Dear Mrs. Crowther,

The two careers I am interested in are information systems analyst and software developer. I was
always looking into engineering as my future major, so during my freshman year, I took an
engineering class. It was pretty difficult and intimidating for me because of the complexity of
different skills and aspects. I then took coding classes when I entered my sophomore year.
Despite the challenges and difficulties, I faced within these classes, I became interested in them
due to how programming does not require too many skills and how a lot of work is on
computers. These classes allowed me to think about entering computer science when I go into
college. The two personality types I received in the assessment are “conventional” and
“investigative”. Conventional people are described as those who would follow procedures and
tasks, including data and detail-working. An investigative trait describes someone who would
work with ideas while using an extensive amount of thinking. The tasks involve searching for
information and finding out problems mentally. These two traits are what a software developer
and a systems analyst possess.

The most challenging part of developing my brand is building up confidence and being
independent for myself. These traits are what I want both me and the people around me to see me
as. This goal is challenging because as I will enter a career, I need to be willing to face
difficulties both in the process. For example, when I will be interviewing to go to a college or a
job, I need to have a lot of self-confidence to do so. Not only will self-confidence be important,
but I need to be independent so I do not have to rely too much on other people.

The first step to reaching my goal is to do a ton of research on different computer science
careers. Not only will I research online, but I will talk to my programming teachers and
counselors about careers. The next step I would do is to prepare for my next year’s programming
class. This includes reviewing what I have learned from last year, understanding how busy
the class will be, and trying to balance it with my other classes and extracurriculars. My last
step in entering either of my two interesting careers is to join clubs that will give me some
experience with these careers. They include coding, math, and STEM-related clubs.

Best regards,

Steven Nguyen
