Also we would like to add some holiday

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentines or
Christmas. For all the artists in the school

this year's yearbook art page. Also for all
you fashionistas we would like to include
your fantastic style in the fashion page. This
year we would also like to include all the
fun/creative trends of 2020/21. We would

Rare Gemstone Found that Looks Like
Cookie Monster

On March 16th, Mike Bowers, from
Calafornia, shared a video on Facebook starring
Edition 8 March 26th 2021
monster. Although Milke Bowers didn’t post the
gemstone the day he acquired it, because he was
sick with Covid-19, people still love the mineral
all the same. Bowers bought the gemstone from
a Brazilian Geologist, Lucas Fassari, who found
the gemstone in Soledad. Soledad is known as a
stone hotspot in Brazil. Mike posted a video of
him showing off the rock and he tells how it
looks like cookie monster. He is very happy that
people like the mineral as much as he does. He
states that he didn’t know that cookie monster
was so well known in the U.S.. Mike Bowers is
a mineral collector and the gemstone made of
quartz was truly an addition to his collection.
Newsela states that this gemstone is truly
unusual because the cookie monster face appears
on both sides of the mineral which is very
uncommon. Bowers says that for now he will
probably keep the stone, but maybe someday it
might end up in a museum or the hands of
another mineral collector.

 Pet Food Recalled

On December 20,2020 there was an
announcement that wowed many pet owners.
Midwestern Pet foods inc. announced a recall of
the sportmix pet food products. At least 28 dogs
died and 8 were ill. The Department of
Agriculture in Missouri tested the food products
and came to the conclusion that it contained very
high levels of aflatoxins. They are produced by
the mold Aspergillus flavus and if your pet
consumes too much of it they may get very ill or
in this case die. On January eleventh, the
Midwestern Pet Foods inc. expanded the recall
to more than 70 died and about 80 got ill. Not all
of them have been confirmed as the aflatoxins
levels and these numbers are approximate. But 6
sport mix products were recalled. The Fda and
the Missouri Department of Agriculture are
working together to see if any other products
were involved in the recalling. These were so far

Big Ten Coach of the Year

University of Michigan basketball
coach Juwan Howard was named the 2021
Big Ten Coach of the Year in just his second
season being head coach for the Wolverines.
Howard was the obvious choice for the
award after leading Michigan to its first Big
Ten title in seven seasons. His team went
19-3 this year while playing in one of the
toughest versions of the Big Ten in recent
memory.
Howard is the consensus Big Ten
Coach of the Year as voted on by coaches
and media, becoming the first U-M coach to
earn the award since John Beilein during the
2013-14 season. He is the fourth coach in
program history to receive the award.
Howard also helped Michigan
navigate through a 23-day layoff that was
constructed by the state health department.
Despite having no COVID-19 cases, the
basketball team was shut down for two
weeks without any team practices or
workouts. But Howard was prepared for the
challenge, and Michigan returned to the
court with ranked wins over Wisconsin and
Ohio State.

Gathering Without Masks

Fully vaccinated Americans can gather
with other fully vaccinated people indoors
without wearing a mask or social distancing,
according to the long-awaited guidance from
federal health officials. The recommendations
also say that vaccinated people can come
together in the same way with people considered
at a low-risk for severe disease. This allows
vaccinated grandparents to visit their healthy
children and grandchildren.
The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention announced this guidance on
Monday, March 8th. The guidance is
designed to address growing requests, as
more adults have been getting vaccinated
and wondering if it gives them greater
freedom to visit family members, travel, or
do other activities they were allowed to
before the COVID-19 pandemic.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle
Walensky announced that this is a step
towards restoring normalcy in how people
come together. She explained that more
activities will be ok’d for vaccinated
individuals once COVID cases and death
rates lower. The CDC is continuing to
recommend that fully vaccinated people still
wear well-fitted masks, avoid large
gatherings, and physically distance
themselves from others when out in the open
public.
The CDC also advised vaccinated
people still go to get tested if they develop
symptoms that could be related to
COVID-19. Officials say a person is
considered fully vaccinated two weeks after
receiving the last required dose of vaccine.
About 31 million Americans have been fully
vaccinated with a federally authorized
COVID-19 vaccine so far.

