Last month I took a weekend trip to Seoul. I read about this cute art village called
Heyri, so I went out on a search. It was quite and adventure.
I took the 8 a.m. train to Seoul via bullet train. I arrived a little before 11 a.m. I locked up
my bags and looked for the subway. My teacher told me that Seoul's subway system was
chaotic. I waited for 40 -mutes for it to come. Then, once I got on and sat down, it waited
for another 30 minutes. I rode for another 40 minutes. Then, I transferred to a bus. I was
lucky because the bus ride was not as long as the rain trip. It was only 20 minutes. I was
happy to have finally arrived at my destination.
Heyri is a small art village on the outskirts of Seoul. It's filled with art galleries,
bridges, and different artistic things. It was so cute and beautiful. I was greeted at the gate
by a giant blue man. It was - hilarious that a lot of Koreans were actually bowing to it. I had
fun just walking around and exploring different areas, doing different things, etc. One cool
thing I found was an old school bus. There was a little store behind the bus. It sold tons of
jewelry.

In this science experiment we will make a miniature bolt of lightning using a balloon,
piece of wool and some metal. We will explore static electricity and what causes
lightning. We will learn about electrons, atoms, positive and negative charges.
What to do:
1. Blow up the balloons.
2. Turn off the lights in a room at night and get it as dark as possible.
3. Rub the balloon rapidly against a piece of wool or wool sweater several times. This
will give the balloon a negative charge as electrons jump from the wool to the
balloon. When rubbing the wool against the balloon we are creating static
electricity and saving it up in the balloon.
4. Move the balloon close to something metal like
a filing cabinet or a door knob.
5. Watch for a flash or spark that jumps from the balloon to the metal object just like
lighting.
Please note: The humidity in the air can affect static electricity. If the air is damp, such
as during the winter, then this experiment may not work.
Adopted from: http://weirdsciencekids.com/MakeLightning.html (April 12, 2012)

28. Why is the experiment carried out?

A. To explore the advantages of static electricity.
B. To study static electricity and the cause of lightning.
C. To explain how a bolt of lightning is created.
D. To learn about the relationship between electrons and positive and negative charges.

29. When is the best time to do the experiment?

A. In the morning.
B. At noon.
C. In the afternoon.
D. In the evening.

30. Why should we not do the experiment in the winter?

A. Because the cold weather is very good to do the experiment.
B. Because it needs a lot of sunlight to carry out the experiment.
C. Because the experiment is influenced by the rain or snow which may fall.
D. Because the air is humid during the season which can affect static electricity.

31. What is the purpose of the text?

A. To entertain the readers.
B. To explain how something happens.
C. To describe something in general.
D. To show how to do something orderly.

Stalactites and stalagmites are unique natural appearances. They

occur in limestone caves. The stalactite is above, and hangs
downward like an icicle. Meanwhile, the stalagmite is below and
sticks up. They grow in pairs, the slightly acidic water dissolves
some of the limestone, carrying it downward.
Sometimes the stalactites are missing, as they sometimes break
off and fall. Or human visitors may break them off, and take them
away. Often, the stalactite and stalagmite will connect, and become
a column.
The flow of water, slightly acidic from acid rain or from
passing through something acidic, is what digs out the caves. It
essentially widens cracks in the rock. And the ceiling may also
collapse, making a mound of limestone on the floor, and a concave
dome above.

How is the light used in photosynthesis? The light used in

photosynthesis is absorbed by a green pigment called chlorophyll. Each food-
making cell in a plant leaf contains chlorophyll in small bodies called
chloroplasts. In chloroplast, light energy causes water drawn from the soil to
split into hydrogen and oxygen.
What are the steps of photosynthesis process? Let me tell you the
process of photosynthesis, in a series of complicated steps. The hydrogen
combining with carbon dioxide from the air, forms a simple sugar. Oxygen
from the water molecules is given off in the process. From sugar together with
nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus from the soil-green plants can make starch,
fat, protein, vitamins and other complex compounds which are essential for
life. Photosynthesis provides the chemical energy that is needed to produce
these compounds.
