7.7.2.3 Dismantle 3~4 steps repeatedly.

abnormal voice and vibration. Clear the guide rail of main, sub-wheel.

7.8.2.2.1 Dismantle front-edge plate and shut off the electricity source.
7.8.2.2.2 Dismantle the step whose yellow plastic rim will be replaced.
7.8.2.2.3 Dismantle the damaged or worn yellow plastic rim
7.8.2.2.4 Install new yellow plastic rim.
7.8.2.2.5 Install the dismantled steps, connect electricity, operate automatic
escalator by inching, and inspect the engagement between the replaced step and
adjacent steps. (Upper and lower arc section)
7.8.2.2.6 Operate automatic escalator; make front-edge plate back to its original
position if there is no abnormal phenomenon after inspection.
7.8.2.3 Inspect the clearance between step and skirt panel. Inspect whether the
installation size is correct when there is friction between step and skirt panel.
7.8.2.3.1 Adjust according to the following methods if the step installation size is
not correct.
7.8.2.3.1.1 Operate automatic escalator, move steps which are to be adjusted to
comb plates of upper, lower escalator. Inspect the engagement between step and
comb, and then decide to move steps to the left or right.
7.8.2.3.1.2 Move steps which are to be adjusted to the turning position of lower
step-running track, shut off electricity source.
7.8.2.3.1.3 Slacken the clamp on step axle, move the step to the left or right
slightly.
7.8.2.3.2 Adjust according to the following methods when skirt panel installation
size is not correct.

7.8.2.3.2.1 Erect a square on step tread to inspect skirt panel’s verticality (inspect
two points)
7.8.2.3.2.2 According to the inspection result of item a, take the inner side of skirt
panel as reference to adjust the nut fixing the skirt panel to ensure the clearance
between step and skirt panel is 2.5±0.5.
7.8.2.4. Check the clearance between the step main sheave and the pressing rail
of lifting segment. When the clearance between the step sheave and pressing rail
is too small or there is no clearance, the leap and jump phenomenon will arise; if
the clearance is too big, the sub-sheave of step will shake. The clearance between
the step sheave and pressing rail should be remain 1~1.5.
7.9 The inspection of auto-lubrication system

7.9.1.1 Whether lubrication state of every chain is normal
7.9.1.2 Whether the position of every nozzle is right.
7.9.1.3 Whether there is oil leakage at the tank, nozzle and joint.
7.9.1.4 Whether lubricant in oil tank is enough

7.9.2.1 Add lubricant
Lubricate through the filter at the oil nozzle before the oil in oil tank is less than
1/4 capacity.
7.9.2.2 Exhaust
Slacken brass nut, start pump to the nut to ooze oil. Screw the nut firmly after
exhaust.
7.9.2.3 Cleaning of oil tank
Clean oil tank once every two years.
Pour waste oil out of oil tank, clean oil tank by using cleaning oil. Fill new oil in
the oil tank and the outside of tank shall be cleaned by cloth.
7.10 Inspection of main driving chain safety device

7.10.1.1 Inspect whether operation of switch is normal.
7.10.1.2 Inspect whether stationary state of every part is normal.
7.10.1.3 Inspect whether wiring or wiring terminal is normal.
7.10.2.1 Dismantle front-edge plate, shut off electricity source.
7.10.2.2 Adjust the position of switch when necessary. After adjustment, connect
electricity, operate escalator and observe if there is abnormal phenomenon.
Restore front-edge plate to its original position if operation is normal.
7.11. Inspection of traction chain safety device
7.11.1 Item of inspection

7.11.1.1 Inspect whether operation of switch is normal.
7.11.1.2 Inspect whether stationary state of switch and touching- plate is normal.
7.11.1.3 Inspect whether wiring and wiring terminal is normal.

7.12.2.6 Connect electricity, operate automatic escalator to observe if there is

7.13. Inspection of skirt panel safety device

7.14. Inspection of handrail entry safety device

7.14.1.1 Whether rubber of inlet and outlet is deformed.
7.14.1.2 Whether handrail contact with rubber of entry when escalator’s
operation.
7.14.1.3 Whether operation of inlet and outlet safety device is normal.
7.14.1.4 Whether stationary state of inlet and outlet safety device is normal.
7.14.1.5 Whether wiring or wring terminal is normal.
7.14.2.1 Operate escalator, observe if the running of handrail is eccentric,
whether the rubber is deformed, whether handrail contacts with rubber of inlet
and outlet.

7.14.2.2 Exert 2kgf force on the rubber surface of inlet and outlet to observe if
switch operates.
7.14.2.3 Press hands on the rubber of inlet and outlet in order to operate handrail
entry safety device. Handrail entry safety will restore to its original position when
hands let go of the rubber.
7.14.3 Method of adjustment : if the entrance of the handrail belt is eccentric ,

then it need to check whether the running plane of the roller group is vertical, by
adjusting the stay bolt and jackscrew of the roller group, which makes the roller
group and hand strap operation plane, then tighten the nut.
7.15 Adjustment of handrail tension
7.15.1 Intension: to guarantee handrail’s smooth operation without vibration. The

over-slack installation of handrail will lead to handrail’s vibration. The over-tight
installation will lead to handrail’s heating which reduces handrail’s using life.
The handrail will become longer after the operation for a while, so handrail
tension must be inspected at regular intervals.
7.15.2 Steps: Adjustment of handrail tension should be in accordance with the
following steps.
7.15.2.1 Loosen nut M12 and gasket, by adjusting the switching angle steel
component right and left location on the width of truss, ensure roller center
distance of tension roller group is 1250±3(1050±3；850±3),then put the top
screw M12×65 on the truss angle steel, confirm the roller center in the same
vertical plane, roller and the handrail belt match perfectly, tighten top screw nut