Birthday Cakes for Animals

We all know that animals have
birthdays, but how do they celebrate? In
some zoos the zookeepers make special
cakes for the animals. In 2019 Nenette
turned 50 which is the oldest Bornean
orangutan at their zoo. Nanette lives in a zoo
in Paris, France. For her birthday her
keepers made her a strawberry cake with
exotic fruits on top.
These cakes have the nutrition that
animals need and treats on top for them to enjoy.
This is also a good way for the animal's behavior
to improve. Lisa Riley, an animal scientist, says
that keeping an animal in a zoo is bad news for
most animals. A cake with treats and proper
nutrition is a good way to boost an animals
well-being. Cakes with new things also help
challenge animals to try new foods with new
textures and tastes. A worker at Taipei Zoo in
Taiwan says, “They are willing to spend time
solving the problem they face, just like they do
in the wild,”
Overall, this is a good idea for zoos.
Zoos are showing they care about their animals
and showing animal rights activists that not all
zoos are bad. If more zoos do this it will show
that people are good to animals.

 President Biden sued by 12 states due to the
Climate Executive Order

12 republican states attorney generals
have sued President Joe Biden over his Climate
Executive order. These states include Missouri,
Arkansas, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Montana,
Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina,
Tennessee, and Utah. It claims that Biden’s
Executive Order 13990, entitled ‘Protecting
Public Health And the Environment and
Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis,’
doesn’t have a right to issue binding numbers of
“social cost” of greenhouse gases used in federal
regulations. The suit claims that the impact of
$9.5 trillion “social cost” of greenhouse gases
will stretch beyond Missouri. The suit states, “It
will be used to inflict untold billions or trillions
of dollars of damage to the U.S. economy for
decades to come.” The suit also reads, “ It will
destroy jobs, stifle energy production, strangle
America’s energy independence, suppress
agriculture, deter innovation, and impoverish
working families. It undermines the sovereignty
of the States and tears at the fabric of liberty.”

Virtual Spelling Bee

This year the Scripps National
Spelling Bee will be held virtually. Only 12
finalists will actually meet in person at Walt
Disney World In Orlando, Florida. Last year
was the first year ever since WW2 that the
national spelling bee has been canceled.
Normally the national spelling bee takes
place over a week called the Bee week. The
contest usually takes place in May but this
year it will be held mid and end June. This
year the spelling bee will be held online with
only 200 total contestants which is 64
percent smaller than 2019s spelling bee
which had 562 participants total. Scripps
will have to use more challenging words in
the first rounds because the number of
contestants for finals and semifinals needs to

Youngest "Battle Bots" Team Captain

Last fall, Tyler Nguyen entered the
"BattleBots" area together along with his
206-pound robotic, Perfect Phoenix.
"BattleBots" is a TV display that functions
battles among remote-managed robots. "I'd
been dreaming approximately going to
'BattleBots' considering I turned into 5,
however my goals usually ended earlier than
I needed to fight," says Tyler. He is eleven
and lives in Herndon, Virginia. "I waited for

Name Games

In the city of Taiwan, China
residents have been changing their names to
salmon to receive free sushi. A big sushi
chain restaurant was giving free sushi to
anyone with the word salmon in his name. A
government official has begged the citizens
to stop registering their name change as this
creates a lot of unnecessary paperwork just
so people can order free food. There were
dozens of tables given free food and nearly
1,000 more people were given discounts as
much as 50% off.
In taiwan you are only allowed to
change your name three times. So many
residents figure if they change their name to
something with the word salmon and then
after they get all the food they want they
will change their name back. In most cases
this worked but a man changed his name and
went to change his name back but his
mother never told him that she had changed
his name twice when he was a child.
A few college students said that they
have gotten $235 worth of free sushi. And
another group had gotten $460 worth. The
government had figured out that mainly
younger people had been changing their
name. The college students said that it was
worth the name change since it was harder
to earn money at their age. And in Taiwan it
is less than 3 dollars to change their name.
So they figured it would be cheap to pay
about 6 dollars to change their name twice
but yet get $235 of sushi.

Why is Albus Dumbledore the worst
character?

1. He leaves baby Harry on a doorstep.
I mean didn’t Voldemort just attack
the kid. Listen, any Death Eater
could have walked up and picked up
him. You couldn’t walk him in the
front door and put a protection spell
 on the house. You're supposed to be
one of the world’s greatest wizards!
2. In the Sorcerer's Stone, Dumbledore
says, “ The Forbidden Forest is
strictly forbidden to first year
students,” but after Harry, Ron,
Hermione, and Draco get detention
he allows the students to enter the
forbidden forest.
3. Dumbledore knew Sirius was
struggling in house arrest. First off,
you taught the kid and aren’t you
working with him in the Order of the
Phoenix. Dumbledore should have
given him something to do, but you
tell him to stay in Number 12
Grimmauld place, so when the Battle
of Department of Ministries.
Obviously, Black jumps at the idea
to participate, and guess what, Black
is now dead.
4. Hagrid’s defense. When Hagrid was
still attending school, he was
expelled for ‘opening;’ the Chamber
of Secrets, but Dumbledore knew
that Hagrid was innocent. He knew
that Tom Marvolo Riddle was the
true Heir of Slytherin. Did he stand
up for him? No, did Hagrid ever get
to graduate, also no. He should have
stood up for Hagrid and allowed the
kid to come back and get a full
education.
5. Snape’s still a professor. Snape is
known for bullying students like
Neville Longbottom, Snape tried to
kill Longbottom’s pet. Snape later
would become Neville’s biggest fear
and boggart.
6. He didn’t stop the Basilisk.
Dumbledore really allowed Malfoy
to force him away from being Head
Master. He didn’t stop the basilisk
from petrifying students.
7. He hired Umbridge. I mean
Umbridge of all people really!

with Cornelius Fudge. Fudge wants
to shut you down. He puts fake

You should have fired her. She

8. Why is Filch still there? Filch wants
to beat kids into submission. While
Umbridge was there he followed and
practically worshipped the ground
she walked on. When Umbridge was
headmistress, she allowed an overly
eager Filch to beat kids who act up.
Filch started accusing Harry when
Mrs. Norris was petrified right in
front of Albus.
9. Embarrassing the Slytherins..
Dumbledore decides to pull a prank
on the Slytherins making them think
they won, but then giving Gryffindor
the correct amount to win. Harry
Potter may be the ‘The chosen one’
or ‘The boy who lived’ but the
favoritism towards Gryffindor house
is unfair and uncalled for.
10. Dementors on Hogwarts grounds. It
was the Ministry’s idea for the
dementors and Dumbledore didn’t
know Harry would be attacked but
he should make sure that the
dementors stayed where they were
supposed to.
11. He didn’t investigate Harry’s name
being put in the Goblet of Fire. In
Harry’s fourth year his name was
 placed into the Goblet of Fire and
instead of investigating how his
name was placed in the Goblet, you
tell the 14 year old to compete
against a bunch of 17 and 18 year
olds.
12. He couldn’t tell that Mad-eye was
not the real Moody. Dumbledore you
grew up around him. If you would
have checked the times he drank out
of the flask, he drank every hour due
to the Polyjuice wears off after about
an hour and he drinks every hour.
When Moody was in the courtyard
with Malfoy he forgot to use his cane
to walk. Also the tongue twitch that
Barty Crouch Jr. is known for is seen
being done in the background.
13. Bullying… Dumbledore was
Headmaster for over 33 years and
even when Moaning Myrtle was in
school. Myrtle’s bullying caused her
to hide in the bathroom and cry all
day until the Basilisk killed her. In
Snape’s school era, he was severely
bullied by James Potter, Sirius Black,
Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew.
They stripped him to his underwear
and they hung him by his feet.

continues to call the Weasleys

Play Helps Dogs be our Best Friends

friend, first off they need to match with

traveling habits. But they do not need too
much attention. And in this particular
situation, if you have a playful dog, it just
creates a problem for you. For some
functions, like hunting or herding, you need

playful dog, it's easy to train. One way to

Retailers and Restaurants that Went out of
Business

According to CNN business, 30
restaurants and retailers filed for bankruptcy
in 2020. Papyrus, The mall staples best
known for selling stationary went out of
business,resulting in closing more than 250
stores in the US. Krystal, in its bankruptcy
filing the fast food chain blamed several
contributing factors. Modell's Sporting
goods, The bankruptcy resulted in
permanent closure.True religion, they
emerged from bankruptcy in October and it
managed to slashed its debt but closed
dozens of locations. J,Crew group, the
retailer became the first national US retailer
to file for bankruptcy protection. Neiman
Marcus,They emerged from bankruptcy in
September with billions of dollars less in
debt.JCpenney, The pandemic was the last
straw to the 119 year old company
struggling to overcome a decade of bad
decisions.Tuesday Morning, another home
goods retailer filed for bankruptcy in the
spring saying that the store caused a
insurmountable financial hurdle. GNC
closed about 1,200 stores as part of its
bankruptcy. Brooks Brothers,the men's
retailer, which has dressed 40 US presidents
and unofficially became the outfitter of Wall
Street Bankers filled for bankruptcy. Sur La
Table, the 50 year old store filed for
bankruptcy, resulting in the closure of
roughly half of its 120 US stores. Muji
USA,the US arm of the Japanese retailer,
entered bankruptcy and closed a “small
number” of its locations. Lord and
Taylor,the store filed for bankruptcy just a
year after it was bought for 75 million
dollars.Century 21st, the department shutted
its 13 locations ending a 60 year old run, the
company blamed the lack of payment.