7.15.2.1 Relax bolt A, B.

measure sag between the handrails of two pulleys to make its sag be 5-10mm.

comes to automatic lubrication function)
7.16.1 Location: Handrail driving chain oil tray, upper machine room main chain
driving oil tray and step chain oil groove .
Intention: When lubricant of handrail driving chain drips, special oil collecting

tray will be held out to have oil poured into it. However, oil will spill from the oil
tray when oil is stored up to a certain amount. The spilled oil will contaminate
steps of the returning surface of step. So the oil stored in the collecting oil tray
must be got rid of at regular intervals.
7.16.2 Method: get rid of oil once every six months.
7.16.2
Intention: When lubricant of handrail driving chain drips, special oil collecting
tray will be held out to have oil poured into it. However, oil will spill from the oil
tray when oil is stored up to a certain amount. The spilled oil will contaminate
steps of the returning surface of step. And upper machine room main drive chain
oil tray and step chain oil tray will stained the base plate, which will have the fire
danger .So the oil stored in the collecting oil tray must be got rid of at regular
intervals.
7.16.2 Method: get rid of oil once every six months.
7.16.2.1 Dismantle 3 adjacent steps and Upper step protection panel, move
dismantled steps to the due top of handrail driving chain.
7.16.2.2 Remove the discharged escalator part to the turning place. Clear away
the oil stored up in the oil tray using cloth. Oil must not be dripped on the steps
of returning surface of step.
7.16.2.3 Install the 3 dismantled steps.

7.17. Adjustment of handrail driving chain
7.17.1 Intention: the action of long time’s pulling force makes chain be longer
after escalator’s running for some time. Bad engagement between link and chain
wheel will reduce the transmission efficiency of chain and cause the jump of link
and give rise to noise. So handrail driving chain must be adjusted at regular
intervals to moderate the tension.
7.17.2 Method: the tension of handrail driving chain should be adjusted
according to the following steps

7.17.2.1 Dismantle three adjacent steps, move absent rooms of dismantled steps
to the position of handrail drive device.
7.17.2.2 Move chain in vertical direction by hand between two chain wheels,
measure the moving distance B
7.17.2.3 Tension doesn’t need adjustment when 10mm<B<25mm;
7.17.2.4 Be adjusted according to steps after 17.2.4 when B＞25mm.
7.17.2.5 Fix handrail drive axle on panel through bearing stand, screw off bolt
M12×30 (there are four bolts respectively on the left and right)
7.17.2.6 Screw jam nut M10 off, screw up the adjusting bolt M10×100 to tighten
chain in order to make B be 15mm.
7.17.2.7 Screw bolt M12×30 up (there are four such bolts respectively on left and
right)
7.17.2.8 Run escalator up and stop it after a circular course.
7.17.2.9 Measure the size of B again, repeat 17.2.4-17.2.9 till B meet demands if
B is not within the scope between 10-25mm.
7.17.2.10 Screw jam nut M10 up.
7.17.2.11 Install three dismantled steps.
Pay attention to: handrail drive axle should be moved with the same distance on
the left and right. Clearance between handrail surface and pressing belt device
should meet the demand of Item 19 after the adjustment of handrail driving chain.
7.18. Adjustment of main driving chain
7.18.1 Intention: the action of long time’s pulling force makes the chain be longer
after escalator’s operation for some time. That will reduce the transmission
efficiency and give rise to noise. So adjust main driving chain to moderate the
tension at regular intervals.
7.18.2 Method: the tension of main driving chain should be adjusted according to
the following steps
7.18.2.1 After escalator runs down for one cycle, stop running and open the upper

7.18.2.2 Move chain in vertical direction by hand between two chain wheels,
measure moving distance B Tension doesn’t need adjustment when
10mm<B<20mm. It should be adjusted according to steps after item 18.2.3 when
B>20mm or B＜10mm.
7.18.2.3 Screw the fixing bolt off. There are two such bolts respectively on the
left and right.
7.18.2.4 Screw up the adjusting bolt and tighten the chain to make 10mm＜B＜
20mm. Move two adjusting bolts at the same time.
7.18.2.5 Screw up the fixing bolts (there are two on the right and left)
7.18.2.6 Run escalator downwards and stop it after a circular course.
7.18.2.7 Measure the size of B, repeat steps 18.2.3-18.2.6 till B meet the demand
if B is not within the scope between 10-20mm.
7.19 The adjustment of pressing belt device
7.19.1 Intention: there should be enough friction between friction wheel and
handrail to ensure synchronous speed of handrail and step. (The objective is to be
achieved through the adjustment of pressing belt device spring)
7.19.2 Method: Tension of pressing belt device should be adjusted by the
following steps.
7.19.2.1 Dismantle three adjacent steps, move locations of the dismantled steps to

the handrail driving chain device.

7.19.2.2 Screw nut A on, X=118 when raising height is below 4500; X=108 when
raising height is between 4500-6000.

This structure is used on the driving axel of handrail. Detect the tightening
torque of tightening screw every six months by torque wrench if there is no
abnormality on site, and the tightening torque at this position is16.8 N.m.