How Different Animals Sleep

Ever wonder how animals sleep differently from
us? Well this is how all types of animals sleep.
Koalas sleep in little balls on branches in trees.
Koalas sleep for about 18-20 hours a day. Then,
when they wake up, they eat leaves for more
energy, but then they go back to sleep.
Lions sleep for about 13 to 14 hours a day.
When they wake up, they are ready to go out and
hunt for food to eat. They mainly feel safe
sleeping up high on bigger rocks but they also
feel a bit safe if they're lying on the ground. The
animals they hunt can be zebras, antelope,
wildebeests, and sometimes larger injured
animals such as a carrion.
Giraffes sleep for about 3 to 4 hours a day. They
use their own body as a pillow because it is way
more comfortable then using the ground as a
pillow. They can’t afford to sleep much more
than that because it takes almost a whole minute
to stand up and in those times, a lion or other
large beast could be trying to hunt for a tasty
snack.
Horses get about 3 to 4 hours of sleep as well.
They sleep half standing up just in case they
need to run away from all the predators around
them. Once in a while, they do need to stop and
take a 20 minute nap to restore their energy. If a
horse is in a group, the rest of the horses take a
short nap while one of them stays awake to keep
watch for danger.
Gorillas take about 12 hours out of their day to
sleep. Most animals like either making a cozy
nest or sleeping up high. Some even sleep under
the ground. Gorillas on the other hand like
sleeping up high AND being in nests. When they
sleep, almost every time they make a new nest to
sleep in on the ground or in a tree.
Birds get up to 10 hours of sleep a day. Do full
grown birds sleep in nests? No. The nests are
only for when they are raising babies. Full
grown birds usually find a nice branch on a tree
and sleep there. They tuck their heads
underneath of their wings and it locks its claws
into the branch so it doesn’t fall off whilst
sleeping.
Fish get about 8 hours of sleep per day. When
they sleep, it always looks like they are awake
because they sleep with their eyes open. Parrot
fish make themselves a ‘slimy sleeping bag’ at
night. They use their mucus to make it. Their
‘sleeping bag’ protects them from little pests and
creatures who nibble on fish.

Sea Slugs Can Grow New Bodies After
Decapitation

Did you know that sea slugs can actually
grow bodies after being decapitated? They
can even regrow new hearts! Sayaka Mitoh,
a Biology Researcher, has recently been
learning about Japanese sea slugs, and she
witnessed something amazing. Whilst in her
lab, she saw a sea slug decapitate itself, but
the head continued moving and living as if
nothing happened. This happened to a few
more sea slugs as well. This inspired more
research, aquatic ecology professor Yoichi
Yusa cut the heads off of sixteen sea slugs.
Six of those sixteen started regenerating, but
only three succeeded regeneration and lived.
This is probably caused by it’s
photosynthesis. Sea slugs can
photosynthesize their food from sunlight or
oxygen, similar to how a plant acts. The
head of the sea slug sort of resembles a plant
when the body regrows. Learning about this
can also help us research the human tissue
and it’s own regeneration.

Pros and Cons of Owning an Indoor Cat.

Some people in the world love to keep their
furrocious friends indoors with them, others
prefer to keep them outside. Not that they
love them any less, just for safety. Here are
some pros and cons about owning indoor
cats!
Pro:No hunting whatsoever, so this is good
for those people who hate their cats hunting.
Con: Your furrocious friends will probably
be bored out of their mind if you keep them
inside all of the time
Pro: Reduce risk of being stolen: If you keep
your cats outdoor, there is a chance of
somebody stealing your furry friends.
Con: exercise is needed for your cats, and if
you choose to keep them inside, they do
have a place to walk/run around, but not an
open area for free roam.
Pro:Reduce risk: if you choose to keep your
cats indoors, it will reduce the risk of them
getting hit by traffic.
Con: Increase stress: When cats are
experiencing stress, they like to slip away
from other animals or people that might be
in the house, if you keep them inside, there
is no where to go, and they will get more
stressed.

Homeless Helper

After realising how many homeless people there
are, Peyton, an 8 year old girl from Wisconsin
decided to start a charity raising money for the
homeless people. It was inspired by her great
uncle who knew what the struggle is like
because he suffered being homeless for a lot of
years. Peyton figured out finally that there needs
to be a change in today's society.
